Objective To know the drinking water safety for students and teachers in urban and rural boarding schools in Guangxi, further to prevent and control the water-borne diseases. Methods The random stratified cluster sampling method was used to select 100 schools in 10 counties of Nanning, Liuzhou and Guilin cities. The drinking water samples were collected and tested according to Sanitary Standard for Drinking Water Quality2001. The epidemic situation of intestinal infectious diseases was investigated. Results The total qualified rate of drinking water quality in 100 boarding schools of 10 counties cities was only 27.00%, as for the water supply provided for themselves with disinfection, the qualified rate was 47.37%, without disinfection, it was 16.95%. 24 outbreak events of intestinal infectious diseases occured in 100 boarding schools in 2000-2005, 2 339 of school teachers and students were attacked, including 13 outbreak events of typhoid and paratyphoid 54.17% with 1 280 cases 54.72%, 6 outbreak events of bacterial dysentery25.00% with 829 cases35.44%, 4 outbreak events of infectious diarrhea 16.67% with 225 cases 9.62%, 1 outbreak of hepatitis A 4.17% with 5 cases 0.21%. These 24 epidemic events were caused by drinking water, the morbidity was higher in the schools where there was no disinfection facility in water supply. Conclusion Some of water supply for some urban and rural boarding schools have been polluted with bacteria in Guangxi, so drinking water disinfection should be done to ensure water safety and prevent the related diseases in these schools.

Objective To retrospectivly analyze the value of Pap smear,liquid-based cells, colposcopy and colposcopic cervical biopsy in the diagnosis of cervical cancer. Methods 116 cases of cervical cancer were retrospectively analyzed, and the value of Pap smear,liquid-based cells ,colposcopy, and colposcopic cervical biopsy in the diagnosis of cervical cancer were investigated. Result 116 patients were pathologically diagnosed with cervical cancer before and after surgery. Pap smear was performed for 30 patients (25.9%) ,and 10 patients (33.3%) were detected with HSIL. Liquid-based cells was performed for47 patients (40.5%) ,and 25 patients (53.1%) were detected with HSIL. Colposcopy was performed for 99 patients (85.3%), and 75 patients (75.8 % ) were detected with HSIL or invasive cancer. Preoperative colposcopic biopsy was performed for 99 patients, and the pathological coincidence rate was 94.9%. There was no significant difference statistically between two cytology screening ( P > 0.05 ). There was significant difference statistically between liquid-based cells and colposcopy ( P < 0.01 ). There were significant differences statistically among liquid-based cells, colposcopy ,and colposcopic cervical biopsy ( P <0.01 ). Conclusion Cytology, colposcopy, colposcopic cervical biopsy could not be individually more complete and accurate detection of cervical cancer. Colposcopy, colposcopic biopsy than cytology had higher accurate rate of diagnosis of cervical cancer. A reasonable combination of multiple detection methods could improve the diagnostic accuracy of cervical cancer.

Objective To investigate whether the μ- and δ-opioid receptors were involved in mediating the a ntinociceptive effect of opioid injection into the nucleus submedius (Sm). Methods Nociceptive behavior produced by subcutaneous injection of formalin (65 mmol/L, 50 μL) into the hind paw of the rat was assessed quantitatively using an automated movement detection system. The effects of morphine and selectiveμ- and δ-opioid receptor antagonists microinjected unilaterally into the Sm were determined in the awake rats. Results Morphine (31 mmol/L, 0. 5 μL) depressed the nociceptive behavior elicited by formalin, and this effect was antagonized completely by the selective μ-receptor antagonist β-funaltrexamine (β-FNA, 0. 4 mmol/L, 0. 5 μL) and naloxonazine (0.8 mmol/L, 0.5 μL), and partly by the δ-receptor antagonist naltrindole (0.4 mmol/L, 0.5μL).Administration of morphine into thalamic regions more than 0. 5 mm dorsal to the Sm had no effect on the nociceptive behavior. Conclusion Antinociceptive effects produced by opioid acting on Sm neurons are mediated mainly by μ-opioid receptors, and partly by δ-receptors.

OBJECTIVETo investigate in situ visualization using near-infrared quantum dots (QDs) conjugated with arginine- glycine-aspartic acid (ROD) peptide fluorescent probes in oral squamous cell carcinoma (08CC).
METHODSQDs with emission wavelength of 800 nm (QD800) were conjugated with RGD peptides to produce QD800-RGD fluorescent probes. Human OSCC cell line BcaCD885 was inoculated in nude mice cheeks to establish OSCC mouse models. Frozen BcaCD885 tumor slices were immunofluorescence double stained by using QD800-RGD and CD105 monoclonal antibody and were observed using a laser scanning confocal microscope. QD800-RGD was injected into the OSCC models through the tail veins, and the in situ visualization was analyzed at different time points. The mice were sacrificed 12 h after injection to isolate tumors for the ex vivo analysis of probe localization in the tumors.
RESULTSQD800-RGD specifically targeted the integrin avβ3 expressed in the endothelial cells of tumor angiogenic vessels in vitro and in vivo, producing clear tumor fluorescence images after intravenous injection. The most complete tumor images with maximal signal-to-noise ratios were observed 0.5 h to 6 h after injection of the probe and significantly reduced 9 h after the injection. However, the tumor image was still clearly visible at 12 h.
CONCLUSIONUsing intravenously injected QD800-RGD generates high quality OSCC images when integrin avβ3, which is expressed in the endothelial cells of tumor angiogenic vessels, is used as the target. The technique offers great potential in the diagnosis and individual treatment of OSCC.

The traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) theory of "treating heart and brain diseases with same methods (Nao Xin Tong Zhi: NXTZ)" has great significance to the treatment of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. It has been proven effective by a great deal of clinical researches. However, the underlying mechanism for this theory is still unclear. To provide insights into the potential mechanism of "NXTZ", this study attempts to deeply investigate the mechanism from two representative cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, coronary heart disease (CHD) and cerebral apoplexy. First, various data resources were integrated to obtain different types of biomedical entities including drugs, targets, pathways and diseases. Then, three different approaches including text mining, biological network and enrichment analysis were utilized to recognize the potential common features between CHD and cerebral apoplexy, and the corresponding functions of drugs which could treat both diseases, thus unveiling the mechanism of NXTZ.

AIM: To explore the relationship between dynamic changes of population spike (PS) and morphologic alterations in hippocampal CA1 region and morphology after transient ischemia/reperfusion and the improving effects of Chinese herbs 9602. METHODS: Changes of evoking population spike ware investigated by electrical stimulating Schaffer collateral in CA1 region of hippocampal slice after ischemia/reperfusion in vivo . Apoptosis and morphologic alterations at different time points after cerebral ischemia/reperfusion were detected by using TUNEL and Nissl staining. RESULTS: The threshold voltage of CA1 region in evoking population spike increased markedly as compared with sham control. The enhancement of wave amplitude was reduced significantly after tetanic stimulation. The duration of enhancement in amplitude decreased with the passage of reperfusion. Above all were observed from 8 h after ischemia/reperfusion. They became remarkable and got to its top at 7 day after ischemia/reperfusion treatment. TUNEL positive cells were observed in hippocampal CA1 region at 8 h, got to the top at 24 h and then gradually reduced after ischemia/reperfusion. A lot of abnormal cells in CA1 region was found, and the number of pyramidal cell reduced progressively by Nissl staining after ischemia/reperfusion. Chinese herbs 9602 reduced the threshold voltage of CA1 region in evoking population spike remarkably, enhanced the wave amplitude and prolonged the duration of PS enhancement; decreased the number of TUNEL positive cell, prevented the reduction of pyramidal cell in CA1 region. CONCLUSIONS: The excitability and reactivity were decreased and there was a gradual functional disturbance of synaptic transmission in CA1 pyramidal cell and most notable changes happened at 7 d ischemia/reperfusion, suggesting that was partly due to delayed neuronal death induced by ischemia/reperfusion. Apoptosis plays an important role in the functional deficiency of CA1 region of hippocampus induced by cerebral ischemia/reperfusion. The effects of 9602 on ameliorating the excitability and reactivity of CA1 pyramidal cells relate to inhibiting apoptosis, attanuating delayed neuron death induced by ischemia/reperfusion.
