Journal of Forensic Medicine 2013;29(6):431-433
OBJECTIVE:
To analyze the general and forensic pathological characteristics of death due to fat embolism syndrome (FES) and to provide reference data for forensic identification.
METHODS:
Twenty autopsy cases due to FES were selected from the forensic center of a medical college from 1999 to 2012. The general and forensic pathological characteristics such as the ways and types of injuries, clinical manifestation and the pathological changes were summarized.
RESULTS:
Fat embolism mainly occurred after long bone fracture or a large area of soft tissue injury with the majority of cases being fat embolism of lung and occasional cases being combined embolisms of lung and brain as well. The onset of symptoms appeared shortly after the injury or surgery. Lipid droplets could be observed within small pulmonary vessels and verified by special staining.
CONCLUSION
There are particular characteristics in death due to FES in concern with types of injuries, onset of symptoms and pathological findings. In order to find out the direct evidence of FES, special staining (oil red O staining) can be used in the forensic identification.

The study was to develop cis-dichlorodiammineplatinum(DDP)-loaded formulations using a novel type of self-assembled compound composed of block copolymers synthesized by poly(?-glutamic acid)(?-PGA).For the potential of targeting liver cancer cells,D-galactose was conjugated on the prepared ?-PGA.In vitro,DDP can be released from the resulting conjugate in PBS:there was a burst release during the first 8 h,then followed by sustained release.DDP could be easily incorporated into poly(?-glutamic acid)-D-galactose esterifiable derivative through a covalent bond. The yield of DDP incorporation into the esterifiable derivative was 9.4%~10.2%.In vitro experiments conclusively established that the poly(?-glutamic acid)-D-galactose esterifiable derivative-Cisplatin Complex Compound(?-D+-DDP)was much less toxic to normal cell lines than DDP only. The surviving rate of cells treated with ?-D+-DDP compound is higher than those treated with free DDP.Also it has obvious antitumor efficiency on human liver tumor BEL-7402 cells.HE staining indicated that the ?-D+-DDP compound make the BEL-7402 apoptosis. These results indicated that the conjugation of DDP to the esterifiable derivative reduced its cytotoxicity activity, but retains its antitumor activity in vitro. In conclusion, the ?-D+-DDP compound could be used as a potential clinic antitumor drug. The ?-PGA obtained by fermentation can be used as a valuable drug carrier system.
6. Inhibition of genistein against LPS-induced proinflammatory response in microglia
Journal of Shanghai Jiaotong University(Medical Science) 2019;39(5):446-450
Objective • To investigate the effect of genistein (Gen) on lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced proinflammatory response in microglia. Methods • Primary microglia were isolated from C57BL/6J mice 1 d after birth, which were divided into 3 groups, i.e. control group, LPS group, and Gen+LPS group. Microglia in LPS group and Gen+LPS group were incubated with LPS (1 μg/mL) for 24 h, and the cells in Gen+LPS group were also pretreated with Gen (10 μmol/L) for 0.5 h. The expression of CD11b was measured by Western blotting analysis. Besides, mitochondrial and intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels were monitored by MitoSOXTM Red and CM-H2DCFDA staining, respectively. NLRP3 (NLR family pyrin domain containing 3) inflammasom was detected by immunofluorescence. Caspase-1 activity and interleukin-1β (IL-1β) levels were evaluated by colorimetric assay kit and ELISA kit, respectively. Results • Compared with control group, LPS increased CD11b protein expression, and mitochondrial and intracellular ROS levels in microglia (P<0.05). And Gen obviously reversed LPS-induced mitochondrial and intracellular ROS accumulation as well as reduced CD11b expression (P<0.05). In addition, LPS enhanced fluorescence intensity of NLRP3 inflammasome, caspase-1 activity and IL-1β secretion in microglia when compared with control group (P<0.05), while Gen significantly attenuated these effects (P<0.05). Conclusion·Gen can inhibit LPS-induced proinflammatory response including mitochondrial ROS accumulation, activation of NLRP3 inflammasome, and IL-1β secretion in microglia.

OBJECTIVEThere is little knowledge on whether there is clustering of inflammatory biomarkers, such as C-reactive protein (CRP), soluble intracellular adhesion molecule1-1 (sICAM-1), and angiotensin II (Ang II), in individuals with hypertension in the Mongolian population. In the present study, we investigated this relationship in a Mongolian population in China.
METHODSA total of 2589 adult Mongolians, aged 20 years and older, were recruited as study participants. Data on demographics, lifestyle, family history of hypertension, blood pressure, and blood chemistry were collected, and inflammatory biomarkers were measured in all participants.
RESULTSThe proportion of subjects with increased levels of two or three biomarkers was significantly higher in those with hypertension (21.0% and 6.0%, respectively) than in those with prehypertension (12.7% and 0.5%, respectively) or normotension (8.1% and 0.2%, respectively). The multivariate adjusted odds ratios (95% confidence interval) of hypertension associated with increased levels of one, two or three biomarkers were 0.94 (0.72-1.22), 1.42 (0.93-2.16), and 11.08 (1.45-84.80), respectively, compared with subjects with no increase in any biomarker.
CONCLUSIONHypertension was associated with a cluster of inflammatory biomarkers in the Mongolian population.

Chinese Journal of Cardiology 2009;37(12):1097-1100
OBJECTIVETo evaluate the predictive value of Holter ECG recordings for patients with moderate-severe obstructive sleep apnea and hypopnea syndrome (OSAHS).
METHODSHolter recordings was performed in 76 patients who were diagnosed OSAHS by polysomnography (PSG) within one month from Jan. 2008 to July 2009 in our hospital. Twenty-eight patients were identified as mild OSAHS (AHI < or = 20) and forty-eight patients were moderate-to-severe OSAHS (AHI > 20). The indexes of heart rate variability (HRV), total scores of thirteen sleep apnea risk indexes of Holter recordings and BMI were analyzed by bivariate Logistic regression analysis.
RESULTSClinical features (eg. Gender, age, complicated with hypertension, coronary heart disease, diabetes mellitus, hyperglycemia, and taken beta-blocker), total scores, the sum of thirteen sleep apnea risk scores collected by Holter recordings (5.64 + or - 2.33 vs. 6.42 + or - 2.22, respectively, P > 0.05) were similar between patients with mild OSAHS and moderate-to-severity OSAHS. VLF/Total Power > 70%, the difference of daytime/nighttime LF Power < -70 and BMI were independent predictors of moderate-to-severe OSAHS with OR 3.98 (1.087 - 14.596), 3.69 (1.106 - 12.285) and 1.28 (1.062 - 1.544), respectively (all P < 0.05).
CONCLUSIONSVLF/Total Power and the difference of daytime/nighttime LF Power and BMI could be used as screening parameters to recognize patients with moderate-to-severe OSAHS.
