Journal of Clinical Otorhinolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery 2009;(16):749-751
Objective:Tiapride has been used effectively in the clinic for the treatment of dyskinesias and tic disorders including Tourette syndrome. The purpose of the retrospective study is to evaluate the effectiveness of tiapride with the horn of saiga tatarica in treatment of hemifacial spasm. Method:Twenty-eight patients with idio-pathic hemifacial spasm, who were previously treated with carbamazepine, or acupuncture, or botulinum toxin injection, but refused to continue the previous therapies, were treated with tiapride, at a dosage of 50 mg /time once to thrice per day, combined with the horn of saiga tatarica at a dosage of 0. 15 g to 0. 30 g/time once per day. The dosage of tiapride can been up to 100 mg/time once to thrice per day in some cases if necessary. The effectiveness of the therapy was evaluated from the time of three months after the beginning of the treatment. The main efficacy parameter was the degree of spasm reduction, that is, the classification of spasm before versus after the treatment. Result:The duration of following up is between 3 months and 12 months. Twenty-five cases out of 28 patients have demonstrated a significant reduction of spasm. Of which, eight cases were completely relieved, 12 cases marked relieved and 5 cases partially relieved. The effective rate is 89. 29%. Conclusion:Tiapride combined with the horn of saiga tatarica was effective and safe in reducing hemifacial spasm. However, further data from blinded trials and long-term following up are required before this treatment can be considered to be one of the main medical treatment options for hemifacial spasm.

Chinese Pediatric Emergency Medicine 2014;21(6):362-365
Objective To investigate the value of brainstem auditory evoked potential (BAEP) in early diagnosis of severe hand, foot and mouth disease (HFMD) with the nervous system damage. Methods BAEP was performed in 297 cases with HFMD.The patients were divided into 4 groups by the HFMD clinical classification and their ages.Group A included the general cases who were younger than three years (n =80).Group B included the severe cases who were younger than three years(n =94).Group C included the general cases who were three years or older(n =38).Group D included the severe cases who were three years or older(n =85).The electroencephalogram (EEG) and MRI results of patients in the groups were retrospectively studied and the results were compared with that of BAEP.Results (1) The BAEP abnormal rate of group B (18/94,19.15%)was higher than that of group A (3/80,3.75%),and the BAEP abnormal rate of group D (13/85,15.29%) was higher than that of group C (1/38,2.63%) (P < 0.05).(2) The EEG abnormal rate in group B was low(2/94,2.13%) and there was no case with abnormal EEG in group A.(3) The EEG abnormal rate of group D (49/85,57.65%) was higher than that of group C (6/38,15.79%) (P <0.05),and higher than the BAEP abnormal rate of group D.(4) The MRI abnormal rate of group B (9/94,9.57%) was higher than that of group A (1/80,1.25%) (P < 0.05),and the MRI abnormal rate of group D (9/85,10.59%)was higher than that of group C (0).(5) The BAEP abnormal rate of the children with severe HFMD (31/179,17.32%) was higher than the MRI abnormal rate (18/179,10.06%) (P <0.05).Conclusion BAEP has clinical significance for early diagnosis of severe HFMD with nervous system damage, and can provide objective basis for the diagnosis.

Objective To investigate the relationship between wound suture and incision complications in acute gastrointesti -nal tract incision .Methods Patients with abdominal surgery ( acute digestive tract perforation , and acute intestinal obstruction ) were divided into two groups .The differences between two suture methods were compared with the indicators such as operative time , incision complications, and hospital stay, etc. Results There were no significant differences between two groups (12.5%vs 20%) in incision complications ( P >0.05 );while there were differences in the postoperative hospital stay between two groups .The hospital stay of the intradermalsubcutaneoussuturegroup(13.54±7.32)dweresignificantlyshorterthanthatoftraditionalgroup(18.11±11.67)d(P<0.05 ) .Conclusions Wound intradermal subcutaneous suture was superior to traditional suture in acute gastrointestinal tract inci -sion.No significant difference was found between two groups in incision complications , but wound intradermal subcutaneous suture had significantly shorter postoperative hospital stay .

Objective To observe the influence of Cichorii extract on uric acid and lipid metabolic disorder and discuss the mechanism. Methods Quails were divided randomly into 5 groups by weight:normal group, model group, positive control group and Cichorii extract high and low dosage group,15 quails in each group. The normal group was fed with the common feeder, and the other groups were fed with the yeast powder. Positive control group was given Benzbromarone 20 mg/(kg?d). Cichorii extract high and low dosage group were given Cichorii extract 15,10 g/(kg?d) respectively. Normal and model group were given distilled water. UA,TG,FFA,TC,HDL,LDL level and XOD,ADA,GD activity related to uric acid metabolism were determined after 7 days. Results Compared with normal group,UA,TG,FFA of model group was significantly higher and HDL was significantly lower. Compared with model,Cichorii extract decreased UA,TG,FFA significantly. GD activity in model group increased significantly. Cichorii extract decreased GD activity. There was no significant variance of XOD and ADA activity in each group. Conclusion Cichorii extract had obvious effect in adjusting uric acid and lipid metabolic disorder. The possible mechanism was by decreasing GD activity and decreasing UA,FFA level.

Journal of Huazhong University of Science and Technology (Medical Sciences) 2011;31(5):602-7
The expression and significance of osteopontin (OPN) and NF-κB in patients with thoracic aortic aneurysm (TAA) and abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) were investigated. Thirteen TAA specimens, 20 AAA specimens and 6 normal aortic specimens were collected. The expression of OPN, nuclear factor-κB P65 (NF-κB P65), urokinase plasminogen activator (uPA), matrix metalloproteinase-2 (MMP-2) and matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9) were detected by using immunohistochemistry and Western blotting was employed to determine the expression of OPN and NF-κB P65. Immunohistochemical results showed that the expression of OPN, NF-κB P65, uPA, MMP-2 and MMP-9 was positive in all TAA and AAA specimens and negative in normal specimens, with the difference being statistically significant (P<0.05). There was no difference in the expression between TAA and AAA specimens (P>0.05). Correlation analysis revealed that there existed a positive correlation between the expression of OPN and that of NF-κB P65, uPA, MMP-2 and MMP-9 and between the expression of NF-κB P65 and that of uPA, MMP-2, MMP-9 (P<0.05). Western blotting demonstrated that OPN and NF-κB P65 were positive in AAA and TAA specimens, and negative in normal specimens with the differences being statistically significant (P<0.05). There were no statistically significant differences in the expression of OPN and NF-κB P65 between AAA and TAA specimens (P>0.05). It was concluded that OPN and NF-κB P65 were involved in the pathogenesis of TAA and AAA. OPN can up-regulate the expression of MMP and uPA via NF-κB signaling pathway thereby accelerating the degradation of extracellular matrix and playing an important role in the pathogenesis and development of TAA and AAA.
