Objective To investigate the effect of music electroacupuncture on perifocal ferric ions and neuronal apoptosis and the brain water content in rats with acute cerebral hemorrhage and explore the mechanism of its action on acute cerebral hemorrhage. Methods One hundred and twenty-eight healthy adult male Wister rats were randomized to normal, model, electroacupuncture and music electroacupuncture groups. In each group, four time points of 6 hrs, 24 hrs, 3 days and 7 days were set up, eight rats each time point. A rat model of acute cerebral hemorrhage was made using collagenase. In the electroacupuncture and music electroacupuncture groups, point Baihui was connected to the anode and point Taiyang to the cathode, 2 voltage was used as a selection parameter and electroacupuncture lasted 30 min. Intracerebral perifocal ferric ions and neuronal apoptosis and the brain water content were measured at four time points of 6 hrs, 24 hrs, 3 days and 7 days after model making. Results Intracerebral ferric ion content was higher in the model, electroacupuncture and music electroacupuncture groups of rats than in the normal group at 6 hrsafter model making (P<0.05), lower in the electroacupuncture and music electroacupuncture groups than in the model group at 24 hrs, 3 and 7 days after model making (P<0.05) and lower in the music electroacupuncture group than in the electroacupuncture group at 3 and 7 days after model making (P<0.05). Intracerebral neuronal apoptosis was higher in the model, electroacupuncture and music electroacupuncture groups of rats than in the normal group at 6 hrs after model making (P<0.05) and lower in the music electroacupuncture group than in the electro- acupuncture group at 7 days after model making (P<0.05). The brain water content was higher in the model, electro- cupuncture and music electroacupuncture groups of rats than in the normal group at 6 and 24 hrs after model making (P<0.05), lower in the electroacupuncture and music electroacupuncture groups than in the model group at 3 days after model making (P<0.05) and lower in the music electroacupuncture group than in the electroacupuncture group at 7 days after model making (P<0.05).Conclusions Music electroacupuncture has a benign regulating effect on intracerebral perifocal ferric ions, inhibits neuronal apoptosis around hematoma in the early stage and reduces cerebral edema in rats with acute cerebral hemorrhage. Its therapeutic effect is superior to that of electroacupuncture.

In order to study the influence of high temperature and high humidity on the vital signs after craniocerebral missile wound(CMW), CMW was produced in 32 cats according to the method of Carey. Then they were placed in a cabin with respective environmental temperature and humidity of 25℃ and 50%,35℃ and 85%,38℃ and 90% or 40℃ and 95%(as group A, B, C, D).The vital signs and mortality rate were recorded. There were little changes in group A, a slow elevation in group B, but obvious changes in groups C and D. There was no death in groups A and B in 8 hours. All cats in group C died in 5 hours, and also in 2 5 hours in group D. The results suggested that an environment of high temperature and high humidity was detrimental to survival of cats inflicted with CMW, and measures should be taken to alleviate these detimental effects in the treatment of CMW.

BACKGROUND:The good rotational alignment of femoral prosthesis was very important in total knee arthroplasty. The research has shown that the posterior condylar angle was important to determine the alignment. The posterior condylar angle is the angle between the posterior condylar axis and the femoral epicondylar axis. MRI can clearly show the condylar cartilage, the projections of lateral epicondyle and the medial epicondyle depression, thus ensuring accuracy of measurement data. OBJECTIVE:To measure the posterior condylar angle of knee joint in the northern part of Baoding City in China, and to provide image evidence for identifying the rotational alignment of femoral prosthesis during total knee arthroplasty. METHODS:The knee was extended on a neutral position when MRI machine was applied to scan knee joint. The scanning plane was perpendicular to the mechanical axis of the knee. The best T1 axial plane of the knee was chosen, and two observers analyzed images independently. Existence rate of femoral medial epicondyle was observed using Bravo viewer 6.0 imaging software. The posterior condylar angle between posterior condylar axis and the femoral condyle axis was measured. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:The posterior condylar angle was (2.73±1.28)° in males and (2.35±1.37)° in females on average, which did not show significant difference. The results showed that the MRI had great superiority in measuring the posterior condylar angle. The variability of the epicondylar axis was smal in total knee arthroplasty. Posterior condylar angle can be referenced to position femoral prosthesis and to avoid the complications after knee replacement.

BACKGROUND:Crainocerebral missile wound (CMW) is the common severe trauma of war. Environmental factor is the important factor that aggravates the development of sickness and threatens the life of the sick and wounded at early stage. The study on basic theory and treatment of CMW under hyperthermia and high-humidity is the major task in military medicine.OBJECTIVE: To observe the characters of bacterial growth in wound cavity and peripheral tissue after CMW in cats under hyperthermia and high-humidity so as to provide the reference data to the tissue repair and its functional recovery in CMW.DESIGN: Randomized controlled experiment.SETTING: Surgery Department of Neurology in Zhujiang Hospital affiliated to Southern Medical University(First Military Medical University).MATERIALS: The experiment was performed in Department of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene in Southern Medical University from April to May 2003. In the experiment, 24 hybrid cats were employed, of clean grade, of either sex, body-weighted (2.5±0.2) kg, provided from Experimental Animal Center of Southern Medical University. The animals were randomized into 4 groups, named the control at common temperature (5 cats), common temperature group (8 cats), hyperthermia and high-humidity group (8 cats) and blank control (3 cats).METHODS: After weighted, the cat was injected abdominally with 30 g/L pentobarbitol sodium solution at 30 mg/kg. After successful establishment of craniocerebral blindgut wound model, in common temperature group, the cats were placed in simulated climatic cabin at 25 ℃ and 50% relevant humidity for 6 hours and in hyperthermia and high-humidity group, the cats were placed in the hyperthermia and high-humidity environment for 6 hours. With biopsy, the fragmented brain tissue in wound tract and the brain tissue on the wall of wound tract far from 0-5 mm and 5-10 mm were collected and preparedinto successively natural solution and homogenate, and counting was done in 24 hours of bacterial culture to calculate bacterial content in wound cavity and peripheral tissue. In blank control, the cats were sacrificed with anesthesia and the material was collected directly, the rest steps were same as the control at common temperature.MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Bacterial content in wound cavity and peripheral tissue in each group.RESULTS: Totally 23 animals were employed in outcome analysis. Bacterial contents in same regions were different remarkably in different groups (F=171.423, P=0.000). It was indicated in paired comparison that significant difference happens between the control at common temperature, common temperature group and hyperthermia and high-humidity group and blank control successively (P < 0.01). The difference was not significant in the comparison among the control at common temperature, common temperature group and hyperthermia and high-humidity group (P > 0.05). Bacterial contents at different distances from the wound cavity were different remarkably in each group (F=14.865, P = 0.000).CONCLUSION: Hyperthermia and high-humidity does not impact significantly the bacterial growth of CMW in 6 hours and bacterial reproduction has not entered high-rate increasing stage yet, due to which, it is still safe for debridement repair.

Objective To investigate the relationship between different expression of gastrocolic omentum visfatin (VF) mRNA and gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) in late trimester pregnancy. Methods One hundred cases of pregnant women in late trimester were divided into two groups, including 45 GDM women( GDM group) and 55 normal glucose tolerance women( NGT group). Semi-quantitative RT-PCR was applied to determine the expression of VF mRNA in gastrocolie omentum. Fast-blood glucose, insulin, cholesterol(TC) and triglyceride (TG) levels were measured. The progestational body mass index(BMI) and the homeostasis model assessment(HOMA) insulin resistance(IR) were calculated in these cases. Results The expression of gastrocolic omentum VF mRNA in GDM group and NGT group were 0.8 ±0.4,0.5±0.3. Fast-blood glucose levels were(4.12±0.14),(3.65±0.13) mmol/L. Insulin levels were (72±5) ,(61±5) pmo]/L TG levels were (5.6±0.3), (3.8±0.3) mmol/L TC levels were(5.6±0.9 ), (3.9±0.3) mmol/L HOMA-IR were 12.5±5.9,9.5±0.8. The progestatianal BMIs were(22.6±0.8), (20.9±0.4) kg/m2. All the indices in the GDM group were significantly higher than NGT group (P<0.05). Furthermore, the expression of gastrocolic omentum VF mRNA had a positive correlation with BMI (r=0.32, P<0.01), but had no association with insulin resistance or metabolic parameters. Conclusion The experiment demonstrates that different expression of VF mRNA has a strong correlation with GDM and obesity.

BACKGROUND: Type Ⅰ collagen is a specific collagen secreted by in vitro cultured osteoblast, and the formed network is the basis of bone mineralization, which also reflects the ability of osteoblast bone formation. Studies have shown astragalus root increased osteoblast proliferation. However, the effect of astragalus root on improving type Ⅰ collagen expression of osteoblast remains poorly understood.OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the effect of astragalus root injection on the abilities of rat cranium-derived osteoblast proliferation and type Ⅰ collagen expression.METHODS: Rat osteoblast was cultured in vitro and divided into control group (MEM culture solution containing calf serum) and astragalus root groups (different concentrations). The effect on osteoblast proliferation was evaluated on days 1, 3, 5, 7, and 9 by MTT method. Moreover, the expression of type Ⅰ collagen protein was observed after 6 hours of treatment with astragalus root injection using in cell western-blot method. In addition, the gene expression of COLLal was investigated by real-time PCR method.RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: From days 3 to 9, the different concentrations of astragalus root injection improved osteoblast proliferation, respectively compared with control group (P < 0.05), and this ascending trend peaked on day 7. Different concentretions of astragalus root injection improved COLLol mRNA expression, especially 15% astragalus root injection was the most effective. The type Ⅰ collagen protein expression of 15% and 10% astragalus root injection were significantly greater compared with the control group (P < 0.05). Astragalus root injection improved in vitro cultured osteoblast proliferation and type Ⅰ collagen secretion in a certain dose-effect manner.
