1.Research progress of interleukin-6 playing neuroprotective effects on retinal ganglion cells
Chinese Journal of Experimental Ophthalmology 2015;33(10):957-960
Recently, the risk factors for glaucoma is not very clear, a variety of mechanisms, such as increased intraocular pressure, ischemia, deprivation of neurotrophic factors, glial cells activation, glutamate excitatory reactions can promote glaucomatous retinal ganglion cells (RGCs) apoptosis.Through the intervention of nerve cells apoptosis pathway to prevent RGCs damage has become the focus of treatment of glaucoma optic protection. In recent years, studies have shown that interleukin-6 (IL-6) secreted by astrocytes and microglia has the same effect with ciliary neurotrophic factor (CNTF), which can stimulate axon growth and improve the survival rate of RGCs after optic nerve injury and intraocular inflammation.Optic nerve injury and inflammation can induce the expression of IL-6 in retina.IL-6 binds to its receptor expressed in RGCs, activates the Janus kinase (JAK)/signal transducer and activator of transcription (STAT) pathway that up-regulates expression of heat shock proteins, reduces myelin disinhibition of axon regeneration in the optic nerve, resists apoptosis factors, such as tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) and NO, induces regeneration-associated genes expression such as Sprr1a, Gap43, and promotes axon growth. This paper took the relevant researches of IL-6 playing neuroprotective effects on RGCs for a review.
2.The impact of self-perceived masticatory function on nutrition and gastrointestinal function in the elderly patients
Chinese Journal of Practical Nursing 2013;(8):46-47
Objective To evaluate the impact of masticatory function on malnutrition and gastrointestinal symptoms in senile patients. Methods Dental status and denture quality in 120 senile patients were investigated with questionnaires, and thecorrelation of masticatory ability with nutritional status and gastrointestinal symptoms were evaluated. Results The nutritional status of elderly patients was correlated with the condition of the denture, but not correlated with the number of denture and chewing ability.Gastrointestinal disconffort had correlation with masticatory function, chewing problems, difficulty in chewing and food limit, but chewing function was highly correlated with taking gastrointestinal drugs. Conclusions The chewing ability and nutritional status is not relevant, but since elderly patients with weakened chewing ability avoid certain foods, thus gastrointestinal discomfort and symptoms of gastrointestinal disorders such as medication increased.

Objective To measure the related anatomical parameters of lumbosacral nerve root and adjacent structures by magnetic resonance neurography, and to analyze operative safety of transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion in Chinese people. Methods A total of 12 healthy volunteers, including 6 males and 6 females, underwent magnetic resonance neurography of lumbosacral nerve root using a Siemens 3.0T MRI machine. The Osirix software was used to reconstruct the three-dimensional imaging and measure the following anatomic parameters: 1) the distance between the nerve root and the superior pedicle; 2) the distance between the nerve root and the inferior pedicle; 3) the angle between the nerve root and the sagittal plane; 4) the distance between the superior and inferior nerve roots; 5) the distance between the superior and inferior pedicles. Results L1-L5 nerve roots got a good imaging by magnetic resonance neurography in all 12 volunteers. The distance between the nerve root and the superior pedicle and the angle between the nerve root and the sagittal plane gradually became smaller from L1 to L5.But the variation in the distance between the nerve root and the inferior pedicle and the distance between the superior and inferior pedicles was not obvious. The distance between the nerve root and the inferior pedicles, which was closely related to the operating space of TLIF,ranged from (8.99±0.88) mm to (10.72±1.01) mm for males and from (7.76±0.46) mm to (8.54±0.65) mm for females; it was less than 10 mm in each segments in the majority of subjects, and the data of females was significantly smaller than that of males. No significant differences were found in parameters between the left and right sides in the same segment. Conclusion Based on the above anatomical study and measurement analysis,we believe that there is some harassment to the upper nerve root in TLIF for Chinese patients, and for some patients there is a certain injury risk.

OBJECTIVETo study the influences of different processing methods on the content of Angelica sinensis polysaccharides (APS) from the same origin.
METHODThe contents of neutral polysaccharides and acidic polysaccharides in various samples of A. sinensis were determined by phenol-sulfuric acid and carbazole-sulfuric acid method, respectively. The proliferation ability of lymphocyte was detected by MTT method after the cells were cultured with different concentrations of APS from two samples processed by different methods.
RESULTThe different processing methods had different effects on the contents of polysaccharide. The maximum content of APS (26.03%) was found in the sample processed by microwave drying medium-fired, but the minimum content of APS (2.25%) was found in the sample processed by vacuum drying at 50 TC. Furthermore, the APS (high concentration group, P < 0.01) processed by microwave drying medium-fired could both accelerate proliferation of spleen lymphocytes directly and increase proliferation of T cells of mice induced by Con A. However, the APS processed by far-infrared drying did not show conspicuous immune enhancement activity.
CONCLUSIONDifferent processing methods have different effects on the contents of APS and the proliferation ability of lymphocytes.

Objective:To explore the predictive value of Red Blood Cell Distribution Width (RDW) in predicting the prognosis of patients with Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO).Methods:The clinical data of patients undergoing ECMO admitted to Intensive Care Unit of Sichuan Provincial People’s Hospital from January 2015 to January 2020 were retrospectively analyzed. Patients were divided into the survival group and death group according to the prognosis during ICU hospitalization. The patients' basic data , acute physiology and chronic health score system Ⅱ (APACHE Ⅱ), RDW and activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT) at 72 hours after treatment with ECMO were compared between the two groups. Univariate and Logistic regression multivariate analyses were used to analyze the prognostic factors of patients with ECMO, predictive models and death warning scores were established. The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was plotted to evaluate the diagnostic efficacy of RDW and death warning scores for the prognosis of patients with ECMO.Results:A total of 71 patients with ECMO who met the inclusion criteria were included, including 38 patients in the death group and 33 patients in the survival group. The age, APACHE-Ⅱscore, 72 h RDW and 72 h APTT in the death group were higher than those in the survival group. Respectively, the hospitalization time of ICU in the death group was significantly lower than that in the survival group ( P< 0.05). Logistic regression analysis showed that APACHE-Ⅱscore ( OR=1.117, P=0.047)、72 h RDW( OR=1.102, P=0.029) and 72 h APTT ( OR=1.049, P=0.029) were independent risk factors for death in patients with ECMO. ROC curve analysis showed that the area under ROC curve (AUC) of the APACHE-Ⅱ, score 、72 h RDW and 72 h APTT were 0.691, 0.691 and 0.632( P<0.05), Respectively, the combined AUC was 0.764, the sensitivity was 0.526, and the specificity was 0.909. The death warning score of patients with ECMO was established according to the Predictive model , which is less than 2 points with low risk of death and more than 2 points with high risk of death. The area under the ROC curve of death warning score is 0.8, the sensitivity is 0.607 and the specificity is 0.923. Conclusions:The RDW at 72 hours after treatment with ECMO has a good value in predicting the prognosis of patients with ECMO. Besides, a greater predictive value for the prognosis of patients with ECMO by combining 72 hours RDW, 72 hours APTT with APACHE-Ⅱscore than that of any separate indicator.
