1.Two Cases of Yersinia Pseudotuberculosis Infection with Acute Renal Failure in Pusan Province.
Journal of the Korean Society of Pediatric Nephrology 1998;2(2):187-191
The usefulness of E-cadherin immunostaining as a marker of malignancy in the body fluids was investigated in the present study. Thirty-three histologically proven cases of cell blocks from the pleural, peritoneal, and pericardial fluids were studied by immunocytochemistry for E-cadherin antibody using LSAB method. These cases were cytologically diagnosed as adenocarcinoma (25 cases) and atypical cells (8 cases). Tumor cells showed strong positive membranous staining for E-cadherin antibody in 21 out of 25 cases (84%) of adenocarcinoma. E-cadherin staining was not found in 6 of 8 cases of suspicious maligancy. The sensitivity and specificity were 84% and 75%, respectively. Reactive mesothelial cells and inflammatory cells scattered were all negative. In conclusion, E-cadherin is an useful adjunctive marker to distinguish reactive mesothelial cells from the carcinoma cells in the body fluids.

Korean Journal of Dermatology 1981;19(1):99-103
We present a case of pemphigus vulgaris developed during pregnancy. The clinical features of this patient were similar to those of hetpes gestationis. By immunofluorescence studies we found that the patient's serum contained autoantibodies to intercellular substance of epidermis. Direct immunofluorescence microscopy of a perilesional skin also demontrated immunoglobulin deposition in the intercellular areas. Additionally we did in vitro C3 staining for further confirmation of the diagnosis but it was negative in basement membrane zone. This patient was initially treated with corticosteroid and azathioprine. Several months later gold compound was given instead of azathioprine and corticosteroid with good therapeutic response.

Korean Journal of Pathology 1995;29(6):811-814
Two cases of epidertnoid cyst of the ovary are added to the ten reported in the literature. This rare lesion is usually an incidental finding. Its main interest is in its histogenesis, which includes metaplasia of the coelomic surface epithelium, monophyletic development of teratoma, and metaplasia of the rete ovarii. We investigated two cases of epidertnoid cyst. Histologic examination of the cysts showed a thin lining of mature keratinizing squamous epithelium rectum: unaccompanied by skin appendages or other teratomatous elements.

Korean Journal of Dermatology 1982;20(1):121-125
Senile sebaceous hyperplasia refers to a benign enlargement of a normal sebaceous unit which is not uncommon in the old age group, and is characterized clinically by single or multiple small cream to yellowish round papules developed on the face, chiefly on the forehead and cheeks. A case of florid senile sebaceous hyperplasia developed in a 81-year-old man was presented. Because this disorder is one of the geriatric dermatoses and the average life span of our people is remarkably lengthened in recent years, we believe dermatologists should pay more attention to this kind of dermatosis.

Journal of the Korean Radiological Society 1993;29(3):453-456
The pattern of thickening of the extrahepatic bile duct on computed tomography was analysed in 30 cases with recurrent pyogenic cholangitis diagnosed by surgery (n=19) or clinical basis (n=11). The mean wall thickness of the extrahepatic bile duct was 3.3mm (range, 1-6.3mm). Diffuse thickening of the extrahepatic bile ductal wall was demonstrated in 26 of 30 cases. Diffuse thickening of the extrahepatic bile duct in recurrent pyogenic cholangitis may be differentiated from focal thickening of duct in a common duct cancer or pancreatic cancer.

The Korean Journal of Pain 2016;29(3):185-188
The 12th rib syndrome is a disease that causes pain between the upper abdomen and the lower chest. It is assumed that the impinging on the nerves between the ribs causes pain in the lower chest, upper abdomen, and flank. A 74-year-old female patient visited a pain clinic complaining of pain in her back, and left chest wall at a 7 on the 0-10 Numeric Rating scale (NRS). She had a lateral fixation at T12-L2, 6 years earlier. After the operation, she had multiple osteoporotic compression fractures. When the spine was bent, the patient complained about a sharp pain in the left mid-axillary line and radiating pain toward the abdomen. On physical examination, the 10th rib was not felt, and an image of the rib-cage confirmed that the left 10th rib was severed. When applying pressure from the legs to the 9th rib of the patient, pain was reproduced. Therefore, the patient was diagnosed with 9th rib syndrome, and ultrasound-guided 9th and 10th intercostal nerve blocks were performed around the tips of the severed 10th rib. In addition, local anesthetics with triamcinolone were administered into the muscles beneath the 9th rib at the point of the greatest tenderness. The patient's pain was reduced to NRS 2 point. In this case, it is suspected that the patient had a partial resection of the left 10th rib in the past, and subsequent compression fractures at T8 and T9 led to the deformation of the rib cage, causing the tip of the remaining 10th rib to impinge on the 9th intercostal nerves, causing pain.

9.Fatal Pulmonary Thromboembolism Associated with Prolonged Sitting at Computer.
Korean Journal of Legal Medicine 2004;28(2):64-66
A newly reported, variant form of venous thromboembolism (VTE), named as "eThrombosis"1), occurred to a patient who was a prolonged sitting position at computer. The patient fortunately recovered from the disease through the early diagnosis and treatment. Recently, the author experienced a new case of a 24-year-old Korean man who died due to "eThrombosis"after playing an internet computer game continuously for about 85 hours. Therefore, the author would like to warn heavy computer users of the risk of the "eThrombosis", as they might also have high risk factors based upon this case, and inform this at-risk group that sitting for a long time at the computer results in an immobility that is a new greater risk factor of life-threatening VTE.

10.Management of Gestational Diabetes Mellitus.
Hanyang Medical Reviews 2017;37(1):30-33
Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is a frequent medical problem during pregnancy. It is associated with an increased risk of complications for GDM mother and the offspring. There is increasing evidence that GDM may increase the risk of future type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease in mothers, and may also increase the risk of obesity and diabetes in children. Therefore GDM affects health for a lifetime. The International Association of Diabetes and Pregnancy Study Groups (IADPSG) proposed a new screening approach for pre-diagnosed diabetes at the first prenatal visit and diagnostic criteria for GDM in accordance with perinatal outcomes. Nonetheless, controversies still exist about these issues. There is a positive linear association between increasing maternal glucose at oral glucose tolerance testing and risk of important perinatal outcomes. In managing the GDM patients, an individualized medical approach is essential. If maternal glucose levels have increased, insulin can be used to achieve glycemic targets. Postpartum screening for diagnosing of diabetes is essential for women with previous GDM.
