Objective To evaluate the effect of oxytocin on Tp-e and QTc interval during caesarean section under spinal anesthesia in healthy puerperas. Methods Forty ASA Ⅰ puerperas were selected and allocated to receive oxytocin intravenous bolus group (group-IB) or oxytocin continuous infusion group (group-CI) with 20 puerperas in each by random digits table. An intravenous bolus of 5% glucose 5 ml and 5 U oxytocin was administered after delivery a 55-60 s period. A continuous infusion of 5% glucose 5 ml and 5U oxytocin was administered after delivery a 10 min period. Measured the QTc interval,Tp-e interval, mean arterial pressure (MAP) and beart rate ( HR ) pre-operatively, then 1,3 and 5 ain after spinal anesthesia, and at least 1,3,5 and 10 min after oxytocin injection. Results In group-IB:HR was fast 1 min after oxytocin injection compared with pre-operatively [(89 ± 13) beats/min vs. (73 ± 12) beats/min] ,MAP was decreased [(69 ± 12 ) mm Hg ( 1 mm Hg= 0. 133 kPa ) vs. ( 82 ± 13 ) mm Hg] and QTc interval was prolonged [(426 ±21 ) ms vs. (405 ± 18 ) ms] (P < 0.01 ); but Tp-e interval was prolonged 1,3,5 min after oxytocin injection compared with pre-operatively (P < 0.01 or < 0.05 ). Conclusions Single large dose of oxytocin intravenous bolus (5 U) can prolong QTc interval and Tp-e interval in healthy puerperas, and Tp-e interval can exact predict the occurrence of ventricular arrhythmias. The risk-benefit balance of oxytocin bolus during caesarean delivery should be discussed with women with a history of long QT syndrome.

Objective To investigate human pulpal response to mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) and calcium hydroxide (CH) as pulp capping agents. Methods This study was conducted on 90 intact first and second premolars of human maxillary and mandibular teeth of 30 volunteers. The patients were randomly assigned into three groups with 10 in each group. Under local anesthesia, the teeth were exposed and capped either with MTA, or CH. After 30, 60, and 90 days, 10 teeth of each group were extracted and prepared for histologic ob-servation. The data were analyzed with Wilcoxon rank sum test and paired t-tests (α = 0.05). Results MTA had a higher success rate and resulted in less pulpal inflammatory response and more predictable hard dentin bridge formation than CH (P < 0.05). Conclusion MTA appears to be a suitable replacement for CH in direct pulp capping.

Objective To evaluate the efficacy and toxicity of combined pegylated liposomaldoxorubicin (PLD) and carboplatin in the treatment of patients with recurrent epithelial ovarian cancer. Methods We retrospectively reviewed 67 patients with recurrent epithelial ovarian cancer or primaryperitoneal adenocarcinoma (8 eases) who were treated with combined PLD and earboplatin. The responserate, survival and toxicity were evaluated. The mean age for 67 patients was 52.1 (39-76) years. All ofthem received eytoreductive surgery followed by platinum-based chemotherapy either with paclitaxel orcyclophosphamide and doxorubicin after diagnosis. Combined PLD and carboplatin was used as first orsecond-line treatment or even after multiple lines of treatment after disease recurred. Patients were treatedwith PLD at 35-40 mg/m2combined with carboplatin at an area under curve ( AUC ) of 5 once every 4weeks. Results Forty-nine. Patients were evaluable for response. Twenty-three (47%) patients had acomplete response, 13 (27%) had a partial response, 3 (6%) had stable disease and 10 (20%) hadprogressive disease. The estimated median progression-free survival (PFS) was 8 months. The 1-year and 2-year survival rates were 73% and 55%, respectively. All of the 67 patients were evaluated for toxicity. Thetreatment was terminated in 2 patients due to allergic-like infusion reaction. Four patients who had acuteinfusion reaction with shortness of breath and tightness of chest did not terminate the treatment because nosuch reaction occurred when restarted the infusion. There were 2 patients with G2and 3 patients with G3hand-foot syndrome, 2 patients had G4stomatitis, and 8 patients had G3leukopeni,, No G4leukopenia orcardiotoxicity eceurred. Conclusion The combination of PLD and carboplatin is an active and wellotolerated regimen in the treatment of patients with recurrent epithelial ovarian cancer.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the inhibitory effect of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) on E coliinduced prostatitis in rats.
METHODSBMSCs were isolated, cultured and amplified by the attached choice method. Fifty SD rats were randomized into five groups of equal number: normal control, acute bacterial prostatitis (ABP) , chronic bacterial prostatitis (CBP), ABP + BMSCs, and CBP + BMSCs, and the animals in the latter four groups were injected with E. coli into both sides of the prostate under ultrasound guidance for 1 - 14 days to induce ABP and for 4 - 12 weeks to induce CBP. The control rats were injected with the same amount of PBS. Two weeks after injection of BMSCs into the prostates, pathomorphological changes in the prostate were observed under the light microscope and the mRNA and protein levels of IL-1β and TNF-α determined by RT-PCR and ELISA, respectively, followed by statistical analysis with SPSS 18.0.
RESULTSHistopathological evaluation showed typical pathological inflammatory changes in the prostates of the rats in the ABP and CBP groups, including glandular structural changes, interstitial edema, inflammatory cell infiltration, and fibrous hyperplasia, which were all remarkably relieved after treated with BMSCs. The mRNA and protein levels of IL-β ([0.829 ± 0.121] and [271.75 ± 90.59] pg/ml) and TNF-α ([0.913 ± 0. 094] and [105.78 ± 19. 05] pg/ml) in the ABP and those of IL-1β ([0. 975 ± 0. 114] and [265. 31 ± 71. 34] pg/ml) and TNF-α ([0. 886 ± 0. 084] and [107. 45 ± 26. 11 ] pg/ml) in the CBP groups were significantly higher than those in the control rats ([0. 342 ± 0.087] and [45.76 17. 99] pg/ml, P <0. 05); ([0.247 ± 0.054] and ([19.42 ± 7. 75] pg/ml, P <0. 01) as well as than those in the ABP + BMSCs ([0. 433 ± 0. 072] and [51. 34 ± 22. 13] pg/ml, P < 0. 05 ) ; ( [0. 313 ± 0. 076] and [28. 38 ± 8. 78] pg/ml, P < 0. 01) and the CBP + BMSCs group ([0.396 ± 0.064] and [56.37 ± 21.22] pg/ml, P <0.05); ([0.417 ± 0.068] and [29.21 ± 10.22] pg/ml, P <0.01).
CONCLUSIONInjection of BMSCs can reduce E coli-induced prostatic inflammation reaction, which.may be associated with its reduction of inflammatory cell infiltration and the expressions of IL-1β and TNF-α in the prostate tissue.
