Chinese Journal of Cerebrovascular Diseases 2006;3(1):15-18
Objective: To investigate the efficacy of sinivastatin and aspirin as well as blood pressure controlling therapy for carotid atherosclerosis in patients with hypertension. Methods: 162 patients with essential hypertension and carotid atherosclerosis were randomized into two groups. 82 cases In the treatment group, were treated with simvastatin and aspirin as well as antihypertensive drugs; while 80 cases in the control group were treated with antihypertensive drugs alone. Intima-media thickness (IMT) of carotid arterial, carotid plaques score, blood pressure and the serum lipids were measured before and once a year after treatment for 3 years. Results: Mean IMT of carotid artery and carotid plaques score were (1.01 ± 0.12) mm and 3.8 ± 2.5 respectively in the treatment group 1 year a fter treatment, showed no difference from that before treatment. But they were (0.80 ± 0.16) mm, 2.6 ± 1.6 and (0.80 ± 0.20) mm, 2.5 ± 1.2 after 2 and 3 years respectively, which were reduced significantly compared with that of before treatment. The IMT and internal diameter ratio was also reduced significantly after treatment. Overall incidence of cardio-and cerebro-vascular events in the treatment group were 10.90% and 4.87% during the 3 years follow-up period, which were significantly lowered compared to the control group. Conclusion: Long-term simvastatin and aspirin therapy could effectively delay and reverse the progression of carotid arteriosclerosis in patients with hypertension and prevent cardio-and cerebro-vascular events when combined with antihypertensive drugs.

Chinese Journal of Rehabilitation Theory and Practice 2006;12(2):150-151
ObjectiveTo investigate the effect of rehabilitation time on the motor function and activities of daily living (ADL) of patients with intracerebral hemorrhage.Methods76 patients were randomly divided into the early rehabilitation group (40 cases) and late rehabilitation group (36 cases). The patients of two groups were treated with Bobaths method. The starting times of rehabilitation were 48 h~7 d (early rehabilitation group) and 3~4 weeks (late rehabilitation group) after onset. The therapeutic effect was assessed with Fugl-Meyer Motor Assessment Scale (FMA), modified Barthel index (MBI) and neurological deficit evaluation (ND).ResultsThe scores of the FMA, MBI and ND were not different between two groups before treatment. After one month treatment, the scores of patients in two groups improved significantly, but the early rehabilitation group had a greater improvement compared with the late rehabilitation group. Conclusion Early rehabilitation and late rehabilitation can also facilitate the motor function and ADL of patients with intracerebral hemorrhage recovery, and the therapeutic effect of early rehabilitation is better than late rehabilitation significantly.

Puerariae Lobatae Radix, also known as Gegen, is a root derived from Pueraria lobata. Based on field investigation and the developmental anatomy of root tuber, we have elucidated the relationship between the growth of root tuber and the anomalous structure. The results of analysis showed that the root system of P. lobata was developed from seed and adventitious root and there existed root tuber, adventitious root and conductive root according to morphology and function. The root tuber was developed from adventitious root, its secondary structure conformed to the secondary structure of dicotyledon's root. With the development of root, the secondary phloem of root tuber appeared abnormal vascular tissue, which was distributed like ring in the outside of secondary vascular tissue. The root tuber might have 4-6 concentric circular permutation abnormal vascular tissuelobate, and was formed by the internal development of abnormal vascular tissue. The xylem and phloem of abnormal vascular tissue were the main body of the root tuber. The results reveal the abnormal anatomical structure development of P. lobata, also provides the theoretical basis for reasonable harvest medicinal parts and promoting sustainable utilization of resources of P. lobata.

Fuzi is a medicine used for rescuing from collapse by restoring yang as well as a famous toxic traditional Chinese medicine. In order to ensure the efficacy and safe medication, Fuzi has mostly been applied after being processed. There have been different Fuzi processing methods recorded by doctors of previous generations. Besides, there have also been differences in Fuzi processing methods recorded in modern pharmacopeia and ancient medical books. In this study, the authors traced back to medical books between the Han Dynasty and the period of Republic of China, and summarized Fuzi processing methods collected in ancient and modern literatures. According to the results, Fuzi processing methods and using methods have changed along with the evolution of dynasties, with differences in ancient and modern processing methods. Before the Tang Dynasty, Fuzi had been mostly processed and soaked. From Tang to Ming Dynasties, Fuzi had been mostly processed, soaked and stir-fried. During the Qing Dynasty, Fuzi had been mostly soaked and boiled. In the modem times, Fuzi is mostly processed by being boiled and soaked. Before the Tang Dynasty, a whole piece of Fuzi herbs or their fragments had been applied in medicines; Whereas their fragments are primarily used in the modern times. Because different processing methods have great impacts on the toxicity of Fuzi, it is suggested to study Fuzi processing methods.

Chinese Journal of Digestive Endoscopy 2014;(9):508-512
Objective To investigate the diagnostic value of endoscopic ultrasonography( EUS)for gastrointestinal submucosal tumors. Methods EUS was performed on 378 patients with submucosal tumor detected by endoscopy. The shape, number, origin, and property were recorded under endoscopic ultrasonogra-phy. The diagnostic consistent rate was calculated with pathology as the golden standard. Results Among 378 patients, there were 131 cases of gastrointestinal leiomyoma, mostly low echo( n=87 ),homogeneous echo (n=119),and originated from muscular layer of mucosa(n=92). There were 111 cases of gastrointestinal stromal tumor, mainly low echo(n=51),medium low echo(n=51),homogeneous echo(n=78),originated from muscularis propria(n=85). There were also 50 cases of carcinoid tumor, mainly low echo(n=36), originated from submucosa(n=27). Forty-five cases of lipoma were detected, also originated from submuco-sa,mainly hyperecho(n=40),homogeneous echo(n=41). Heterotopic pancreas(n=19),schwannoma (n=4),and granular cell tumor(n=4)were relatively rare. Overall diagnostic consistent rate of EUS in submucosal tumor was 78. 6%( 297/378 ),diagnostic consistent rate of the shape of the tumor was 91. 8%(347/378),diagnostic consistent rate of the number was 95. 5%(361/378),and the consistent rate of origin was 96. 8%(366/378). Conclusion All kinds of submucosal tumor have certain features under endoscopic ultrasonography. Endoscopic ultrasonography can display echo, size, origin of gastrointestinal submucosal tumors,as well as their relations with the wall layer in gastrointestinal tract. It plays an important role in the diagnosis, differential diagnosis and treatment options, but there are still some limitations.

Chinese Journal of Experimental Ophthalmology 2012;(10):932-935
Background Nd: YAG laser posterior capsulotomy is an important way for after cataract.Usually the patient will use glucocorticoid eye drops to treat the anterior chamber inflammation after operation, but there is potential risk of elevating intraocular pressure (IOP).Objective This study was to compare the clinical effectiveness and safety of loteprednol etabonate ophthalmic suspension, tobramycin+ dexamethasone eye drops and fluorometholone eye drops following Nd: YAG laser posterior capsulotomy. Methods A randomized-controlled clinical trail was performed. One hundrcd and seventy-onc cycs of 127 paticnts who received Nd: YAG laser posterior capsulotomy for after cataract were randomly divided into four groups.Loteprednol etabonate ophthalmic suspension, fluorometholone eye drops, tobramycin+dexamethasone eye drops and systane eye drops was topically administered respectively in the four groups after laser posterior capsulotomy and 6 times per day for 5 days.IOP was measured with Goldmann tomometer 1 hour before operation and 1 hour,1 day,3 days and 7 days after operation. The ocular anterior segment inflammatory response was examined under the slit lamp and scored based on the Peizeng criteria.Written informed consent was obtained from each patient before any relevant medical procedure. Results The IOP was (18.2 ±4.7),(20.1 ±5.7),(18.7±5.5),(19.0 ±4.1),(19.5 ±3.5) mmHg in various time points in the loteprednol etabonate group; (18.7 ±5.3),(20.9±5.7),(21.3±4.5),(21.0±4.9),(22.5±6.5) mmHg in the fluorometholone eye drops group ; (17.9± 6.3),(20.3 ± 6.1),(23.0 ± 3.7),(24.7 ± 4.9),(24.5 ± 6.5) mmHg in the tobramycin +dexamethasone group and(18.4±6.3),(20.7±3.7),(22.7±6.5),(19.6±4.8),(18.5±3.5) mmHg in the systane group, showing a significant difference among the 4 groups (Fgroup =3.876,P =0.023).With the time lapse, the IOP was gradually reduced in the loteprednol etabonate group and systane group, but that in the fluorometholone group and tobramycin+dexamethasone group was elevated, showing a significant difference among them (Ftime =3.801,P =0.031).No any ocular and systemic adverse effect was found in various groups. The percentage of grade 1 and 2 of aqueous inflammatory cells was lower in the loteprednol etabonate group and tobramycin+dexamethasone group than the fluorometholone group and fluorometholone group and systane group(H =8.276,P =0.012).The percentage of Ⅰgrade of aqueous flare was 8% in the loteprednol etabonate group,22% in the fluorometholone group,18% in the tobramycin+dexamethasone group and 30% in the systane group, with a significant difference among them (H=9.305,P=0.000).Conclusions The use of corticosteroid eye drops can relieve the inflammatory response of ocular anterior chamber after Nd: YAG laser posterior capsulotomy.Loteprednol etabonate ophthalmic suspension has a better anti-inflammatory effect and less influence on IOP.
