1.Implant anchorage and Damon Ⅲ combined use for distal movement of maxillary teeth

1 5 cases,5 males and 1 0 females,aged 1 6-26 years,with ClassⅡdivision maxillary mild to moderate protrusion were includ-ed.Damon III appliance was used to arrange the upper and lower dentition.Stainless steel micro-screw implants were implanted in zygomatic crest to provide the best bone anchorage,stainless steel rectangular wire was used for maxillary complete dentition continuous ligation and maxillary teeth distal movement.X-ray cephalometry study showed that U1-NA(°)reduced by 2.51 ±1 .52(P<0.01 ),U1-NA(mm)re-duced by 4.56 ±1 .25,UL-EP(mm)reduced by 2.21 ±1 .83,U6E-PTV(mm)reduced by 2.93 ±1 .1 7,U6A-PTV(mm)reduced by 1 .56 ±0.95,SNA(°)and the mandibular parameters were not significantly changed(P>0.05),centric jaw relation of bilateral molar was obtained.
2.Different imprinting status of IGF-2 in epithelial ovarian tumors.

To explore whether the imprinting status of IGF-2 in the malignant epithelial ovarian tumors is different from that in benign tumors, the target sequences (DNA and RNA) which contain a polymorphism site for ApaI restriction endonuclease digestion were amplified with PCR and RT-PCR methods. Then the PCR/RT-PCR products were digested by ApaI. The IGF-2 transcriptional pattern came out from the results of endonucleases digestion. Among the 36 cases of benign epithelial ovarian tumors, 20 were heterozygous for ApaI locus and all showed genomic imprinting. While in the malignant group, 22 were heterozygous for ApaI locus but six were found to lose imprinting. Significant differences existed between the two groups (P < 0.05). Loss of imprinting of IGF-2 may serve as a marker for differentiating the malignant ovarian cancers from the benign ones. In a new field of molecular genetics, our research provides an experimental basis for genetic diagnosis and treatment of the ovarian cancers.

3.Fabrication and evaluation of hydroxyapatite-chitosan scaffold via simulated body fluid biomimetic mineralization.

OBJECTIVEThis research aimed to fabricate a hydroxyapatite (HA)-chitosan scaffold via simulated body fluid (SBF) biomimetic mineralization and determine how mineralization time affects scaffold construction and cell compatibility.
METHODSThe HA-chitosan scaffolds were fabricated by freeze-drying technique and then subjected to precalcification, also known as alternative soaking method. Afterward, precalcificated scaffolds were placed into the SBF to conduct the mineralization process. Mineralization time was set at 7, 14, and 21 days, corresponding to three experimental groups. Pure chitosan scaffolds acted as the control group, and the physical and chemical properties of the four groups were tested. Osteogenic-induced adipose-derived stem cells (ADSCs) were seeded into the scaffolds to investigate the scaffolds' cell compatibility.
RESULTSThe mineral substance of the 14-day group exhibited a uniform distribution. The crystal composition of the mineral substance suited the HA's features. The compressive elastic modulus increased along with the extension of mineralization time. The 21-day group showed a statistically significant increase in compressive elastic modulus compared with the control group (P < 0.05). The cell proliferation level of the 14-day group was significantly the highest among the three experimental groups (P < 0.05). The calcium ion and the type I collagen had the highest secretion amount when the cells were seeded into the 14-day group.
CONCLUSIONThe SBF biomimetic mineralization method can be used to fabricate HA-chitosan bone-tissue-engineering scaffolds. The biological compatibility, as well as the chemical and physical properties, reached the optimum levels at day 14.

4.The analysis of tooth movement in the orthodontic treatment by Empower appliance following tooth extraction

Objective:To study the tooth movement in the orthodontic treatment by Empower appliance following tooth extraction. Methods:40 cases with bimaxillary dentoalveolar protrusion were divided into 2 groups(n =20).After extraction of all first premolars of each case,the patients were treated by Empower appliance and Damon3-Mx appliance respectively without palatal enhance measure. Before and after treatment the patients were examined by cephalometric roentgengraphy with 1 9 measurements,the data were analysed by independent sample t test.Results:Tooth indicators∠UI-SN,∠UI-PP,∠L1 -MP,∠U1 -L1 ,UIE-PTV and LIE-PTV before and after the treatment in each group,and the variations between the 2 groups were significantly different(P <0.05).UM-PTV,LM-PTV, UIA-PTV,LIA-PTV,UL-EP,LL-EP and Z Angle were significant changed after treatment(P <0.05),no significant difference was found between the 2 groups after treatment(P >0.05).Conclusion:Empower appliance is more effective than Damon3-Mx in the treatment of bimaxillary dentoalveolar protrusion by anterior tooth torque control,upper and lower front teeth adduction and improvement of soft tissue lateral profile.
5.Experimental study of early gestation termination induced by low frequency ultrasound

Objective To investigate the availability of early gestation termination with low frequency ultrasound.Methods The 10th day rabbit embryos were irradiated with low frequency focused ultrasound of 6 different levels of sound intensity.The rates of embryonic mortality were observed and the expression of p53 was detected by using immunohistochemistry 10 days after the irradiating.Results The rates of embryonic mortalities were 25.00%,72.88 % and 100% with the intensity of 30 W/cm~2,35 W/cm~2 and 40 W/cm~2 for 60 seconds,respectively.The expression of p53 in placenta cells increased after irradiating,peaked at 96 hours,and recovered to control level at 192 hours.Conclusion It is feasible for early pregnancy termination with low frequency ultrasound.The low frequency ultrasound may induce the increased expression of p53 in placenta cells,but the expression may be recovered.
6.Age-related changes in condyle evaluated by cone-beam CT reconstruction

BACKGROUND: Cone-beam CT (CBCT) can show abnormal structures and shape of condyle, including thickened cortical bone and abnormal bone mineral density (BMD), which are closely associated with temporomandibular osteoarthrosis. How to identify the imaging changes of osteoarthrosis is a foundation to make correct diagnosis and treatment. However, there is still a lack of study on physiological changes of condyle in people with different ages and sexes.OBJECTIVE: To investigate the age-related changes of condyle using CBCT in poplulations with different ages and sexes.METHODS: CBCT data of 883 patients without temporomandibular osteoarthrosis were collected, and then divided into 22 groups by age (7-8, 9-10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26-27, 28-29, 30-35,36-40, 41-45), and the BMD of each point at the surface of condyle was measured using examvision software and analyzed statistically.RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: As age increases, the BMD of the anterior point and apex was increased and reached a peak, then kept on a stable stage, while showed a decreased tendency after 40 years old. The BMD of the posterior point was increased until a peak and then decreased, and became stable after 30 years old. The BMD of the anterior point and apex both was higher than that of the posterior point in male and female patients. The BMD of each point in females all was higher than that in males. Our results suggest that there are age-related changes in condyle BMD. The BMD on the functional surface is higher than that on the nonfunctional surface. Besides, the condyle development of in males is later than that in females, and all above findings provide reference for the diagnosis of temporomandibular osteoarthrosis.
7.Establishment and evaluation of method to collect rat gingival crevicular fluid by using absorbent paper points

Objective To establish and evaluate the method to collect the rat gingival crevicular fluid (GCF)by using absorbent paper points, and to lay foundation for analysis on GCF.Methods 20 healthy male rats were selected and randomly divided into GCF group and saliva group.The GCF of the right upper molar gingival trough of the rats in GCF group and the saliva of the rats in saliva group were collected by using 1 5# absorbent paper points.The SDS-PAGE analysis and abundance detection were applied to analyze the protein bands of the samples in two groups.Results The SDS-PAGE analysis identified the proteins at 77 000,66 000,55 000,51 000,and 28 000,especially 66 000 in GCF group.While saliva group had lower brightness protein bands at 66 000,60 000, and 48 000.The data of protein abundance of 66 000 between two groups had statistically significant difference (P<0.05).Conclusion The number and types of the protein bands are different between GCF Group and saliva group,so using 15# absorbent paper points can collect the rat GCF successfully.
8.Effect of semen quality on the embryo development.

To investigate the influences of sperm quality on the zygotes and embryos development, as the role of the paternal factor in early human embryogenesis is gaining more attention because of the application of techniques such as intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) for the treatment of men infertility. 136 infertility couples with men factors (Group I ) were included from May 2002 to January 2001. One hundred and seventy-two infertility couples with tube factors (Group II) served as controls. The sperm parameters, gemmates and embryos quality, implantation rate and pregnant rate in both groups were analyzed. It was found that there was no significant differences in the number of oocytes retrieved, the fertilization rate and number of embryos transferred between two groups. Sperm concentration, percentage of motile sperm and percentage of sperm with normal morphology were significantly lower in group I than in group II (P < 0.01). The proportion of good quality zygotes and good quality embryos were significantly lower in the male infertility group than in the tubal disease group (P < 0.05). Implantation rate and pregnancy rate were similar in two groups. It was concluded that spermatozoa is involved in the embryo quality, even in the early stages of development, which limited the treatment potency of IVF procedure.

9.Research of Acute Necrotizing Pancreatitis Associated with Diabetes Mellitus on Early Bacterial Translocation in Rat

[Objective] To explore whether diabetes mellitus (DM) can influence the early bacterial translocation (BT) and progression of acute necrotizing pancreatitis (ANP) for guiding the early clinical treatment.[Methods] 35 Wistar male rats were randomly allocated to 4 groups,Group ANP associatcd with DM (DM+ANP,n =10):DM underwent induction of ANP;Group DM (n =10):DM underwent laparotomy with only manipulation of the pancreas and duodenum;Group ANP (n =10):non-DM underwent induction of ANP;Group sham operation (SO,n =5):non-DM underwent SO.After 12 h of the induction of ANP or laparotomy,the following parameters were analyzed:bacterial culture and identification of portal vein blood,mesenteric lymph nodes (MLNs),pancreas and liver,and calculate the total incidence of BT;serum amylase and endotoxin levels of portal vein blood;histological assessment of pancreas and ileum lesions.[Results] All animals except 3 in group DM+ANP (mortality rates:30%) and 1 in group ANP (mortality rates:10%) survived the experiment.The total incidence of BT was 23/28 (82.1%) in group DM+ANP whereas 16/36 (44.4%) in group ANP (P =0.002).Gram-positive bacteria were 17/23 (73.9%),3/16 (18.8%) in group DM+ANP and group ANP,respectively (P =0.001).Amylase activity (2302 ± 346) U/L in group ANP increased significantly (P =0.000) compared with other groups.However,group DM+ANP (501 ± 142) U/L decreased significantly (P =0.001) in comparison to group SO.Regarding to endotoxin concentrations and the severity of pancreas and ileum lesions,group DM + ANP increased significantly compared with group ANP,group DM and group SO (P < 0.05).[Conclusion] Gram-positive bacteria translocates more frequently than Gram-negative bacteria in the early period of DM+ANP rats.DM aggravates the progression of ANP and increases early bacterial translocation,endotoxemia and severity of pancreas and ileum lesions.
10.Low and maternal-specific expression of p57KIP2 in hydatidiform mole and its clinical implication.

In situ hybridization was applied to locate and detect the expression of p57KIP2 in hydatidiform mole (5 cases of partial hydatidiform mole and 18 cases of complete hydatidiform mole) and normal villi (23 cases). The positive signals of p57KIP2 expression were analyzed by HPIAS-1000 Image-Analysis System. p57KIP2 was highly expressed in normal villi but showed distinct low expression in hydatidiform mole (P < 0.01). Furthermore, the locus of low expression of p57KIP2 accorded with the place where lesion of trophoblast occurred. Detection of p57KIP2 made it possible to study the genetics of hydatidiform mole at the transcriptional level. Low expression of p57KIP2 could be a molecular marker in hydatidiform mole and a target for therapy.
