AIM: To observe the application of Suresight handheld auto- refractometer in measuring diopter of infants in Community Health Service Center.
METHODS:Totally 836 cases ( 1 672 eyes ) from June 2013 to December 2013 were examined diopter of infants by Suresight handheld auto-refractometer in Community Health Service Center.
RESULTS: Within 1 672 eyes of 836 infants were examined, 202 eyes were diagnosed ametropia, 38 eyes were suspicious, 240 eyes were transferred to the department of ophthalmology, the referral rate was 14.35%; 172 eyes were diagnosed ametropia, and the diagnosis rate of the referral patients was 71. 67%. Among 172 eyes, 46 eyes were provided with corrected glasses, accounting for 2. 75% of the number of screening, and 126 eyes were given intensive monitoring, accounting for 7.54% of the number of screening.
CONCLUSION: Application of Suresight handheld auto-refractometer in refraction screening for infants in Community Health Service Center is convenient and effective. With two - way referral between community health service center and department of ophthalmology can monitor and intervene vision development of infants much earlier.

Objective To comparatively observe features of choroidal osteoma by multimodal fundus imaging methods.Methods This is a retrospective case study.Sixteen patients (16 eyes) with choroidal osteoma were enrolled in this study.The patients included 6 males (6 eyes) and 10 females (10 eyes),with an average age of (30.5±2.4) years.All patients received examination of best-corrected visual acuity,slit lamp microscope,indirect ophthalmoscopy,fundus color photography,fundus autofluorescence (AF),fundus fluorescein angiography (FFA) and spectral domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT).The tumors were classified as fresh lesion (clear boundary and rosy tumor with smooth surface) and obsolete lesions (pale and flat tumor with obvious patches).The tumor features of color fundus photography,AF,FFA and SD-OCT were comparatively observed.Results There were 5 fresh lesions and 11 obsolete lesions.Color fundus photography showed the tumor color was orange-red or yellow-white with clear boundary and retinal blood vessels on the surface of the tumor.The color of fresh lesion was rosy.In general,choroidal osteoma shown weak AF,however AF of fresh tumor was slightly stronger than the obsolete tumor,and retinal detachment region showed relatively stronger AF.FFA of fresh tumor indicated uniform intense fluorescence with clear boundary at late stage,much stronger than obsolete tumor.SD-OCT showed mesh-like reflected signal in the choroidal layer,but different from the surrounding choroidal vascular structures.Conclusions The tumor color is orange-red or yellow-white in color funds photography,which shown weak AF.FFA showed mottled hyperfluorescence in the early stage and tissue staining at the late stage.SD-OCT showed mesh-like reflected signal in the choroidal layer.

Objective To investigate the effects of three procedures for hysterectomy.Methods The clinical characteristics of 370 cases who respectively received hysterectomy by total transabdominal hysterectomy(TAH,150 cases),transvaginal hysterectomy(TVH,120 cases),or laparoscopically assisted vaginal hysterectomy(LAVH,100 cases)were analyzed and their effects and outcomes and the expenses for medical treatment were compared from 2000 January to 2005 December.Results The average operation time of TAH,TVH and LAVH was(78?28) minutes,(102?35)minutes,(119?28)minutes respectively.The average operation time of TAH was significantly shorter than that of TVH and LAVH groups(P＜0.01).The volume of hemorrhage during operation in TAH group was less than that of other two groups significantly[TAH(53?29)ml,TVH(110?35)ml,LAVH(93?50 )ml](P＜0.01).The average time of bowel function recovery in TAH group[(42?7)hours]was significantly longer than that of TVH[(23?5)hours]or LAVH[(25?4) hours]groups(P＜0.01).The average hospital stay after opera- tion in TAH[(8.9?1.1)days]group was significantly longer than that of TVH[(5.7?2.4)days]or LAVH [(6.3?1.9)days] groups(P＜0.01).The average expenses for medical treatment in LAVH[(7273?938)yuans] group was significantly more than that of TAH[(5594?308)yuans]or TVH[(5450?167)yuans]groups(P＜0.01).But the lesion and the complication after operation of three groups had no difference.Conclusion Different procedures for total hysterectomy have their own advantage and disadvantage.The operation procedure must take ac- count of the economy,echnique of medical treatment and the condition of the hospital.

Objective To investigate the value of detecting BK virus(BKV)in urine of renal al- lograft recipients for the diagnosis and treatment of BKV infection.Methods Using polymerase chain re- action(PCR)method combined with DNA sequencing,61 urine samples from renal allograft recipients,30 u- fine samples from dialytic patients and 30 urine samples from healthy volunteers(controls)were detected. The results were compared among the 3 groups.Results The BKV positive rate in renal allograft recipi- ents was 36.1%,compared with 13.3% in dialytic patients(P＜0.05)and 0.0% in controls(P＜0.05). One renal allograft recipient who was positive for BKV developed ureteral obstruction.The BKV positive rate was 40.9%(9/22)in renal allograft recipients with rejection episode,compared with 33.3%(13/39)in the recipients without rejection episode(P＞0.05);and the BKV positive rate was 36.0%(18/50)in the recip- ients with normal graft function,compared with 36.4%(4/11)in the recipients with abnormal graft function (P＞0.05).Conclusions Renal allograft recipients are the high risk population who may develop BKV viruria.There is no correlation between recipients with or without rejection episode and BKV viruria,and also no correlation between recipients with normal or abnormal graft function and BKV viruria.Detection of BKV in the urine of renal allograft recipients is helpful in differential diagnosis of BKV induced ureteral obstruc- tion,and PCR method for detecting BKV DNA can be used to screen for BK virus-associated nephropathy (BKVAN).

Endostatin(ES), the C-terminal fragment of collagen XVIII, is a potent angiogenesis inhibitor. At present, there are a large number of research papers on ES. It has already been on clinical stage Ⅱ and been widely used in inhibition of neovascularization(NV). However, how to improve the bioactivity of ES is still a matter of ongoing discussion. The objective of this review is to elucidate the relationship between the modified ES and ocular neovascualrization, and to discuss the superiority based on the structure modification. The structure can be changed either by covalent modification or by genetical mutation. It is proposed that the secondary structral ES enhance the anti-angiogenic activity. Studies on modified ES also shed light on our understanding of the molecular action mechanisms of ES. Objective To explore the effective method for in vitro culture of the dendritic cells(DCs) and the specific anti-leukemic cell effect mediated by dendritic cells pulsed with acute myelogenous leukemia antigen. Methods Bone marrow mononucleas cells (BMMNCs) isolated from AML patients were induced to undergo differentiation with 500 ng/ml A23187 and pulsed with AML antigen. After 96 h, DCs and T cells were co-cultured for 5 to 7 days. The cytotoxic activity of cytotoxic T lymphocyte(CTL) to AML were detected with MTT colorimetry. Results BMMNCs isolated from AML patients treated with 100 ng/ml rhGM-CSF in combination with 500 ng/ml A23187 for 96 h exhibited typical morphology of DCs with rapidly increased expression of CD1a and CD83 (P<0.01). Dendritic cells pulsed with acid eluted tumor antigen peptides group displayed the strongest cytotoxic activity of CTL to AML. There was a significant difference between two groups(P<0.01). Conclusion BMMNCs isolated from AML patients can be successfully induced to DCs with rhGM-CSF and A23187 and dendritic cells pulsed with acid eluted tumor antigen peptides group had the strongest cytotoxic activity of CTL to AML.

In order to change the situations such as students’passivity and low enthusiasm in the traditional experimental teaching of Microbiology and improve students’comprehensive qualities,exploration and attempt on experimental teaching reforms including teaching contents,teaching modes,laboratory management and evaluation system of examination were done.Teaching practices showed that the normalized ex- periment syllabus based on the correct orientation of experimental teaching of Microbiology,the actualization of teaching mode of basic skill training-integrated experiment-designed experiment and the management of opening laboratory were effective measures in improving experimental teaching of Microbiology.
