Objective To investigate the systemic effects of Helicobacter pylori (Hp) infection by comparing differential counts of leukocytes in peripheral blood and C-reactive protein (CRP) levels before and after eradication of Hp. Method A total of 158 Hp-positive patients underwent eradication by standard one-week triple therapy were divided into Hp eradicated group(n = 108) and Hp non-eradicated group(n = 50),the populations of peripheral blood leukocytes and CRP levels before and 0 (just after therapy),1 and 12 months after eradication were retrospectively analysed. Results In the eradicated group, blood leukecytes, neutrophils and monocytes decreased significantly after eradication, and the CRP levels were significantly lower than the levels before treatment (P < 0.05 ),but there was no significant change in eosinophils, basophils and lymphecytes (P > 0.05).In the non-eradicated group, there was no significant change in any studied pa-rameter (P > 0.05). Conclusion These findings suggest that Hp infection increase blood leukocytes,neu-trophil and monocyte counts in the peripheral blood and CRP levels, which indicates a significant role of Hp infection in systemic disorders.

Essential hypertension (EH), a complex polygenic disease, is considered to the result of the genetic interaction of multiple gene alterations in concert with environmental factors. Evidences showed that angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) gene and G protein beta3 subunit (GNB3) gene are both important susceptibility genes for EH, and that there exists putative biological connection between the two genes in developing hypertension. To investigate whether hypertension was affected by gene-gene interaction between the two genes in the northern Chinese Han population, a case-control association study including 502 hypertensive cases and 490healthy controls was conducted, selecting the ACE gene I/D polymorpinsm and the GNB3 gene C825T polymorphism. Linkage disequilibrium analysis revealed a significant nonrandom distribution only in male hypertensives, indicating that interaction between ACE gene and GNB3 gene may predispose males to the occurrence of hypertension. Multivariate stepwise logistic regression in single locus analysis, with adjustment for common risk factors for hypertension, demonstrated that the OR for DD/ID versus Ⅱ for hypertension among men was significant (OR 1.57; 95% CI, 1.09 ~2.27; P = 0.016) in dominant genetic model. In combination analysis stratified with respect to gender, slightly significant ORs were found after adjustment in males: OR for TT vs CC, 0.11; 95%CI, 0.01 ~0.99; P = 0.049 within ACE DD genotype; OR for DD/ID vs Ⅱ, 1.52; 95% CI, 1.01 ~2.29; P = 0.047 within GNB3 CC+CT genotype. The results suggest that ACE, or a nearby gene, is a male-specific susceptible gene for hypertension, and that there may exist epistatic gene-gene interaction between ACE D allele and GNB3 825C allele.

Objective To detect the pre- and post-treatment levels of serum interleukin (IL-20) in asthmatic patients during the acute exacerbation period and to investigate the role of IL-20 in the pathogenesis of bronchial asthma and relative clinical significance. Methods Forty-five cases of mild to moderate asthma outpatients in the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangxi Medical University from May 2013 to October 2013 were chosen as the asthma group and 32 healthy people who underwent routine physical examination as the control group. All the patients were treated with inhalation salmeterol and fluticasone 50/250 μg/μg (sucking twice a day) together with ventolin if necessary , and even with theophylline sustained-release tablets as the additional treatment in moderate asthma group for 1 week. The serum levels of IL-20 as well as immunoglobulin E (IgE) were detected by ELISA in the asthma group before and after treatment as well as in the control group. Other data including ECP , the number of eosinophil ceils (EOS) and the pulmonary function (FEV1%) were detected as well. The differences of IL-20 levels between the asthma group before and after treatment and the control group were analyzed and the correlation between IL-20 and Ig E, EOS, ECP and FEV1% were analyzed. Results Compared with the healthy control group [(13.58 ± 6.17)pg/L], the levels of IL-20 in the mild and moderate asthma pretreatment group were significantly increased [(23.43 ± 13.60)pg/L and (33.78 ± 22.69)pg/L]. Compared with the mild asthma group, the levels of IL-20 in the moderate asthma pretreatment group were significantly higher. After treatment , the levels of IL-20 [(15.73 ± 8.27)pg/L and (19.64 ± 11.69)pg/L] were decreased respectively in the asthmatic patients. The Pearson correlative analysis showed that there were positive correlations between the levels of 1L-20 and IgE , EOS and ECP respectively and there were negative correlations between IL-20 levels and FEV1%. Conclusion IL-20 may be involved in the pathogenesis of asthma.
