BACKGROUND:The rapidly developed transplantation of peripheral blood stem cells have been successfully used to substitute bone marrow transplantation and become the first choice method for transplantation of hemopoietic stem cells. It is relatively difficult to collect peripheral blood stem cells from young age and low body mass infants.OBJECTIVE:To investigate the safety and adverse effects of peripheral blood stem cell collection from young age and low body mass through the use of blood cell separator.METHODS:Two type 1 diabetes mellitus infants, aged younger than 2 years old and with body mass less than 15 kg,were treated using autologous hemopoietic stem cell transplantation. The two infants were adequately comforted to lesion the fear of collection. At 1 week prior to collection, calcium agent was orally taken to reduce the incidences of low calcium.Within 24 hours prior to collection, oily food was forbidden, and on the day of collection, milk was forbidden,to avoid chylemia, which influences blood collection.Prior to collection,200 mL 25 Gy y-ray radiated red blood cells suspension was injected into the tube, which was routinely placed in the subclavian vein,to avoid hypovolaemic syndrome and the effects on hematocrit.Individualized collection parameters were set,During collection, blood circulation volume was 3,4 times of systemic blood circulation to ensure sufficient total circulation volume.During isolation, the ratio of ACD to whole blood was kept between 1:11 and 1:13 to prevent sodium citrate poisoning.RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:Peripheral blood stem cells were successfully collected during first intention in each infant.During collection, stable vital signs but no adverse effects were observed. After collection, mononuclear cells weighted 14.71×108/kg and 18.82×108/kg respectively, and CD34+ cells were about 34.13×108/kg and 32.38×106/kg,respectively in each infant. Therefore,it is feasible to collect peripheral blood stem cells from infants of young age and low body mass under sufficient psychological preparation.

Based on the software of traditional Chinese medicine inheritance support system (TCMISS), this article aims to analyze the experience and composition rules for cough from the descendant of Meng He Medical School, Xu Di-hua. The cough cases treated by Xu Di-hua were collected, and recorded into TCMISS (V2.0). Data mining methods such as Apriori algorithm and complex system entropy cluster were used to analyze the medication principles of Xu Di-hua for cough from pathogenesis and therapeutie aspects, and dig out the frequency of the herbs in prescription, core medicine and new combinations. The experience of curing cough from Professor Xu Di-hua were well found in the research. He is good at choosing prescriptions accurately, and pays attention to simultaneous use of cold and moisture drugs with combination of tonification and purgation. He is skilled in adding or reducing materia medica flexibly, as well as regulating lung to relieve cough and eliminating phlegm by clearing heat.

Objective To explore the effect of ciliary, neurotrophic factor (CNTF)-coated polyglycolic and polylactic acid (PGLA) nerve conduits treated by pulsed plasma to repair canine tibial nerve defects. Methods A 2.5 cm long tibial nerve defect was made in eighteen cross-bred dogs. The nerve defects were re- constructed by three different methods:group A:pulsed plasma treated and CNTF coated PGLA nerve conduits (n=6);group B:PGLA nerve conduits alone (n=6);group C:nerve autografts (n=6).HE staining, Massons' trichrome staining,S-100 immunostaining, electrophysiological test and axon counting were used to evaluate the results of nerve regeneration in three groups. In addition, the dynamic walking pattern was recor- ded individually. The observation period lasted for three months. Results All nerve conduits were well vas- cularized and mostly degraded as well as absorbed. It was found that the regenerating axons could traverse all nerve conduits. In regard to nerve conduction velocity and axon counting there was no significant difference be- tween group A and group C (P>0.05),while the data of group A and group C were significantly better than those of group B(P<0.05).The dogs in group A and C recovered nearly normal walk pattern while those in group B were still crippled. Conclusion Pulsed plasm-treated and then CNTF-coated PGLA nerve conduits could effectively repair 2.5-cm-long canine tibial nerve defects, and the effect is similar to that of autografts.

Objective To investigate the methods of reducing radiation dose in CT coronary angiography through optimizing individualized scan dosage protocol. Methods Two hundred patients (group A)underwent coronary CTA examination which was performed with fixed 120 kV and variable mA according to their BMI.The mA was set as 150-300 mA(BMI < 18.5 kg/m2),300-500 mA (18.5 kg/m2 ≤ BMI < 25.0 kg/m2),and 500-800 mA(BMI ≥ 25.0 kg/m2).When all examinations were finished,a linear regression was employed to analyze the correlation between mA and BMI,body surface(Suf),image noise(SD)respectively. The results of the analysis were used to formulate a regression equation, which was further used to establish a table list for quick search on how much mA that individualized coronary CTA scan would need.Another 200 patients(group B)enrolled for the individualized scan were scanned under new protocol that previous study established. The tube voltage was 100 and 120 kV.The tube current was variable according to the data in the table list.One-way ANOVA and Kruskal-wallis H test were used for statistics. Results Regression equation between mA and BMI,Suf,SD was:mA =17.984 × BMI + 169.149 × Suf-2.282 × SD-361.039.The SD(group A:32.08 ± 5.80,group B:28.60±4.47),dose index volume(CTDIvol)[group A:(41.97 ± 11.37)mGy,group B:(33.18±10.07)mGy],effective dose(ED)[group A:(10.91 ±3.07)mSy,group B:(8.83 ±2.72)mSv]had significant differences between the two groups(F =43.45,63.71,49.07 respectively,P <0.01 for all). The SD and ED results obtained in group B were better than those in group A.Conclusion Better performances were obtained when BMI combined Suf was used as a new individualized protocol than when BMI was used only, which means good image quality and lower radiation dosage in coronary CTA examination.
