AIM:To compare the efficacy of three types of eye care (artificial tear, moist chamber and polyethylene covers) for preventing exposure keratopathy in intensive care patients.METHODS: Intensive Care Unit (ICU) patients were randomly divided to three treatment groups, including artificial tear group(29 cases), moist chamber group (27 cases) and polyethylene covers group (28 cases). Patients in artificial tear group received two drops of carboxymethylcellulose dropped to each eye every 2 hours. The moist chamber and polyethylene covers groups were changed every 12 hours or as needed if they became unclean or torn. Corneal fluorescein stain was performed daily.RESULTS:No one in the polyethylene covers group and one case(4%) in the moist chamber group had exposure keratopathy compared to 8 cases (28%) in the artificial tear group. There were statistical significance differences between both artificial tear group and moist chamber group (P=0.02), artificial tear group and polyethylene covers group (P=0.003). Everyday time of eye care in the artificial tear group, the moist chamber group and the polyethylene covers group was respectively 26.69±2.39, 35.33±2.63 and 7.48±0.87 minutes. Everyday time of eye care in the polyethylene covers group was statistically more time-saving than that in the artificial tear group (P<0.01) and the moist chamber group (P<0.01). CONCLUSION: Polyethylene covers are more effective and time-saving in reducing the incidence of corneal damage in intensive care patients.

After the factors that influence the selection of words were analyzed according to the problems in selec-tion of words for co-word analysis, a hypothesis for how to select the word sets with its verification analysis was pro-posed, the method for selecting words was thus decided according to the word frequency-covered literature area and the number of high frequency words. However, its practical use in large data sets needs to be further improved.

OBJECTIVETo explore the effect of internal fixation with screw through femoral epiphyseal plate on growth in- hibition via an experimental study.

METHODSForty New Zealand rabbits were randomly divided into 4 groups and 10 rabbits in each group. Epiphyseal plate was injured by penetrating of screws, and the size of damage area was controlled by changing the number of threads. Group A: blank group; group B: injury area accounted for 4% of the epiphyseal plate; group C: injury area accounted for 6%; group D: injury area accounted for 8%. The internal fixation was removed after 2 weeks, and the results were observed with X-ray film for 4 groups to judge the complications such as early closure of epiphyseal.

RESULTSIn each group, there were no statistical differences in the length of the femoral neck, the diameter of femoral neck, the diameter of the femoral head, and the epiphyseal plate closure time. The growth speed of the length and diameter of the femoral neck, as well as the diameter of femoral head, were quicker on the early phase, and the speed was slowest when the epiphyseal plate was being closed.

CONCLUSIONThe injury area of epiphyseal plate under 8% is safe for its growth. Because no evidences demonstrate the growth inhibition of epiphyseal plate, the screws can be used for rabbit epiphyseal plates.

AlM: To measure ocular biometric values with the degree of axial myopia and determine the relationship between the differences using the Lenstar 900.
METHODS:Totally 413 myopes (826 eyes) were enrolled in this study and were divided into 3 groups: low myopia (myopia <3. 00 diopters, 104 eyes), moderate myopia ( myopia =3. 00-6. 00 diopters, 500 eyes) and high myopia ( myopia > 6. 00 diopters, 222 eyes ). Central corneal thickness ( CCT ) , aqueous depth ( AD ) , lens thickness (LT), axial length (AL) were measured by Lenstar 900. The parameters were tested using analysis of variance and the relations among SE, AL, LT were analyzed.
RESULTS: There were significant difference both in AL (F=206.16, P<0.01) and AD (F=4.764, P<0.05) and no significant difference both in CCT and LT between these myopia groups. With analysis of Person, the Spherical equivalent ( SE) shows a significantly positive correlation with AL (r=0. 662, P<0. 01) and AD (r=0. 095, P<0. 05), no correlation with CCT and LT. AL shows a significantly positive correlation with AD (r=0. 347, P<0. 01) and CCT (r=0.126, P<0.01), negative correlation with LT (r=-0.265, P<0. 01). LT shows a significantly negative correlation with AD (r=-0. 496, P<0. 01).
CONCLUSlON: Along with the diopters increasing in myopia, the axial length and aqueous depth continue to increase. Spherical equivalent ( SE) shows a significantly positive correlation with AD. AL shows positive correlation with SE, AD and CCT and negative correlation with LT. LT shows a significantly negative correlation with AD.

To establish a method for quantitative measurement of phagocytosis, the phagocytic process of apoptotic granulosa cells by monocytes was imitated in vitro. Monocytes and granulosa cells were isolated from Kunming mice and cultured. Granulosa cells were induced to apoptosis by garlic, and then co-cultured with monocytes. At different time points (1 h, 2 h, 3 h, 4 h, 5 h), co-cultured cells were observed by microscope after Wright's staining. The results showed that at the beginning of morphological changes in apoptotic granulosa cells, monocytes captured the apoptotic cells. Meanwhile, the apoptosis of granulosa cells were progressing. Debris was found in phagocytic vacuole. At the point of 3 h after co-culture, the ratio of monocytes which attached to apoptotic granulosa cells to those which engulfed the apoptotic cells was close to one. Namely, half of monocytes were in the state of recognition and half were in the state of engulfment, and this time point was named as 'half phagocytic period'. Regression analysis showed that the equation of linear regression was y = -0.247x +1.644 (y represents Attachment/Engulfment ratio, x represents co-culture time), R(2)=0.912, F=31.095, P=0.011 (<0.05), T= -5.576, P=0.011 (<0.05). In conclusion, the present mode of phagocytosis in vitro can be used as a method to quantitatively assay some effective factors such as medicines which could enhance or restrain phagocytosis.

Objective To discuss the perioperative nursing of the robot-assisted laparoscopic radical surgery for prostate cancer. Methods The pre-operative mental nursing was adopted. Preparations of intestinal tract and detailed guidelines of postoperative function exercises were fully did. The vital signs and the changes of situations in abdomen were closely observed. Good observation and care for drainage tube were did. And a reasonable diet was constituted. Results 14 patients had good recovery after a year with no complications, through a follow-up visit of one year after the operation. Conclusions Systemic nursing for individuals during peri-operation plays an important role in the speedy recovery of robotic-assisted laparoscopic surgery for patients with prostate cancer.

Objective To explore the characteristics of brain function in rats with Stagnation of Liver-qi Syndrome. Methods Model ofStagnation of Liver-qi was made with chronic stress combined with isolated raising in 10 normal Wistar rats. They were scanned with positronemission tomography (PET) before and after modeling. Data analysis was carried out using SPM (statistical parametric mapping 2) inMATLAB software. Results After modeling, the glucose metabolism decreased (P<0.001) in left frontal lobe, parietal lobe, hypothalamus;bilateral posterior cingulate; right anterior cingulate, while the glucose metabolism increased (P<0.001) in left parahippocampal gyrus, insula,temporal lobe, frontal lobe; right basal ganglia, thalamus. Conclusion The function of some cerebral areas can be changed undergoingStagnation of Liver-qi Syndrome.
