2.Comparison between transthoracic and transesophageal echocardiography in diagnosing adult multiple atrial septal defect

Objective To explore the value of transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) and transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) in diagnosing adult multiple atrial septal defect (MASD). Methods Thirty adult patients with MASD were examined with TTE, 25 patients were examined also with TEE, 26 patients were examined with cardiac catheterization as well. Transcatheter closure of MASD was performed in 20 patients and succeeded in 18, while open-chest operation was performed in 4 patients. Results Foramen secundum atrial septal defect was diagnosed with both TTE and TEE with an accuracy rate of 60.00% (18/30) and 96.00% (24/25), respectively. The main color Doppler flow imaging (CDFI) feature of adult MASD was multiple colorful left-to-right shunt signals through the atrial septal designated, i.e. colander sign of CDFI. Conclusion TTE has some difficulties and TEE has specific value in diagnosing adult MASD. TTE can be used before open-chest operation. TEE is necessary before transcatheter occlusion to make sure of the amount and location of atrial septal defect.

4.Identification of hepatitis B virus intergenotype recombination in Chinese patients.

OBJECTIVETo identify the intergenotype recombination of hepatitis B virus (HBV) in Chinese patients and explore new recombination types of HBV.
METHODSComplete genome sequences of HBV from Chinese patients were downloaded from GenBank and analyzed by Fragment-typing method to screen the potential recombinants, and the breakpoints of recombination were identified by using Simplot program.
RESULTSThirty-one recombination types including 755 recombinants were identified from 1642 complete HBV genome sequences, including 22 B/C recombination types with 676 recombinants, 5 C/D recombination types with 75 recombinants, 3 A/C recombination types with 3 recombinants, and 1 C/I recombination type with 1 recombinant.
CONCLUSIONOf the 31 recombination types comprising 755 recombinants, 4 are novel recombination types found for the first time. All these recombination types identified in this study involve genotype C.

5.Effect of pigmentation on the strength of dental Y-TZP/porcelain bilayered structure.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the effect of two methods of pigmentation on the flexural strength of dental Y-TZP/porcelain layered structure.
METHODSKaVo zirconia substructures were pigmented by dipping presintered blocks in the coloring solution VITA LL1 and LL5, and colored TZ-3YS zirconia substructures were fabricated by adding pigments before isostatic pressing. The colors No.1 and No.5 were used for the test. The specimens were made in monolithic or bilayered forms, and the flexural strength was tested. XRD and SEM with EDX were used to analyze the characteristics of the surface structure.
RESULTSIn KaVo group, no significant differences were found in the flexural strength between white and LL1 and LL5 colored monoclinic materials, nor in bilayered structures. While in TZ-3YS group, significant differences were noted in the flexural strength between color No.5 white and color No.1 monoclinic materials, but not between the latter two subgroups. The flexural strength was significantly lowered by veneering with porcelain in both zirconia groups, and similar findings were observed with the monoclinic materials. Only the tetragonal phase was detected in both of the zirconia groups.
CONCLUSIONPigmentation has no apparent effects on the bonding strength between the veneering porcelain and zirconia. Both coloring methods are appropriate when the concentration of the pigments is under deliberate control.

6.Effects of three types of veneering porcelain on bending strength of KAVO(TM) Y-TZP/porcelain bilayered structure.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the effect of three types of veneering porcelain on the bending strength of KAVO Y-TZP/porcelain layered structure.
METHODSKAVO zirconia ceramics were used as the substructure. To form Y-TZP/porcelain bilayered structure, a leucite-based veneering porcelain was fired on the zirconia substructures by slip-casting technique with dentin washbake, and two nano-fluorapatite-based veneering porcelains were fired on the zirconia substructures by either slip-casting or pressed-on technique with or without liner coverage. The bending strength was tested according to ISO 6872 standard, and the veneered surfaces of the fracture samples were analyzed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM).
RESULTSFor covering KAVO zirconia core material, the conventional veneering slurry-porcelain combined with liner or wash firing had significant higher bending strength than pressed-on porcelain. SEM showed that the main failure type at the interface was adhesive failure.
CONCLUSIONThin layer sintering using washbake program or liner on KAVO zirconia surface increases the surface wettability, and this procedure may be indispensable when veneering on the surface of dental zirconia.

7.Detection of epidermal growth factor receptor gene mutations in non-small cell lung cancer using bi-loop probe specific primer quantitative PCR.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the sensitivity of bi-loop probe and specific primer quantitative PCR (BPSP-qPCR) in the detection of epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) gene mutations in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC).
METHODSBPSP-qPCR was employed to examine the presence of mutations of EFGR exon 19 through 21. Correlation of the mutations with clinicopathological characteristics and types of tumor samples were performed.
RESULTSIn the cohort of 265 specimens, 30.2% (80/265) mutations were found to be 19-del and/or L858R. Females (39.7%, 31/78), non-smokers (41.0%, 43/105) and adenocarcinoma patients (37.8%, 51/135) had a higher mutation rate (P<0.05) among 184 patients whose profiles were available. T790M combined with 19-del and/or L858R accounted for 3.3% (6/184) of the mutations. Male metastatic tumors (29.6%, 8/27), pleural fluids of females (42.9%, 9/21) and non-smokers (40.7%, 11/27) were found to have higher percentage of 19-del and/or L858R mutations, in contrast, no mutations were found in the metastatic lesions of non-adenocarcinoma patients (P>0.05).
CONCLUSIONSBPSP-qPCR is a robust method in detection of EGFR mutations with high consistency and sensitivity. The difference of EGFR mutations in primary tumors, metastatic lesions and pleural fluids suggests that EGFR tyrosine kinase inhibitors (EGFR-TKI) treatment may have variable treatment effects depending on the tumor sites.

8.Preventive and therapeutic effects of recombinant IFN-alpha2b nasal spray on SARS-CoV infection in Macaca mulata.

OBJECTIVETo study the preventive and therapeutic effects of recombinant IFN-alpha2b for nasal spray on SARS-CoV infection in Macaca mulata (rhesus monkey).
METHODSTen rhesus monkeys were divided into two groups, 5 in interferon group, and 5 in control group. Before and after SARS-CoV attack, the virus was detected in samples such as pharyngeal swab in all the two groups by Real-time PCR (RT-PCR) and virus isolation was performed.
RESULTSAfter virus attack, the level of SARS-CoV-specific IgG and neutralizing antibody were induced by SARS-CoV in the interferon group was weaker than in control group. Hematology items showed no apparent changes after virus attack in treated group. Through pathological examination, the morphology of the lung tissues of two Macaques in the treated group was normal, while the other three displayed the interstitial pneumonia with the thickened septum and infiltration with mononuclear cells. Among which, one monkey showed part of thickened septum fused with each other. These lesions in the interferon treated animals were similar to those seen in the animals in control group, but with smaller scope of pathological changes. No significant abnormity was detected in other organs.
CONCLUSIONRecombinant IFN-alpha2b could effectively interdict or weaken SARS-CoV injury in monkeys.

9.Analysis of malaria epidemic situation before and after malaria elimination in Qiandongnan Prefecture of Guizhou

Objective:To analyze the characteristics of malaria epidemic situation before and after malaria elimination in Qiandongnan Prefecture, and to provide the basis for establishment of effective strategies and measures to consolidate the achievements of malaria prevention and control.Methods:The data of malaria cases in 16 counties (cities) of Qiandongnan Prefecture from 2005 to 2018 were collected, and descriptive epidemiological method was used to analyze the infection rate of Plasmodium among local residents and floating population before (2005-2011) and after (2012-2018) elimination of malaria, and the characteristics of population distribution, seasonal distribution, species of Plasmodium and types of malaria vectors were analyzed. Results:Before elimination of malaria, total of 1 412 cases of malaria were reported, among those cases, 1 361 cases were local cases, accounting for 96.39% of the total cases. After elimination of malaria, total of 17 cases were reported, all of them were imported cases. After comparison of malaria cases before and after the elimination, the proportion of people aged from 18 to 60 was 70.54% (996/1 412) before the elimination, all 17 imported cases were 18-60 years old after the elimination, and the proportion of children/students decreased from 24.65% (348/1 412) before the elimination to 0 after the elimination. The peak incidence of malaria cases before the elimination was from June to October, and cases occurred every month. After the elimination, the imported cases were sporadic. Plasmodium vivax was the main species of Plasmodium before the elimination (98.58%, 1 392/1 412), and Plasmodium falciparum was mainly imported after the elimination (70.59%, 12/17). Before and after the elimination, Anopheles sinensis, the malaria vector, was the dominant population, but no distribution of Anopheles minimus and Anopheles anthropophagus was found after 2015. Conclusions:After the elimination of malaria in Qiandongnan Prefecture, there is a risk of local malaria cases caused by imported cases. It is suggested that local authorities should focus on the treatment of suspected malaria cases and vector surveillance of overseas returnees in the future.

Neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD) is a kind of immune mediated inflammatory demyelinating disease of the central nervous system manifesting with optic neuritis and acute transverse myelitis,which takes a relapsing or progression course.The exact etiology and pathogenesis are not clear.There are a lot of researches on immune pathogenesis;in addition,the pathogenesis also involves genetic,environmental,oxidative stress and other factors.
