This paper was aimed to investigate the effects of icariin on the expression of p38 mitogen activated protein kinase(MAPK)protein in rat osteoblasts cultured in vitro, to elucidate the signal transduction of icariin in preventing and treating osteoporosis. The results showed that p38MAPK could be activated by icariin within 5min, and Cbfal could also be upregulated, and SB203580, an inhibitor of p38MAPK pathway, could partly inhibit Cbfal upregulation by icariin.

Professor ZHOU Yun-xian's clinical experience of acupuncture combined with Chinese material medica for xerophthalmia is introduced. Her treatment for xerophthalmia is firstly focused on syndrome differentiation, indicating that different syndrome has different treatment of acupuncture and Chinese material medica. It is emphasized that by following the holistic concept of TCM, the local acupoints and whole-body acupoints cooperate closely, forming her special combination method of acupoints. In clinic, attention is focused on the application of many acupuncture techniques and extra points. With the combination of acupuncture and Chinese material medica, the treatment is flexible with superior clinical efficacy.

Objective To explore the mediator effect of coping styles in relationship between hope level and subjective well-being of empty-nesters in urban community. Methods 208 empty-nesters were tested with Herth Hope Scale,Coping Style Questionnaire and Subjective Well-Being to investigate the influence and the pathways of hope and coping styles on subjective well-being with structural equation modeling. Results Influence of hope level on subjective well-being of empty-nesters in urban community accorded with completely-mediated model (x2/df =1.971,GFI =0.955,AGFI =0.911,RMSEA =0.068),and influence of hope level mediated by positive coping styles accounted for 41.76%(Z=3.692,P<0.01).Conclusion The influence of hope level on subjective well-being is mediated mainly by positive coping styles for empty-nesters in urban community.

Journal of Acupuncture and Tuina Science 2003;1(5):10-14
Objective: To explore the characteristics of acupoint selection in the treatment of apoplexy. Method:This paper reviews and analyzes the ancient and current medical literature, and then summarizes the characteris -tics of acupoint selection in treating apoplexy. Results:Four characteristics are presented: the acupoints on the head are mostly used; the acupoints are principally selected according to the course of nerves; the acupoints of the yang meridians are usually selected; the special acupoints and empirical acupoints are often combined. Conclusion: Above principles may be adopted in the selection of acupoints to treat apoplexy.

Basic & Clinical Medicine 2006;0(08):-
Objective To investigate the therapy effects of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) on renal recovery after ischemia-reperfusion injured. Methods Seventy-two Spargue-Dawley rats were randomly divided into 4 groups as normal control, sham operated control, I/R group(n=30) and the MSCs group. Rats were subjected to 45 min bilateral renal ischemial-reperfusion injury with microvascular clips, after 60 min of reperfusion they were injected in BrdU positive MSCs(1?106/mL)intravenously. The animals were sacrificed at 12 h, 3 d, 7 d, 14 d, and 42 d after reperfusion, and the bilateral kidney and blood samples were harvested. The blood urea nitrogen(BUN) and serum creatinine(Scr) were measured on automatic biochemistry analyzer. Renal morphologic changes were scored with Paller’s criterion on hematoxylin and eosin(H&E) stained sections. The apoptosis of tubular cells were examined by terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase-mediated dUTP-biotin nick end labeling (TUNEL). PCNA positive tubular cells were detected immunohistochemically as proliferation index. And confocal microscopy were used to identified the distribution of BrdU positive MSCs. Results After 12 h, 3 d of reperfusion, the Scr value of MSCs group were signifcantly lower than I/R group(P

Acupuncture has remarkable effects of pain relieving and functional restoration on injuries of soft tissue and joint due to military training. As more and more attention has been attached to the impact of psychological states and biorhythm disorder on the fighting ability of military staff, acupuncture has found its place in treating chronic fatigue, combat stress reaction, traumatic brain injury and post-traumatic stress disorder as well as regulating circadian rhythms. The therapeutic effect of acupuncture in military training-related physical damage and psychological trauma has already been proved by numerous clinical practices and researches. It is held that using acupuncture as an alternative could not only save medical resources, but also enhance the fighting ability of the army. However, the current clinical studies is facing the problem of limited sample size. Therefore, randomized controlled trials in large scale and multiple centers should be further carried out toward military staff, so as to provide more speaking evidences to the prevention and treatment of physical and psychological diseases.
