Objective To conduct comparative study of healthy vertebral artery (VA) blood flow of subjects from plain and plateau region using color Doppler ultrasound (CDUS) measurement,and to investigate the influence of plateau on blood flow of VA.Methods One hundred and thirty-five subjects from plain region and eighty from high altitude region were recruited.Time averaged maximum velocity and inradium (D) of VA were measured with CDUS technology.Unilateral VA blood flow and total blood flow were calculated.Peripheral blood viscosity measurement was carried out by testing low cut,mid cut,high cut,plasma viscosity and red blood cell count (RBC),hemoglobin concentration (HGB),hematocrit (HCT).Results VA diameter,blood viscosity,RBC,HGB,and HCT of plateau group are all higher than that of the plain group (P＜0.05),while the total blood flow was lower than that of plain group and the value of male was higher than that of female (P＜0.05).The inradiums of right side VA were larger than that of the left side (P＜0.05) in plain group,while no difference was observed in plateau group (P＞0.05).Conclusions Long term (＞10 years) living in plateau hypoxia (altitude＞3 000 m) environment can reduce the average flow velocity and the blood flow of VA.

BACKGROUND:The articular cartilage has weak self-repair ability, mainly due to its lack of trophoblast cels in blood vessels and slow cel metabolism. Current treatment methods cannot restore the original function of the cartilage tissue, and cartilage tissue engineering in recent years has garnered increasing attention. OBJECTIVE:To observe the effect of adipose-derived stem cels transfected with bone morphogenetic protein 14 combined with type I colagen sponge scaffold on the repair of articular cartilage injury in the knee of rabbits. METHODS: Adipose-derived stem cels were isolated and cultured from rabbit subcutaneous adipose tissue, and transfected with Ad-CMV-BMP-14-IRES-hrGFP-1. Type I colagen sponge scaffold with the transfected adipose-derived stem cels was used to repair articular cartilage injury in the knee of rabbits. Twelve weeks after operation, the articular tissue was taken for gross assessment and histological evaluation. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: The expressions of bone morphogenetic protein 14, type II colagen and Sox-9 were higher in cels transfected with bone morphogenetic protein 14 than untransfected ones. At 12 weeks after operation, adipose-derived stem cels transfected with bone morphogenetic protein 14 combined with type I colagen sponge scaffold had good repair effect on articular cartilage injuries, and the injured cartilage tissues were smooth and had good texture, color and integration junction; adipose-derived stem cels combined with type I colagen sponge scaffold could partialy repair the injured cartilage tissues that had similar color and texture to normal tissues, and there was a remarkable boundary between the repaired tissue and normal cartilage tissue;simple type I colagen sponge scaffold was almost colapsed, and no hyaline cartilage tissue formed. These findings indicate that transfection of bone morphogenetic protein 14 can strengthen the ability of adipose-derived stem cels dramaticaly to repair cartilage injuries.

In order to study the effect of mechanical strain on mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) differentiation into osteogenic, the cyclic substrate deformation instructment was applicated to MSCs line (D1 cell) in osteogenic media for different strain and times. The cells were cyclically stretched for periods of 1, 2, 3, 5 and 10 min and treated with cytochalasin B(CB) and EGTA. Ca2+, which were loaded with (15 ?l) Fluo-3 AM , were detected by confocal laser scanning microscope(CLSM). The signaling inhibitors, such as SB203580(p38MAPK specific inhibitor), PD98059(MEK-1/2MAPK specific inhibitor), LY294002(PI3Ks specific inhibitor), cytochalasin B(microfilament specific inhibitor), EGTA (Ca2+ specific inhibitor), were used to investigate mechanical signaling pathway by (3% 0.5Hz) Cyclic strain. The results indicated that 3% strain stimulus could induce increasement of [Ca2+] i - dependent fluorescence at 2 min. Objective To compare the stress distribution of calcaneal compression articular surface and normal surface in biomechanical analysis.Methods The posterior articular facet of the normal finite element model was wedged resected from inside to outside and from front to back,to imitate the malunion model with subtalar articular surface collapse after fracture.The B(o)hler angle was 35° before wedged,and 0° after wedged.On heel and Achilles tendon attachment point,320 N and 160 N loads were applied vertically upwards respectively.Compare calcaneal Vonmises stress distribution between malunion and normal model.Results Judging from the general stress distribution of malunion of calcaneal,subtalar joint stress reduced.The main stress area of normal bone joints was in articular surface,while the main stress area of malunion model was in the lateral calcaneal close to the calcaneocuboid joint.The main stress of the outboard is high-er than that of inboard.Outboard is the main part of supporting load.Judging from the detailed comparison with bone structure,first of all,the subsidence of subtalar joint top resulted in partial backward of the main stress of the calcaneus,which shifted to the Achilles tendon attachment point.It increased from normal (1.51±0.22) MPa to (3.11±0.24) MPa.Joint top of the stress reduced from normal (6.71±0.37) MPa to (2.83± 0.49) MPa.Secondly,the calcaneus stress of the former calcaneocuboid articulation significantly increased,which increased from normal (0.46±0.15) MPa to (2.13±0.15) MPa,and sustentaculum tali stress decreased from 5.18 MPa to 1.41 MPa.Conclusion By finite element model of this subject,the study proves that subtalar joint surface collapsed in calcaneal fractures is the main causes of most pathological changes.The problem of the joint surface subsidence should be resolved firstly in a clinical treatment,and the normal height of the calcaneus should be restored.The internal stress distribution of calcaneal is essential to the pain in the related part of calcaneal.

Objective To discuss external fixation method for the complex diaphyses fracture involving condyles of femur and evaluate its clinical efficacy.Methods A retrospective study was done on 42 patietns with comminuted femur diaphyses fracture combined with distal intra-articular fractures treated surgically from January 2001 to Janurary 2007.There were 24 males and 18 females at mean age of 33 years (20-66 years).According to AO/ASIF classification,there were 18 patients with type C2 fractures and 24 with type C3 ones.Simple internal fixation plus external fixation was performed on patitents with C3 fractures but only external fixation on those with C2 fractures.Four patients were treated with intramedular fixation.Results All patients were followed up for 1-12 months.According to Kotmert's assessment standard on function of proximal femur,the knee function was satisfactory in 35 patients (83% ) ,good in six (14% ) and unsatisfactory in one (2% ).Conclusions Minimally invasive external fixation can utmostly restore relative length of the femur and regulate between articular face of the femur and longitudinal axis of femur shaft to reach a symmetrical relation with middle and inferior part of opposite femur.Postoperative exercise is important for maximal recovery of the knee function.Attention should be paid to reconstruction of tubiform structure of the femur.

Objective To apply the EDI technology to the field pharmaceutical water preparation, thus improve the ability to prepare pharmaceutical water. Methods The EDI pharmaceutical water production technics was studied, and different kinds of technics were analyzed. The resistance value and TOC content of product water by EDI system were checked. The compact field purified water apparatus was developed, for which self-developed EDI was core technology. Results EDI system had advanced performance, for which the resistance value was high level, and the content of TOC was low. The produced water accorded with the criterion of purified water of Chinese Pharmacopoeia 2005. Conclusion EDI technology adapts to field pharmaceutical water production, and improves the quality of produced water and the adaptability of the system.
