Objective To investigate the risks of self-rated health in the ≥55-year elderly in Beijing and the occurrence of stroke. Methods The subjects (n=2 101;aged ≥55) from Beijing longitudinal study of aging (BLSA) were collected by Xuanwu Hospital,Capital Medical University from January 1992 to December 2016.One hundred and twenty-one subjects with stroke at baseline and 92 with incomplete information were excluded, and finally,1 888 elderly patients without cerebrovascular disease at baseline were included in the analysis.Based on the actual situation, the self-rated health was to identify an item that matched their current state from good, general to poor. The deadline for the survey was December 31,2012.The competitive risk model was used to assess the health self-rated status and the risk of stroke.Non-stroke deaths, including cancer and car accidents were treated as competitive events. Results Of the 1 888 subjects enrolled,946 (50.1%) self-rated health were good,616 (32.6%) were general, and 326 (17.3%) were poor;438 (23.2%) had stroke,751 (37.8%) had non-stroke death, and 699 (37.0%) were right censored data.Using the competing risk model and adjusting the age, sex, living area, marital status, education level, smoking, alcohol consumption, physical exercise, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, coronary heart disease, and body mass index, the occurrence of stroke in patients with poor self-rated health was 1.44 times (95%CI 1.11-1.87,P<0.01) as good as those who were good. Conclusion In the self-rated health of the elderly ≥55 years old in Beijing, the people with poor self-rated health increased the occurrence of stroke after considering the competitive risks.

· AIM :To investigate the role of pericytes in growth of retinal microvascular endothelial cells with a co-culture system in order to understand some mechanism of angiogenesis in hypoxia induced retinal neovascular disorders.(RMECs) were isolated by a modified protocol using CD31 coated Dynabeads, and identified by immunocytochemical staining with anti-Factor Ⅷ and CD31 antibodies. Rat retinal pericytes were isolated and characterized by immunofluorescent staining with PDGFR-β; and desmin antibodies. Pericytes and RMECs were cultured in a contact co-culture system both under normoxia and hypoxia by Millicell chamber. RMECs proliferation was evaluated by MTT and cell cycle assay with flow cytometry. RT-PCR was used to detect the alteration of KDR/Flk-1 mRNA level in RMECs under normoxia or hypoxia in the co-culture system.harvested with the modified isolating method. The two cell types were identified by positive Factor Ⅷ, CD31 and PDGFR-β, desmin cytochemical staining respectively.RMECs proliferated significantly under hypoxia from 3 to 9d with a maximal rate on day 6 (24.9%, P < 0.01) by MTT. In the co-culture system, the proliferation of RMECs was inhibited by pericytes. After 6d exposure to hypoxia, the fraction of S-phase RMECs number was greatly increased by 43.9% (P < 0.01). In the co-culture system,RMECs proliferation was inhibited by pericytes through decreasing the fraction of S-phase cell number both under normoxia (3.6%, P<0.05) and under hypoxia (15.1%,P<0.01). KDR/Flk-1 mRNA level in single cultured RMECs was shown to increase approximately 1.3-fold when exposed to hypoxia. Compared with single cultured RMECs, co-culture with pericytes could decrease KDR/Flk-1 mRNA by 45.1% (P<0.05) and 27.7% (P < 0.05) under normoxia and hypoxia condition respectively.pericytes could inhibit proliferation of RMECs under both normoxia and hypoxia. The inhibition effects of pericytes maybe, at least in part, due to downregulation of KDR/Flk-1 of RMECs. These findings confirm that pericytes could be a potential inhibitor in the pathogenesis of retinal neovascularization.

OBJECTIVEThe main purpose of this work was to give the evidence of reasonable and feasible dust control measures which will be taken in the future by analyzing the trend of dust concentration from 1991 to 2010 and identifying working faces with the severe dust contamination in one underground iron mine.
METHODSThe data was from routine monitoring between the years 1991 and 2010, which enclosed the total dust concentrations and silica contents. China National Standard of Occupational exposure limits for hazardous agents in the workplace used to judge whether the dust concentration exceeded the National Standard.
RESULTSThe general trend of total dust concentration from 1991 to 2010 was decreased, especially maximum and average levels. The highest exceeding rate was 43.16% in 1993 and the best years were 2009 and 2010, but the exceeding rates were still over 30%. The dust exposure levels varied with different work faces. The mining and supporting were the most severe dust pollution faces which the highest ultra exceeding rates were 51.61% and 51.48% and the maximum exceeding times were 64.6 and 16.4 respectively. The next was constructing face with 40.23% exceeding rate and 24.6 times more than standard.
CONCLUSIONThe trend of total dust concentration from 1991 to 2010 was decreased, but the dust exceeding rate was still high. The strong measures should be taken to control the dust pollution in this iron mine, especially mining and supporting faces.

OBJECTIVETo study the effect of internal fixation with absorbable pins on treatment of displaced radial head fractures.
METHODSFrom May 1999 to May 2004, 16 patients with displaced radial head fractures (Mason types II and III) were treated with internal fixation by absorbable pins. The duration of follow-up averaged 22.6 months (12-58 months). The outcome was assessed on the basis of elbow motion, radiographic findings and the functional rating score delineated by Broberg and Morrey.
RESULTSAll fractures healed within 10 months without avascular necrosis of radial head. The mean elbow flexion loss was 15 degrees (0 degrees-35 degrees), and pronation and supination decreased by 10 degrees (0 degrees-30 degrees) on average compared with those of the contralateral elbow. Five patients had an excellent result, 6 a good result, and 3 a fair result according to the criteria of Borberg and Morrey.
CONCLUSIONSInternal fixation with absorbable pins is an effective method in treating displaced radial head fractures. It can maintain the biomechanical stability of forearm, improve the elbow function and avoid second operation.
