1.Hypoplasia of cochlear nerve foramen:CT findings

Objective To observe the CT findings of hypoplasia of cochlear nerve foramen. Methods CT findings of cochlear nerve foramen were observed in 50 volunteers (100 ears)and in 9 cases with hypoplasia of cochlear nerve foramen.The width of the bony canal for the cochlear nerve were measured in both groups.Results The fissure in the cribriform area were seen in every volunteers.The width of the bony canal for the cochlear nerve was (2.32?0.25)mm in normal group.The stenosis of cochlear nerve foramen were shown in 9 cases (10 ears),the lacking of fissure in the cribriform area were seen in 8 ears, while the fissure were shown in 2 cases.The stenosis of internal auditory canal was shown in 4 cases. Abnormality of vestibule and horizontal semicircular canal was shown in one case.The maximum value of the width of the bony canal for the cochlear nerve was 1.5mm,the minimum value was 0.9 mm.Conclusions The typical CT findings of hypoplasia of cochlear nerve foramen were stenosis of cochlear nerve foramen,the lacking of fissure in the cribriform area and cochlear nerve foramen without helix shape.The hypoplasia of cochlear nerve foramen may be a subtype of cochlear dysplasia.
2.Correlation of 4-month infant feeding modes with their growth and iron status in Beijing.

BACKGROUNDGrowth and development of infants has been an important topic in pediatrics for a long time. Infants must be provided with food containing all necessary nutrients. Breast milk is believed to be the most desirable natural and cheapest food for well-balanced nutrition. But with the progress in the development of substitute food in developed countries, it is thought that formula milk can meet the requirement for infant growth. During early infancy, growth, as the most sensitive index of health, is therefore a critical component in evaluating the adequacy of breast-feeding, mixed-feeding and formula feeding. Iron status is another important index of infant health. Iron deficiency anemia remains the most prevalent nutritional deficiency index in infants worldwide. This study is to compare infants in Beijing at 4 months who are on three different feeding modes (breast feeding, mixed feeding and formula feeding) in physical changes and iron status. The results may provide new mothers with support in feeding mode selection, which will also be helpful to the China Nutrition Association in feeding mode education.
METHODSThis is a cohort study. One thousand and one normal Beijing infants were followed regularly for 12 months. Body weight and horizontal length were measured. Hemoglobin, red blood cell counts, mean corpuscular volume, mean corpuscular hemoglobin and serum iron were analyzed at 4 months.
RESULTSThe breast feeding percentage in the first 4 months was 47.9%. The feeding mode was not significantly related to maternal delivery age, education, labor pathway nor infant sex (P>0.05). Infant boys and girls exclusively breast-fed from 0 to 4 months had the highest weight at 0-6 months. The anemia rate of breast-fed infant boys at 4 months was the highest.
CONCLUSIONSBreast feeding should be given more emphasis. It is compulsory for new mothers to breast-feed their infants if possible. Social environment should also guarantee the requirement for breast feeding. Furthermore the normal values of hemoglobin, mean corpuscular volume and serum iron, which were originally used to judge children's iron deficiency anemia, might not be optimal for evaluating infants. There might be a need to develop sex-specific cutoff levels of hemoglobin, mean corpuscular volume and serum iron for infants.

3.The effect of mini-implant lengths on stress distributions in peri-implant surface.

OBJECTIVETo observe the effect of mini-implant lengths on stress distribution in peri-implant surface.
METHODSThe 3D finite element analysis mandible and mini-implant models with diameter of 1.6 mm, lengths of 6, 8, 10 and 12 mm were established. The mini-implants were inserted into designed site of mandibular vertically, respectively. A force of 1.96 N were applied mesioly and 45 degrees tilted mesio-vertically in models. The stress distribution under every condition was recorded and analyzed.
RESULTSWhen load was applied mesially, the maximum stress varied from 3.500 to 3.765 MPa, the maximum displacement varied from 1.266 to 1.288 microm. When load was applied 45 degrees tilted mesio-vertically, the maximum stress varied from 4.075 to 4.510 MPa, the maximum displacement varied from 1.668 to 1.694 microm. All of the maximum stress and displacement of loading mesially were lower than loading mesio-vertically.
CONCLUSIONThe change of the mini-implant length within 6-12 mm don't show much influence on the stress distribution. The loading type is an important factor influencing stress and displacement of peri-implant bone.

4.Bufalin inhibits PDGF-BB-induced mesangial cell proliferation via mediating gap junctional intercellular communication.

OBJECTIVETo study the role and possible mechanisms of gap junctional intercellular communication (GJIC) involved in mesangial cell (MC) proliferation which could be inhibited by bufalin.
METHODSRat mesangial cells were cultured in vitro. The effect of bufalin on platelet-derived growth factor-BB (PDGF-BB)-induced MC proliferation was evaluated by MTT assay. The function of GJIC was detected by Lucifer Yellow scrape loading and dye transfer (SLDT). mRNA levels of Cx43, Cx45 and Cx40 were measured by RT-PCR. Intracellular calcium concentrations ([Ca(2+)]i) were examined in laser scanning confocal microscopy after loading by Fura-3/AM.
RESULTSMTT indicated that bufalin could inhibited PDGF-BB-induced MC proliferation (P<0.01). Compared with the hormal control group, PDGF-BB inhibited GJIC function, increased the expression of Cx45 and Cx40 (P<0.01) without altering the Cx43 (P>0.05) in gene level and also increased [Ca(2+)]i. However, bufalin treatment enhanced GJIC function, decreased Cx45 mRNA and Cx40 mRNA expression (P<0.01), and reduced [Ca(2+)]i (P<0.01).
CONCLUSIONSBufalin inhibits PDGF-BB-induced MC proliferation, and its possible mechanisms may be related to regulation of Cx45 and Cx40 expression in the gene level, reduction of [Ca(2+)]i and enhancement of GJIC function.

5.Investigation on SARS in Beijing volunteer blood donors

Objective To investigate the epidemic of severe acute respiratory symdrome(SARS) in Beijing blood donors and make guidance for assuring blood safety during SARS epidemic.Methods Using SARSCoV Ab ELISA Kits, specimens from 2357 donors from Beijing during SARS epidemic phase,1079 preserved samples from Beijing donors collected well before the SARS epidemic,1183 donors from Shandong and Hunan provinces where no SARS had been reported were screed for IgG,IgM,and total antibodies against SARS coronavirus.Donors with reactive samples were followed up,RT PCR were performed to detect the SARS CoV RNA.Results There was no significant difference between the 3 groups of specimens and there was no SARS epidemic or subclinical SARS infections among Beijing blood donors.Conclusion Instead of blood SARS CoV Ab screening, we should focus on the donors inquiry,physical examination and education to prevent SARS transmission by transfusion.
6.Expression of IL-17 and Syndecan-1 in Nasal Polyps and Their Correlation with Nasal Polyps

Nasal polyp (NP) is a common chronic inflammatory disease of the nasal cavity and sinuses.Although some authors have suggested that NP is related to inflammatory factors such as interleukin (IL)-1β,IL-5,IL-8,granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF),tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α,and IL-17,the mechanisms underlying the pathogenesis and progression of NP remain obscure.This study investigated the expression and distribution of IL-17 and syndecan-1 in NP,and explored the roles of these two molecules in the pathogenesis of eosinophilic chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps (Eos CRSwNP) and non-Eos CRSwNP.Real-time PCR and immunohistochemistry were used to detect the expression of IL-17 and syndecan-1 in samples [NP,unciform process (UP) from patients with CRS,and middle turbinate (MT) from healthy controls undergoing pituitary tumor surgery].The results showed that the expression levels of IL-17 and syndecan-1 were upregulated in both NP and UP tissues,but both factors were higher in NP tissues than in UP tissues.There was no significant difference in IL-17 levels between the Eos CRSwNP and non-Eos CRSwNP samples,and syndecan-1 levels were increased in the non-Eos CRSwNP tissues as compared with those in Eos CRSwNP tissues.In all of the groups,there was a close correlation between the expression of IL-17 and syndecan-1 in nasal mucosa epithelial cells,glandular epithelial cells,and inflammatory cells,suggesting that IL-17 and syndecan-1 may play a role,and interact with each other,in the pathogenesis ofnon-Eos CRSwNP.
7.Research on the transformation of medical science and technology achievements in the World-class universities in China based on patent perspective

Objective:To understand the current status and main models of transformation of medical patent in the World-class universities in China, carry out research on the transformation of scientific and technological achievements based on the perspective of patents.Methods:The registration data of assigned medical patent of 42 universities were collected to analyze the overall status of transformation, the cycle and the transfer flow of patent transfer. The main fields and themes involved in the transfer of patented technology are shown by cluster analysis methods. The prominent transfer mode of medical patents in the universities was discovered by analyzing the transferees of assigned patents.Results:Among 42 universities, medical patents transferred within ten years account for approximately 6% of authorized patents, and the average transfer cycle is 28 months, and transferees are business-oriented. The transferred patents cover more topics including hydantoin derivative, fucoidan sulfate, human papilloma virus, brain-computer interface and minimally invasive surgery. 88% of patents are based on the traditional direct patent technology transfer model. In addition, it also includes transfer modes such as transfer through the asset operating company, the spin-offs, the third-party intermediary, the institute, and the technology transfer center.Conclusions:The overall task of building a World-class university is heavier and the demonstration effect is more obvious. However, the status quo is that the proportion of transfer patents of the World-class university is still low, the transfer cycle is long, and the mode of transfer of scientific and technological achievements is relatively single and should be more innovative. The World-class universities should improve the quality of their own scientific and technological achievements, improve the results transformation mechanism, and constantly explore the mode of achievement transformation in a more tailored way.
8.Clinical observation on Yi Jin Jing(Sinew-transforming Qigong Exercises)in improving anxiety for asymptomatic patients with COVID-19 infection during quarantine

Objective:To observe the effect of Yi Jin Jing(Sinew-transforming Qigong Exercises)intervention on anxiety in asymptomatic patients with Corona Virus Disease 2019(COVID-19)infection during quarantine.Methods:A total of 160 asymptomatic patients with COVID-19 infection were stratified by gender and divided into an observation group and a control group by the stratified randomization method,with 80 cases in each group.The control group was given basic nursing in the cabin,and the observation group was given additional Yi Jin Jing exercises once a day,20 min each time,and trained continuously until 1 d before leaving the cabin.The Hamilton anxiety scale(HAMA)score was compared between the two groups.Results:A total of 154 cases were included for data analysis in this study,including 74 cases in the observation group and 80 cases in the control group.After intervention,the HAMA scores in both groups increased(P<0.05),while the score in the observation group was lower than that in the control group(P<0.05).In the control group,the HAMA score of females after intervention was higher than that of males.The scores of mental anxiety and somatic anxiety in both groups were higher than those before intervention,while the score of mental anxiety in the observation group was significantly lower than that in the control(P<0.05).However,there was no statistical difference in the somatic score between the two groups(P>0.05).Conclusion:Patients with COVID-19 infection will get anxious during quarantine.Yi Jin Jing exercise can effectively reduce the aggravation of anxiety in asymptomatic patients with COVID-19 infection during concentrated quarantine.
9.Test results analysis on wild measles virus neutralizing antibodies in 70 pairs of mother and infant

[Objective] To investigate the level of wild -measles neutralization antibody of both mother and infant , and its correlation between the paired mother and infant . [ Methods] The wild-mea-sles neutralization antibody in the serum of the women and their infants were detected directly by a neutral -ization test (NT) methods. [ Results] The positivity rates of neutralization antibody in mothers and their infants were 91.52%and 88.57%respectively, geometric mean title of neutralization antiboby (GMT) being 61.32 and 58.17 respectively.And the titer of neutralization antibody was highly correlated ( r=0.899, P<0.01)between mother and infant in pairs.When the GMT of mother was ≥1∶16,the positivity rate of neutralization antibody in their infants might reach 100.00%. [ Conclusion] It is important to increase the maternal measles antibody level in order to prevent infants from measles .
10.Surgical treatments and results of pulmonary atresia with ventricular septal defect.

OBJECTIVETo evaluate the indication and operative program of ventricular septal defect with pulmonary atresia (VSD-PA).
METHODSFrom June 1984 to March 2005, there were 32 patients with VSD-PA, which underwent 33 operations. Among them, 15 were males and 17 were females. The ages ranged from 6 months to 9 years. There were 9 patients with aortopulmonary collateral arteries. The operations included central aorta-pulmonary shunts 3 cases, one stage complete repair 27 cases and one stage unifocalization with VSD open 2 cases.
RESULTSThere were early 5 death including one death after aorta-pulmonary shunt and 4 deaths after one stage complete repair. The causes of death were severe low cardiac output (2 patients), respiratory function failure (1 patient), multiorgan function failure (1 patient) and severe infect (1 patient). Twenty-one patients were followed up from 3 months to 15.5 years. Heart function (NYHA) was class I or II in 19 cases and class III or IV in 2 cases.
CONCLUSIONSThe operative indication and methods mainly depend on the developing of pulmonary arteries and aortopulmonary collateral arteries. Completely surgical repair of patients with VSD-PA can be achieved with acceptable mortality.
