BACKGROUND:Osseous deformity is one of the most common Jaw deformities in clinic, which give patients serious impact on functionality and aesthetics, so patients want to cure it strongly. Recently, Functional Magnetic System has played an increasingly important role in correcting osseous deformity because of its advantages, so it is gradual y known by people.
OBJECTIVE:This article wil give a summary of Functional Magnetic System in the progress and deficiencies, in order to have a greater development in the field of correct osseous deformity.
METHODS:We searched the PubMed database, from January 1990 to June 2013 with the key words of“magnetic, orthodontics”in English. An online search of CNKI database, Wanfang database, Chongqing VIP database from January 1990 to June 2013 was also conducted with the key words of“magnetic, orthodontics”in Chinese.
RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:Functional Magnetic System is the combination of magnetic force and the traditional function correcting device, with the aid of attraction and repulsion, we could make up for the inadequacy in the treatment of Jaw osseous deformity, including the problems of length, width and height. With the development of magnetic materials and the research of magnetic materials, Functional Magnetic System wil have a bigger development.

Objective To investigate voicing changes of adult patients with obstructive sleep apnea hypopnea syndrome (OSAHS) before and after H-uvulopalatopharyngoplasty (H-UPPP). Methods 56 adult OSAHS pa-tients and 40 healthy people were included in the study. Acoustic parameters and formant frequencies were measured for each patient before and after H- UPPP, and also for the control group. Results Acoustic parameters: each group demonstrated no differences in all the parameters except for normalized noised energy (NNE). NNE increased after H-UPPP. Formant frequency: F1, B1, F2, B2, F3 of OSAHS patients were significantly lower than normal control. There was no significant difference in the formant frequency before operation and one week after; however, F1 and F2 were lower than the normal control one week after surgery. One month after surgery, F1 and F2 were ob-viously higher than that obtained in one week. All the other parameters compared with normal controls showed no significant discrepancies. Conclusion Acoustic characteristics of adult OSAHS patients were different from healthy person. After H-UPPP, the vocal tracts of patients changed, thus causing improvement to the acoustic parameters and voicing qualities, especially at the formant frequency. After the surgery, the formant frequencies of the patients increased gradually to the range of healthy people.

Objective To explore the diagnosis and treatment of altitude sickness combined with urinary retention. Methods 30 cases of altitude sickness combined with urinary retention were treated from April 16th to 26th,2010.They were all male,The average age of them was 24 years (range,19 -38).All were the first time entering the high altitude area (3600 -5000 m) from low altitude area (600 - 1800 m ).The urinary frequency of 25 patients reduced from 8 to 10 times/d to 2 to 4 times/d,the urine output reduced from the 1500- 2400 ml/d to 600- 800 ml/d; the other 5 patients had no urine in 12 -18 h,even had no sense to urinate.26 patients also combined with altitude pulmonary edema and 4 combined with altitude cerebral edema.30 patients had double renal columns enlarged,21 cases had urinary protein ( + ~ ++ ). Results 30 patients were exported urine 300 -600 ml within 10 min, leaded to urine 1800 -2300ml in 12 h,returned to normal voiding after catheter removal in 18 -24 h. After comprehensive treatment such as oxygen, dehydration, diuretic, sedative, antispasmodic and anti-infection,22 cases who with chest tightness, shortness of breath, dyspnea, hemoptysis foam sputum, headache, vomiting and other symptoms of jet-like improved apparently after hospital admission within 1 hour.Their heart rate downed from 90 - 145beats/min to 68 -92 beats/min,respiration from 28 -45 times/min to 18 - 28 times/min,oxygen saturation from 48% - 84% to 92% - 100% ; 8 cases who with shortness of breath, palpitation and headache improved not obviously. After the antihypertensive treatment, their blood pressure was still high (systolic blood pressure 150 - 180 mm Hg,diastolic blood pressure 90 -110 mm Hg),oxygen saturation between 78% to 87%,so they were carried to rear area for further treatment.30 cases were all cured no death. Conclusions The high altitude urinary retention is reversible disease, which is often associated with high altitude pulmonary edema, altitude cerebral edema, acute subclinical renal dysfunction and gastrointestinal disorders. They are easily being induced by elements such as gastroenteritis, lung infection, tonsillitis, periodontitis, tiredness and so on; low atmospheric pressure, hypoxia and high altitude is the possible cause; the ratio of missed diagnosis is high; the treatment of oxygen and indwelling catheterization is better; The best method of prevention is to wear pressurized suits and adapt the environment in a ladder-step gradual way.

This study tested the effects of the gastrointestinal pulse train electrical stimulation with different parameters and at different locations on the neuronal activities of the lateral hypothalamus area (LHA) in obese rats in order to find the optimal stimulation parameter and location. Eight gastric electrical stimulations (GES) with different parameters were performed and the neuronal activities of gastric-distension responsive (GD-R) neurons in LHA were observed. The effects of stimulations with 8 parameters were compared to find the optimal parameter. Then the optimal parameter was used to perform electrical stimulation at duodenum and ileum, and the effects of the duodenal and ileac stimulation on the GD-R neurons in LHA were compared with the gastric stimulation of optimal parameter. The results showed that GES with the lowest energy parameter (0.3 ms, 3 mA, 20 Hz, 2 s on, 3 s off) activated the least neurons. The effects of GES with other parameters whose pulse width was 0.3 ms were not significantly different from those of the lowest energy parameter. Most gastric stimulations whose pulse width was 3 ms activated more LHA neurons than the smallest energy parameter stimulation, and the effects of those 3 ms gastric stimulations were similar. Accordingly, the lowest energy parameter was recognized as the optimal parameter. The effects of stimulations with the optimal parameter at stomach, duodenum and ileum on the LHA neuronal activities were not different. Collectively, gastrointestinal electrical stimulation (GIES) with relatively large pulse width might have stronger effects to the neuronal activities of GD-R neurons in LHA of obese rats. The effects of the GIES at different locations (stomach, duodenum and ileum) on those neurons are similar, and GES is preferential because of its easy clinical performance and safety.

The effect of phenol concentration on the structure and function of microbial communities, which were cultured in different conditions using coking wastewater biofilm as seeding, was investigated by Biolog and denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis(DGGE)methods. The less number of bands of cultivated sam-ples on the denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis fingerprint of 16S rRNA gene indicated reduction of di-versity after enrichment and cultivation. Some bands on the DGGE gel were significantly influenced by the phenol concentration in medium. The results of Biolog showed that the original biofilm sample had the highest substrate utility capacity as measured by average well color development(AWCD).But low concen-tration of phenol enriched sample S7 showed more diverse activity on the utility of Carboxylic acids. The principal component analysis(PCA)of Biolog data revealed that the metabolic patterns were similar when using the same phenol concentration, although the sample S7 much less similar to other cultivated samples. These results suggested that the enrichment and cultivation with phenol supplemented decreased the diver-sity and also changed the metabolic function of the microbial community.Lower phenol concentration in-creased the microbial community metabolic activity. The phenol degrading capacity of isolates from each samples indicated that the enrichment and cultivation condition had changed the type and property of cul-truable bacteria.Based on these results,we concluded that the different microorganisms will be isolated un-der different cultivation condition.

Objective To determine the incidence and risk factors of iatrogenic retinal breaks in eyes undergoing pars plana vit- rectomy for idiopathic macular pucker.Design Retrospective case series.Participant 88 consecutive vitrectomies performed on eyes with idiopathic macular pucker.Method Consecutive vitrectomies performed on eyes with idiopathic macular pucker at Beijing Tongren Eye Center between 2002 and 2006 were retrospectively reviewed.Cases with iatrogenic retinal breaks were recorded and analyzed. Main Outcome Measure Number and location of retinal breaks, and anatomic outcome after surgical managements.Result A total of 88 consecutive vitrectomies were included in the study.Of the 88 eyes,8 eyes had 14 iatrogenic retinal breaks detected, with an aver- age incidence of 9.1%.Peripheral retinal breaks(8.0%)were more common than posterior retinal breaks(1.1%).All peripheral retinal breaks occurred around the selerotomy sites(100%)and the quadrant of predominant hand was involved most commonly(62%).Most of the breaks(88%)were detected during the surgery. All eyes with iatrogenic retinal breaks obtained anatomic retinal reattachment (100%).Conclusion Despite improvements in instrumentation and surgical techniques, iatrogenic retinal break continues to be an im- portant complication of pars plana vitrectomy in eyes with idiopathic macular pucker. This complication tends to occur more commonly at peripheral retina and is mainly selerotomy-related.

Objective:To observe the effect of protoscolex on Th subsets and correlative cytokine in mice spleen cells in vitro.Methods:Co-culture spleen cells from BALB/c mice with protoscolices, then IL-4,IFN-γand TGF-βproduction in cell culture supernatants were analyzed by ELISA.The percentage of Th subsets were detected by Flow Cytometry analysis. Results:Secretion levels of IL-4 and TGF-βwere significantly increased in spleen cells at different time point in co-culture system with protoscolices.Ratios of Th2 and Treg cells were also significantly increased in co-culture system at different time points than the control groups. However, there was no statistical significance for ratio of Th1 cells at different time points. Conclusion:The protoscolex can increase the ratios of Th2 cells and Treg cells from spleen cells.Secretion levels of IL-4 and TGF-βwere also increased in spleen cells co-cultured with protosco-lices.The results suggest that these Th cell subsets play a role in the immune escape of the hydatid disease.
