Aurora-B as an important kinase to adjust the cell normal mitosis is a potent target for cancer treatment. Aurora-B is overexpressed in a broad range of tumor and tumor cells are more sensitive while Aurora-B is inhibited. Due to the key role of the Aurora-B in cell mitosis, the development of its inhibitors is becoming more and more important. Several small molecules inhibit with a similar efficacy both Aurora-A and Aurora-B, however, in most cases the effects resemble Aurora-B disruption by genetic methods, indicating that Aurora-B represents an effective therapeutic target. There were several Aurora-B kinase inhibitors which had entered the clinics and displayed good antitumor activity. In this review, we will outline the functions of Aurora kinase B in normal cell division and in malignancy. We will focus on recent preclinical and clinical studies that have explored the mechanism of action and clinical effect of Aurora-B inhibitors in cancer treatment.

Objective:To explore the causes and preventive measures of early complications after free gracilis muscle transfer in reconstruction of brachial plexus injury, and to improve the postoperative function of the transferred gracilis muscle. Methods:Patients were recruited from August, 2005 to December, 2016. All 111 patients of brachial plexus injury underwent reconstructive surgery using 122 free gracilis flaps. Early postoperative complications, including recipient site, donor site and systemic complications, were closely observed and recorded. Outcome measurements included incidence and timing of flap compromise, type of flap compromise, causes of vascular occlusion and salvage rate. The postoperative strength of gracilis was evaluated according to the BMRC score. The data were statistically analyzed. The difference was statistically significant if P<0.05. Results:The survival rate of 122 free gracilis transfers was 98.4% (120/122). Early complications occurred in 32 cases (including 2 complications in 6 patients) : 27 cases with recipient site complications (84.4%), 4 with donor site complications and 7 with systemic complications. Among the 32 cases of complications, 17 flap compromises caused by vascular obstruction and 15 of them were salvaged completely after exploration. Flap crisis was the main issue that affected the postoperative function of gracilis muscle, and 58.8% (10/17) of patients with vascular crisis showed muscle strength above M 3 after surgery. The main causes of vascular crisis were venous tortuosity and venous thrombosis, which had nothing to do with operation time and intraoperative blood loss. Conclusion:Flap crisis is the main factor affecting the postoperative function of gracilis. The rate of flap salvage can be tremendously increased by early detection, re-exploration and effective management of the flap crisis.

Objective To investigate the effect of combination of ganglioside and hyperbaric oxygen on spastic cerebral palsy. Methods 128 infants with spastic cerebral palsy were divided into treatment group (n=70) and control group (n=58), who received ganglioside and hyperbaric oxygen or cytidine diphosphate choline. The infants in the treatment group were divided into young group (6~12 months, n=38) and old group (1~3 years, n=32) according to their age. They were assessed with Ashworth scale and Functional Independence Measure (FIM) before and 3 courses after treatment. Results The scores of Ashworth scale and FIM improved more in the treatment group than in the control group (P<0.01) after treatment, as well as in the young group than in the old group (P<0.01). Conclusion The combination of ganglioside and hyperbaric oxygen is effective on spasticity and activities of daily living in infants with spastic cerebral palsy. The younger the infants are, the more effective it is.

Objective To observe the changes of nitric oxide (NO) levels in plasma during cardiopul-monary resuscitation (CPR) and to compare the effects of aminoguanidine (AG) and NG-nitro-L-arginine methyl ester (L-NAME) on CPR. Method This was a prospective, randomized animal study performed at the Function Laboratory of Lanzhou University. Cardiac arrest was electrically induced and was left untreated for 5 min. After performing chest compression for 1 min, 40 domestic rabbits were divided into four groups (n = 10) to receive ei-ther 20 mg/kg AG, 25 mg/kg L-NAME, 0.02 mg/kg epinephrine or 2 ml saline placebo before defibrillation. Successfully resuscitated rabbits were observed for a further 4 h. Hernodynamics variables and cardiac functions were monitored with appropriate instrumentation. Arterial blood NO levels were examined at baseline, at the end of 1 min chest compression and at 15, 30, 60 and 120 min after survival. Repeated measures analysis of variance was used to determine statistical significance between groups. Results During chest compression, the mean + stan-dard deviation coronary perfusion pressure was higher in the AG group (40±10 mmHg) than in the L-NAME group (34±8 mmHg; P =0.001) and was higher in both groups with the control group (20±5 mmHg; both P =0.000). Left ventricular + dp/dtmax and- dp/dtmax were higher in the AG group than in the L-NAME group. In the surviving rabbits, the left ventricular + dp/dtmax and - dp/dtmax were higher in the AG and L-NAME groups than in the epinephrine and control groups and were higher in the AG group (4783±912, 4409±827 mmHg/s)than in the b-NAME group (3554±847, 3398±764 mmHg/s; P = 0.001 and 0.023, respectively). Conclu-sions Both AG and L-NAME increased the coronary perfusion pressure, and improved left ventricular systolic and diastolic function during CPR and prevented post-resuscitation myocardial dysfunction. However, AG was signifi-canfly superior to L-NAME.
