Objective To investigate the morphology change of transplants of adrenocortical cells using poly-? -hybroxybutyric acid (PHB) as a cell carrier. Methods Adrenocortical cells were seeded on PHB and then implanted into rats bearing bilateral adrenalectomy. Histological changes and CD3 expression by using immunohistochemical staining were observed in local area of transplants on the postoperative week 2, 4, 8. Results Histological study showed inflaming cells were decreased as time passed, fibrous tissue disappeared step by step, PHB degraded gradually and adrenocortical cells tended to be organized; Ultrastratural observation revealed these cells maintained identical secreting function; Immunohistochemical assay indicated the expression of CD3 in the transplanted was similar to that in the normal adrenal cells. Conclusion The transplanted cells seeded in PHB can not only be survival, but also organized to the same tissue structure and ultrastructure as normal adrenal tissue.

Chinese Journal of Integrated Traditional and Western Medicine 2014;34(4):471-474
OBJECTIVETo investigate the effect of Xiaoyao Powder (XP) and its compatible prescriptions on the ethology, morphology, and activities of neurotransmitters, thus exploring their effects and mechanism in preventing and treating D-galactose induced Alzheimer's disease (AD) model mice, and clarifying the compatibility mechanism for soothing Gan, nourishing blood, and invigorating Pi.
METHODSSixty SPF mice were randomly divided into the blank control group, the model group, and the XP group, Shugan Jianpi group (SJ), Shugan Yangxue group (SY), and Jianpi Yangxue group (JY), 10 in each group. The AD mouse model was prepared by peritoneal injecting D-galactose. Meanwhile, mice in the blank control group and the model group were administered with physiological saline (at the daily dose of 24 mL/kg) by gastrogavage. Mice in the XP group (2.485 g/kg), the SY group (1.136 g/kg), the SJ group (1.775 g/kg), and the JY group (2.059 g/kg) were administered with corresponding medicated decoction by gastrogavage, with the gastric volume of 24 mL/kg. On the 41st day the training of capability for learning and memory was started. On the 42nd day capability for learning and memory was tested. The brain tissue was cut. One half was used to determine the contents of homogenate acetyl cholinesterase (AchE), choline acetyltransferase (ChAT), and monoamine oxidase (MAO).Another half was used to carry out morphological observations.
RESULTSThe capability for learning and memory could be improved and the latency time could be lowered in all the treatment groups. Besides, the homogenate AchE and MAO could also be elevated, ChAT could be lowered; the morphology, number, and distribution of neurons could be improved. But the improvement of ethology, morphology, and activities of neurotransmitters were most obviously seen in the XP group.
CONCLUSIONSXP could improve the ethology, morphology, and activities of neurotransmitters, and showed better effects on prevention and treatment of AD. The rationality of compatibility methods and combination thinking ways of soothing Gan, nourishing blood, and invigorating Pi were clarified.

Chinese Journal of Digestive Endoscopy 1996;0(06):-
Objective To discover the features of biliary obstruction in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and evaluate the effectiveness of therapeutic ERCP in the management of such patients. Methods Two hundred and ninety two patients (male 234 and female 58) suffering from HCC with obstructive jaundice underwent 358 times of ERCPs between May 2000 and March 2003. The mean (SD) age and mean (SD) total serum bilirubin of these patients were 51. 9 ?10. 6 yrs and 232 ? 158?mol/L respectively. The profiles of cholangiographic changes were recorded. Two hundred and sixty cases received treatment under endosco-py. Then therapeutic techniques including sphinclerotomy and debris removal, naso-biliary drainage, plastic or metal stent placement or several procedures in combination were given to all patients except 32 cases in far advanced condition. The body temperature, amount of bile drained and changes in liver function test were observed within two weeks post-procedure and based on these data the therapeutic effectiveness was evaluated. Results According to the features of radiographic finding, five types of biliary obstruction were classified as: type Ⅰ - intrahepatic stricture or occlusion (5.9%); type Ⅱ - perihilar stricture or occlusion (19. 0% ) ; type Ⅲ - extrahepatic stricture or occlusion (18. 4% ) ; type Ⅳ - hilar intraductal tumor em-bolus (49. 4% ) ; and type Ⅴ - intraductal floating tumor debris (7. 3% ) . In 267 patients/times under follow-up, the symptomatic jaundice was improved in 82. 0% of the patients with significant reduction of serum bilirubin in 65. 5%. Conclusion ERCP plays an important role in both diagnosis and palliative management of the HCC patients with obstructive jaundice.

15 mm in length or the contractile segment distal to the union of the biliary and pancreatic ducts. When common bile duct appeared to join the main pancreatic duct, it was denoted as B-P type. While th e main pancreatic duct appeared to join the common bile duct, it was denoted as P-B type. Results Fifty-four patients had been proven to have gallbladde r carcinoma histopathologically. Seven of them (men 3, women 4) had APBDJ (P-B union 6, B-P union 1). The mean (SD) common channel was 21 0 mm ?11 2 mm in length (range 12 mm to 45 mm), among them there was one case with associated ear ly cystic dilation of bile duct. Three other patients had APBDJ: one was associ ated with a choledochal cyst and two with normal biliary trees. The overall prev alence of APBDJ was 0 9% (10/1082 cases). The incidence of APBDJ was significan tly higher in patients with gallbladder carcinoma (P

Progress in Biochemistry and Biophysics 2009;36(1):33-41
Dynamic fucosylation of glycoprotein especially 80 ku which bound to UEA and LCA during the course of rat hepatocarcinogenesis was investigated. In patient hepatocellular carcinoma, more UEA- and LCA-bound proteins were also observed in patients with high metastatic potential than those with low metastatic potential. Fueosylated glycans constitute important adhesion molecules such as Lewis antigens. A differential expression pattern of Lewis antigens was further conf'Lrmed on various metastasis potential hepatocellular carcinoma cells (HCC). High metastatic hepatocellular carcinoma cell line (HMCC97H) expressed much more Lewis x and b than low metastasis HMCC97L cells. Moreover, surface Lewis x, or b expression level declined significantly after the cells were treated by retinoie acid. Not only in experimental metastasis foei, but in HCC as well, both α1,3/1,2 and α1,6 fucosyltransferase activities were quite high. After retinoie acid treatment, α1,3/1,2 fueosyltransferase activities were significantly inhibited, Lewis x on epidermal growth factor receptor reduced, and the EGFR was less phosphorylated. These results suggested that fucosylated glycans such as Lewis x played an important role in HCC development and metastasis.
