BACKGROUND:Osseous deformity is one of the most common Jaw deformities in clinic, which give patients serious impact on functionality and aesthetics, so patients want to cure it strongly. Recently, Functional Magnetic System has played an increasingly important role in correcting osseous deformity because of its advantages, so it is gradual y known by people.
OBJECTIVE:This article wil give a summary of Functional Magnetic System in the progress and deficiencies, in order to have a greater development in the field of correct osseous deformity.
METHODS:We searched the PubMed database, from January 1990 to June 2013 with the key words of“magnetic, orthodontics”in English. An online search of CNKI database, Wanfang database, Chongqing VIP database from January 1990 to June 2013 was also conducted with the key words of“magnetic, orthodontics”in Chinese.
RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:Functional Magnetic System is the combination of magnetic force and the traditional function correcting device, with the aid of attraction and repulsion, we could make up for the inadequacy in the treatment of Jaw osseous deformity, including the problems of length, width and height. With the development of magnetic materials and the research of magnetic materials, Functional Magnetic System wil have a bigger development.

Objective To evaluate the clinical effect of surgical operation for recovering the function of ulnar nerve with large segment defect. Methods Twentycases with the large segment defect of ulnar nerve were retrospectively analyzed from September 1999 to December 2006 in the hospital. All the patients were treated by the operation of nerve end-to-side neurorrhaphy . The broken end of ulnar nerve was anastomosed with the median nerve. And observed the recovery of the sensation and motion function of the little finger, interosseous muscles and claw hand, then compared with before. Results All cases were followed up for 8 to 36 months. The mean was 16 months. The sensation and motion function of the little fingers had better restoration after operation. No incision infection, anchylosis or myatrophy was occurred.Excellent(M4 + S4 +) ,Good (M3S3), moderate (M2S2), and poor effects (M1S1) were achieved respectively in 6, 4,2 and 0 cases based on the scale of XU' s grading standard. The excellent and good rate was 83.3%. Conclusion The nerve end-to-side neurorrhaphy was a effective treatment for the patients with large segment defect of ulnar nerve.

The effect of phenol concentration on the structure and function of microbial communities, which were cultured in different conditions using coking wastewater biofilm as seeding, was investigated by Biolog and denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis(DGGE)methods. The less number of bands of cultivated sam-ples on the denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis fingerprint of 16S rRNA gene indicated reduction of di-versity after enrichment and cultivation. Some bands on the DGGE gel were significantly influenced by the phenol concentration in medium. The results of Biolog showed that the original biofilm sample had the highest substrate utility capacity as measured by average well color development(AWCD).But low concen-tration of phenol enriched sample S7 showed more diverse activity on the utility of Carboxylic acids. The principal component analysis(PCA)of Biolog data revealed that the metabolic patterns were similar when using the same phenol concentration, although the sample S7 much less similar to other cultivated samples. These results suggested that the enrichment and cultivation with phenol supplemented decreased the diver-sity and also changed the metabolic function of the microbial community.Lower phenol concentration in-creased the microbial community metabolic activity. The phenol degrading capacity of isolates from each samples indicated that the enrichment and cultivation condition had changed the type and property of cul-truable bacteria.Based on these results,we concluded that the different microorganisms will be isolated un-der different cultivation condition.

Objective To determine the incidence and risk factors of iatrogenic retinal breaks in eyes undergoing pars plana vit- rectomy for idiopathic macular pucker.Design Retrospective case series.Participant 88 consecutive vitrectomies performed on eyes with idiopathic macular pucker.Method Consecutive vitrectomies performed on eyes with idiopathic macular pucker at Beijing Tongren Eye Center between 2002 and 2006 were retrospectively reviewed.Cases with iatrogenic retinal breaks were recorded and analyzed. Main Outcome Measure Number and location of retinal breaks, and anatomic outcome after surgical managements.Result A total of 88 consecutive vitrectomies were included in the study.Of the 88 eyes,8 eyes had 14 iatrogenic retinal breaks detected, with an aver- age incidence of 9.1%.Peripheral retinal breaks(8.0%)were more common than posterior retinal breaks(1.1%).All peripheral retinal breaks occurred around the selerotomy sites(100%)and the quadrant of predominant hand was involved most commonly(62%).Most of the breaks(88%)were detected during the surgery. All eyes with iatrogenic retinal breaks obtained anatomic retinal reattachment (100%).Conclusion Despite improvements in instrumentation and surgical techniques, iatrogenic retinal break continues to be an im- portant complication of pars plana vitrectomy in eyes with idiopathic macular pucker. This complication tends to occur more commonly at peripheral retina and is mainly selerotomy-related.

Objective:To understand the expression levels of Tim-3,a new proinflammatory factor in the early stages of Echinococcus granulosus infection in mice. Methods: BALB/c mice were infected with E.granulosus.Peritoneal macrophages and spleen cells were collected at 1,5,9 and 13 days post-infection.At different time points ,the levels of Tim-3 in peritoneal macrophages and spleen CD3+lymphocyte subsets were detected by FCM , and the relative expression of TLR 4 mRNA was detected by qRT-PCR.Results:There was no significant difference in the expression levels of Tim-3 of CD3+spleen lymphocyte subsets between E.granulosus group and control group (P>0.05).The expression levels of Tim-3 of spleen macrophages (9,13 days) and peritoneal macrophage (5,9,13 days) were much higher in E.granulosus infected group than those in control group with statistical significance (P<0.05).The numbers of macrophages were no change.Compared with control groups, the relative expression of TLR4 mRNA at 1 day post-infection was statistically higher in E.granulosus infected group ( P<0.05 ).Conclusion:During early stage of E.granulosus infection in mice, the levels of Tim-3 expression are upregulated, while the expression of TLR4 are downregulated, which may inhibit the function of macrophages resulting in host-immunity-defensive-system inhibition and immune tolerance of E.granulosus to host.

Objective To explore the diagnosis and treatment of altitude sickness combined with urinary retention. Methods 30 cases of altitude sickness combined with urinary retention were treated from April 16th to 26th,2010.They were all male,The average age of them was 24 years (range,19 -38).All were the first time entering the high altitude area (3600 -5000 m) from low altitude area (600 - 1800 m ).The urinary frequency of 25 patients reduced from 8 to 10 times/d to 2 to 4 times/d,the urine output reduced from the 1500- 2400 ml/d to 600- 800 ml/d; the other 5 patients had no urine in 12 -18 h,even had no sense to urinate.26 patients also combined with altitude pulmonary edema and 4 combined with altitude cerebral edema.30 patients had double renal columns enlarged,21 cases had urinary protein ( + ~ ++ ). Results 30 patients were exported urine 300 -600 ml within 10 min, leaded to urine 1800 -2300ml in 12 h,returned to normal voiding after catheter removal in 18 -24 h. After comprehensive treatment such as oxygen, dehydration, diuretic, sedative, antispasmodic and anti-infection,22 cases who with chest tightness, shortness of breath, dyspnea, hemoptysis foam sputum, headache, vomiting and other symptoms of jet-like improved apparently after hospital admission within 1 hour.Their heart rate downed from 90 - 145beats/min to 68 -92 beats/min,respiration from 28 -45 times/min to 18 - 28 times/min,oxygen saturation from 48% - 84% to 92% - 100% ; 8 cases who with shortness of breath, palpitation and headache improved not obviously. After the antihypertensive treatment, their blood pressure was still high (systolic blood pressure 150 - 180 mm Hg,diastolic blood pressure 90 -110 mm Hg),oxygen saturation between 78% to 87%,so they were carried to rear area for further treatment.30 cases were all cured no death. Conclusions The high altitude urinary retention is reversible disease, which is often associated with high altitude pulmonary edema, altitude cerebral edema, acute subclinical renal dysfunction and gastrointestinal disorders. They are easily being induced by elements such as gastroenteritis, lung infection, tonsillitis, periodontitis, tiredness and so on; low atmospheric pressure, hypoxia and high altitude is the possible cause; the ratio of missed diagnosis is high; the treatment of oxygen and indwelling catheterization is better; The best method of prevention is to wear pressurized suits and adapt the environment in a ladder-step gradual way.

Objective To investigate voicing changes of adult patients with obstructive sleep apnea hypopnea syndrome (OSAHS) before and after H-uvulopalatopharyngoplasty (H-UPPP). Methods 56 adult OSAHS pa-tients and 40 healthy people were included in the study. Acoustic parameters and formant frequencies were measured for each patient before and after H- UPPP, and also for the control group. Results Acoustic parameters: each group demonstrated no differences in all the parameters except for normalized noised energy (NNE). NNE increased after H-UPPP. Formant frequency: F1, B1, F2, B2, F3 of OSAHS patients were significantly lower than normal control. There was no significant difference in the formant frequency before operation and one week after; however, F1 and F2 were lower than the normal control one week after surgery. One month after surgery, F1 and F2 were ob-viously higher than that obtained in one week. All the other parameters compared with normal controls showed no significant discrepancies. Conclusion Acoustic characteristics of adult OSAHS patients were different from healthy person. After H-UPPP, the vocal tracts of patients changed, thus causing improvement to the acoustic parameters and voicing qualities, especially at the formant frequency. After the surgery, the formant frequencies of the patients increased gradually to the range of healthy people.
