OBJECTIVETo summarize the complications and the early clinical effect of less invasive stabilization system and the femoral condylar support plates in the treatment of AO type C distal femoral fractures.
METHODSFrom September 2007 to February 2012, 46 patients with AO type C distal femoral fractures were retrospectively studied. Of all patients 25 were treated with less invasive stabilization system including 14 males and 11 females with a mean age of (56.3±4.2) years old; according to AO classification, there were 14 cases of C1, 8 cases of C2 and 3 cases of C3 with a mean hospital stay of (15.6±1.7) days. While 21 cases were treated with femoral condylar support plates fixation including 12 males and 9 females with a mean age of (53.8±5.1) years old;there were 13 cases of C1, 6 cases of C2 and 2 cases of C3 with a mean hospital stay of (17.8±2.2) days. Comparative analysis was performed from the operation related index, postoperative complications and Evanich score of the knee joint function between the two groups at follow-up.
RESULTSAll 46 patients were followed up from 13 to 38 months with a mean time of 19.6 months after surgery. Complications included 1 case with infection,3 cases with internal fixation failure, 1 case with nonunion and 1 case with activity limitation of the affected knee. The differences in the incision length, blood loss, fracture healing time were significant between two groups (P<0.05), while there was no significant difference in the duration of operations, hospital stays and the incidence of postoperative complications between two groups (P>0.05). The statistical significance was also found in the Evanich score at last follow-up between two groups (P<0.05).
CONCLUSIONPatients with less invasive stabilization system fixation had the characteristics of less trauma, shorter fracture healing time and better functional recovery. Less invasive stabilization system had became one of the ideal internal fixations in the treatment of AO type C distal femoral fractures.

To summarize Professor LIU Feng-bin's clinical experience and theoretical thoughts on chronic atrophic gastritis (CAG), the study group designed a retrospective study on his case series and expert interview. First of all, the data of CAG patients treated in the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine between 2009 and 2013, e. g. herbs, diseases, syndrome type, prescription amount and number of herbs, was collected and processed. The statistical description and binary logistic regression were used to determined the syndrome type, initial basic remedy and modification. During the statistics, a complete and sub-group analysis was performed simultaneously. After the expert interview, the syndrome type and medication were finalized. As a result, a total of 228 CAG patients aged at (50.30 ± 10.18) were collected, including 151 males (66.23%). Of them, the TCM diagnosis and syndrome type were extracted from the information of 157 patients, including 115 cases with gastric stuffiness, 23 cases with gastric pain, 19 missing cases, 2 cases with spleen-stomach weakness syndrome, 57 cases with spleen deficiency and dampness-heat syndrome, 18 cases with spleen-stomach disharmony syndrome, 23 cases with syndrome of liver depression syndrome, 21 cases with liver qi invading stomach syndrome and 26 qi and yin deficiency syndrome, respectively. All of the 228 patients used totally 104 herbs, while the subgroups with 157 patients used 94 herbs. The most frequently used 15 herbs used in each groups were analyzed to determine the initial basic remedy and modification. Subsequently, based on the information of the sub-groups with 157 patients, with the syndrome type as the dependent variable, the logistic regression analysis was made on the most frequently used 32 herbs, in order to determined the modification in herbs for different syndrome types. After experts reviewed and modified, they believed the main causes of CAG were dietary irregularities, moodiness and weak constitution; the pathogenesis of CAG was spleen deficiency with qi stagnation, heat depression and blood stasis in the stomach meridian. The above six syndrome types and 12 herbs were determined, including Pseudostellariae Radix, Poria, Atractylodismacrocephalae Rhizoma, Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, Fritillariae Thunbergii Bulbus, Sepiae Endoconcha, Arecae Pericarpium, Aurantii Fructus, Perillae Caulis, Herba Hedyotis Diffusae, Scutellariae Barbatae Herba, Curcumae Rhizoma. This study summarized Professor LIU Feng-bin's clinical experience and theoretical thoughts of chronic atrophic gastritis based on clinical practice data and expert interview, with a rigorous design and good scientificity and practicability.

MicroRNA (miRNA) belongs to a class of small, non-coding RNA molecules that contains 18-25 nucleotides and regulates gene expression at post-transcriptional level. Many miRNAs are highly conserved and display timing- and tissue-specific expression. With the advance of the miRNA detection technologies, miRNA has been introduced to forensic science as a potentially novel set of genetic markers of forensic body fluid identification, species identification and PMI estimation. In this article, the detection methodologies of miRNA are reviewed, and their potential applications in forensic practice and research future are also discussed.

OBJECTIVETo study on the drug release characteristics and mechanism of gastrodin ion-activated nasal in situ gel in vitro.
METHODRegularity and mechanism of the drug release of gastrodin nasal in situ gel were studied by using the diffusion cell model and the membrane-less dissolution model, respectively. A novel kinesis diffusion cell model was designed according to the characteristics of release environment of nasal cavity. It was used to investigate the effect of adhesiveness on the release of the in situ gel.
RESULTDrug release of gastrodin nasal in situ gel followed the one order release model. Erosion rate of the gel was low and not linearly correlated with the release rate. Compared with gastrodin solution, the nasal in situ gel could increase release time and release amount.
CONCLUSIONGastrodin in the nasal in situ gel is released mainly by diffusion rather than erosion. Release amount of the in situ gel in nasal cavity may be obviously increased because of its adhesiveness.

Chinese journal of integrative medicine 2010;16(5):394-398
A new method for the comparison of the treatment efficacy for specific diseases or conditions between Chinese medicine and Western medicine, which serve the same medical aim but are based on substantially different theoretical systems, was identified. Abiding by the principle of parallel subgroup design of a randomized controlled trial (PSD-RCT), participants were recruited following identical inclusion and exclusion criteria and were randomly allocated into two groups to receive treatment using the respective approaches of Chinese medicine and Western medicine. The Chinese medicine group was divided into subgroups according to the theory of Chinese medicine and the Western medicine group was also divided into subgroups according to the theory of Western medicine. The treatment for each subgroup was well defined in the protocol, including major formulae and principles for individualized modifications. The primary outcome measure was ascertained to be directly related to the patients' status but independent from both theories of Chinese medicine and Western medicine, while the secondary outcomes were represented by the patient-reported outcomes and some laboratory tests commonly accepted by Chinese medicine and Western medicine. Then, taking functional dyspepsia as an example, the authors explain the framework of the PSD-RCT for efficacy comparisons between Chinese medicine and Western medicine, and recommend that the PSD-RCT can be used to compare treatment efficacy for a specific disease or condition between Chinese medicine and Western medicine, and the comparison among subgroups can provide valuable clues for further studies.

Objective To research correlation of serum protein spectrometry and lymphoma markers for diffuse large B cell lymphoma (DLBCL) patients. Whether there is relative between the protein and prognosis will be further researched. Methods Serum protein spectrometry of 62 DLBCL patients was detected by the SELDI-TOF-MS technique and Weak cation exchange 2 (WCX2) chip. Lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) was detected by biochemistry method. Beta-2-microglobulin (β2-MG) and cancer antigen125(CA125)were detected by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). The level of LDH, β2-MG and CA125 for DLBCL patients between 11×103~12×103 protein expressed positively and negatively was analyzed. Meanwhile, correlation analysis and survival analysis were done. Results LDH, β2-MG and CA125 in 11×103~12×103protein expressed positive group were (523.30±435.96)U/L, (3.23±1.24)mg/L, (81.07±61.39)U/L respectively, and they were higher than that in negative group (P<0.05). 11×103~12×103 protein was positive correlated to LDH, β2-MG and CA125 (P<0.01). The survival time in 11×103~12×103 protein expressed in positive group,in which median survival time was 11 months, was shorter than that in negative group(P <0.01). The survival time in LDH normal group was longer than that in increased group(P <0.01). The survival time of β2-MG and CA125 had no significant difference between increased group and normal group. Conclusion LDH and 11×103~12×103 protein are expected to be prognosis indicators for DLBCL patients.

Objective To probe the immunological traits of mesenchymal stem cells derived from umbilical cord Wharton's jelly (WJMSCs). Methods The diced Wharton's jelly which was from healthy fullterm birth human umbilical cord was cultured. The mesenchymal stem cells were identified with mesenchymal stem cells markers expression by flow cytometry and multiple differentiation ability. The expression of MHC- Ⅰ / Ⅱ, costimulatory molecules (CD40, CD80 and CD86) was detected with flow cytomctry, immunocytochemistry, and RT-PCR. The expression of immune inhibitors like HLA-G, IDO, and PGE2 was detected by immunocytochemistry and RT-PCR. The expression of immune-related molecules as IL-10, TGF-β, FGF and VEGF was detected with antibody microarray and western blot. Further more, to clarify the in vivo immune reaction of hWJMSCs, we fabricated the hWJMSC-scaffold constructs and implanted them into the rabbit backs. The lymphocyte infiltration and implanted cell survival observed with immunofluorescence. Results After culturinge of diced Wharton's jelly tissue, we obtained spindle-shaped cells. With differentiation medium, the cells can differentiate into osteoblasts, chongdrocytes, adipose cells and schwann cells. Expression of MHC, costimulatory molecules, and a series of immune suppressive-related molecules was found. Immune inhibitors as HLA-G, 1DO, PGE2, and immune suppressive related molecules as HGF, VEGF, TGFand IL-10 were positively expressed. But the cells did not express MHC-Ⅱ. No immune rejection was observed in vivo after implantation of hWJMSC-scaffold constructs. Conclusion It can be concluded that hWJMSCs have very low immunogenicity, which means the cells have potential to induce immune tolerance. The hWJMSCs do not provoke immune rejection in vivo.
