Chinese Journal of Medical Aesthetics and Cosmetology 2010;16(6):401-403
Objective To investigate G. Pentaphyllums influence on the activity of glutathione peroxidase (GSH-PX) and catalase (CAT) in the skin of hireless photoaging mice, as well as the content of hydroxyproline (HYP). At the same time, G. Pentaphyllum's effect on the hireless photoaging mice was studied. Methods Healthy KM hireless mice were randomly divided into five groups. A skin photoaging model was established by G. Pentaphyllum administration. The changes of the activity of GSH-PX, CAT and the contents of dermal hydroxyproline in the skin were then measured by biochemical methods in each group of the experiment. Results In the model group, the activity of GSHPX, CAT and the content of HYP of skin were all decreased significantly (P<0. 05). And there were different degrees of improvements in those of the herb given groups. Conclusion G. Pentaphyllumhas the protective effect on the skin of the photoageing in the hairless mice. The mechanism may be that G. Pentaphyllum could inhibit the oxidative damages of ultraviolet and skin photoaging by increasing the synthesis of collagen in skin.

Objective To study the effects of enteral nutrition( EN) on inflammatory factors and cardiac function in elderly patients with heart failure ( HF ) . Methods A total of 96 elderly patients with HF were enrolled in this study and randomly divided into treatment group A,treatment group B and control group( n= 32 in each group) . Patients in group A were provided with 500 mL of EN daily for 1 month, and those in group B were provided with the same dose of EN for 3 months. Control group was treated with normal diet. The nutrition status of each group was assessed by NRS2002. Meanwhile, all patients were evaluated by New York Heart Association(NYHA) class and left ventricle eject fraction(LVEF). The levels of BNP,IL-6, CRP and TNF-α were also measured before and after nutrition treatment. Results In group A and group B,BMI,TSF,AMC, TP,ALB and HGB increased. Symptoms of HF alleviated quickly and LVEF increased compared to the baseline. The levels of BNP,IL-6,CRP and TNF-α were significantly lower after treatment(P<0. 05) in both treatment groups, and the change in group B was more obvious(P<0. 01) than group A. However,in control group, there is neither evident improvement in cardiac function or nutrition status, nor in inflammatory factor levels. Conclusion Adding EN support to the normal treatment of heart failure in elderly malnourished patients with HF not only improves the function of heart and nutrition status, but also helps to support immune system so as to alleviate acute inflammatory response. The benefits from EN depend on the duration of therapy.

Objective To explore the significance and important measure of integrative treatment of multiple trauma patients with severe craniocerebral injury in emergency center. Methods One hundred and forty-eight multiple trauma patients with severe craniocerebral injury in emergency center from November 2002 to February 2006 were analysed retrospectively. Result In total 148 cases, 72 were cured and 26 dead, 7 were in status of plant man, 17 experienced severe deformity, and 26 did mild deformity. Conclusion Multiple trauma patients with severe craniocerebral injury usually experience a serious situation and rapid development. Therefore emergency doctors are required for organizing salvage of such patients, at the same time treatment and diagnosis are implemented. Firstly the most important key to successful salvage is appropriate disposal of fatal injury and early elimination of shock. Proper surgical choice, especially at the first time, inspection and protection of visceral functions, and attention to nutritional support are other vital methods to gain more successful salvage. ICU is also emphasized for its essentiality.

Chinese Journal of Dermatology 2011;44(4):229-231
Objective To investigate the clinical features of and gene mutations in a Chinese Han pedigree with piebaldism. Methods Clinical data were collected with informed consent from a pedigree with piebaldism, processed and documented. A clinical genetic analysis was conducted and pedigree chart was drawn. Genomic DNA was extracted from the peripheral blood of 14 patients and 40 unaffected individuals in the family as well as 50 unrelated human controls, and subjected to the amplification of 21 exons and flanking sequences of the KIT gene by PCR. Sequence analysis was performed by Mutation SurveyorTM. Results There were 73 members in the family, and of them, 14 were diagnosed with piebaldism according to typical clinical features. Piebaldism was inherited in an autosomal dominant pattern in this family. A heterozygous 4-base insertion mutation 1900insATGA in exon 13 of KIT gene was identified in all the 14 affected family members, which resulted in a frame-shift mutation at codon 634 and produced a premature translation termination codon. This mutation was undetected in either the unaffected family members or unrelated controls. Up to the time of this writing, this mutation had not been previously reported. Conclusion The novel mutation 1900insATGA in the KIT gene may be the cause of clinical phenotype of piebaldism in the family.
