Objective To compare the efficacy of spectral CT imaging and 64 slice CT in assessment of carotid artery atherosclerotic plaque. Methods Thirty-eight patients with carotid plaque were detected retrospectively in this study (plaque,n=46) by using spectral CT.The composition of atherosclerotic plaque was measured by iodine-based images,lipid-based images with spectral CT imaging.Intraplaque hemorrhae, lipid components were also evaluated on spectral CT imaging and compared with pathology and specimen.Statistical comparison was performed with the Kappa value,independent-sample t test and exact test. Results The degree of carotid artery stenosis was (63.3 ±3.1)% on spectral CT imaging whereas (61.6 ± 3.8) % on 64 slice CT.Two imaging modalities were in good consistency in evaluation of the degree of stenosis (Kappa=0.993,P<0.01).There was no statistical difference in detecting fibrous cap rupture on spectral CT imaging and 64 slice CT (12 plaques vs 11 plaques,respectively,P>0.05).Furthermore,spectral CT imaging showed 11 plaques within intraplaque hemorrhage, however,no case was found on 64 slice CT (P<0.05).The plaque iodine concentration were (6.365 ± 1.937) and (1.573 ±0.776) mg/cm3 with or without internal hemorrhage(t=16.39,P<0.05).Spectral CT imaging showed 9 plaques within intraplaque liquid whereas only 2 plaques showed intraplaque liquid on 64 slice CT (P<0.05).Twenty-eight plaques within calcification in the plaque were found on spectrl CT imaging and 27 on 64 slice CT(P>0.05).Conclusion Spectral CT imaging is a reliable tool in detecting intraplaque hemor-rhage and liquid component.

Objective To observe blood gas analysis of internal carotid artery and internal jugular vein to calculate the cerebral extraction of oxygen, and to investigate the relationship between oxyhemoglobin in internal jugular vein, cerebral extraction of oxygen, and the prognosis of patients with head injury. Method Seventy patients with acute severe head injury in ICU of Taizhou People Hospital were studied, and another 80 patients with mild head injury were enrolled as controls. Twenty-four hours after first aid such as keeping airway open and circulatory and ventilation support, and emergency craniotomy, the blood samples from internal carotid artery and internal jugular vein were collected for blood gas analysis including SaO2, PaO2, SjvO2, PJVO2 > PaCO2, PJVCO2, SaO2-SjvO2, Pa-jvCCO2, CaO2-CjvO2 and Ca-jvO2/CaCO2 (CEO2, cerebral oxygen extraction). Results There were significant differences in SjvO2, PjvO2, Sa-jvO2, Pa-jvO2 Ca-jvO2 and CEO2 between two groups. Conclusions The SjvO2 and CEO2 represent the cerebral oxygen uptake and oxygen consumption precisely, and they can be used to predict the outcome of patients with severe craniocerebral trauma commendabiy.

OBJECTIVE To investigate the infection status and drug resistance of Ureaplasma urealyticum(Uu) and Mycoplasma hominis(Mh) in local region.METHODS A total of 2042 genitourinary samples of NGU patients were detected for the presense of mycoplasma with culture and drug sensibility.RESULTS From them 881(43.1%) were infected with mycoplasma, including Uu infection(650cases,31.8%),Mh infection(74 cases,3.6%) and mixed infection of Uu plus Mh(157 cases,7.6%);significant differences of positive cultivation rate were found between the male and female and in different age groups.Among 18 antibiotics, the lowest resistance drugs were josamycin, doxycycline and clarithromycin(3.6%,4.1%,and 4.2%).The highest resistance drugs were ofloxacin, fleroxacin and thiamphenicol(38.2%,18.3% and 14.6%).CONCLUSIONS The infection of mycoplasma in local region is increasing.Mycoplasma has increasing resistance to the common antibiotic. The detection of drugs resistance of mycoplasma has an improtant significance in guiding clinical use of the drugs.

Objective To study the protective effect of lipoic acid (LA) on H9c2 cardiomyocytes hypoxia/reoxygenation injury model, and explore its relevant mechanism. Methods Eight strains of H9c2 cardiomyocytes, passaged after cultured to a full view, were divided into 3 groups:normoxia group, hypoxia/reoxygenation group and LA group. The cell survival rate, lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) activity, malondialdehyde (MDA) and heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) levels were detected and compared. Results The cell survival rates of H9c2 cardiomyocytes in hypoxia/reoxygenation group and LA group were significantly lower than those in normoxia group:(52.86 ± 6.39)%, (69.25 ± 7.63)%vs. (92.31 ± 7.82)%, while the cell survival rate of H9c2 cardiomyocytes in LA group was significantly higher than that in hypoxia/reoxygenation group, and there were statistical differences (P<0.01). The LDH activity and MDA in hypoxia/reoxygenation group and LA group were significantly higher than those in normoxia group:(286.37 ± 27.49), (209.72 ± 25.63) U/L vs. (126.32 ± 18.94) U/L, and (1.72 ± 0.06), (1.13 ± 0.07)μmol/L vs. (0.68 ± 0.06) μmol/L, while those data in LA group were significantly lower than those in hypoxia/reoxygenation group, and there were statistical differences (P<0.01). The HO-1 in hypoxia/reoxygenation group and LA group were significantly higher than that in normoxia group:(213.71 ± 18.94)%, (367.26 ± 23.07)%vs. (87.92 ± 19.23)%, and HO-1 in LA group was significantly higher than that in hypoxia/reoxygenation group, and there were statistical differences (P<0.01). Conclusions The LA plays a protective role on myocardial cell with hypoxia/reoxygenation injurythough increasing the level of HO-1 against oxidative stress.

Journal of Acupuncture and Tuina Science 2007;5(6):341-344
Objective: To investigate the effect of scalp point-through-point acupuncture on 200 kDa neurofilament protein (NF-200) in rats with acute cerebral infarction and explore its mechanism on nerve plasticity in cerebral infarction rats. Methods: Healthy male Wistar rats were randomly allocated to sham operation (Group A), model (Group B) and acupuncture (Group C) groups. A rat middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) model of cerebral ischemia was made. NF-200 mRNA was measured by reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) in each group on the 7th, 14th and 28th days. Results: The cerebral expression of NF-200 in group C was significantly different from those in groups A and B (P<0.05); there was a significant difference between groups C and B or A at different time windows (P<0.01),indicating that scalp point-through-point acupuncture could improve the cerebral expression of NF-200. Conclusion: Scalp point-through-point acupuncture can improve neural function, promote the recovery of limb function and increase the expression of NF-200 after cerebral ischemia, exerting a regulative effect on neuronal plasticity in the brain.
