Objective To understand the schistosomiasis prevention knowledge of middle school students from areas with dif-ferent endemic levels in Hubei Province. Methods The schistosomiasis endemic regions were divided into transmission con-trolled areas and endemic controlled areas in Hubei Province, middle school students from different types of areas were selected through stratified randomized cluster sampling and were investigated by questionnaire. Results A total of 3 204 students were se-lected and investigated. The awareness rate of schistosomiasis prevention and control knowledge among the students ranged from 65.1%-90.3%. Overall, the students from endemic controlled areas had higher knowledge rates of all the items than those from transmission controlled areas(all P<0.05). The middle school students acquired schistosomiasis prevention knowledge mainly from the teachers, parents, doctors and schistosomiasis staff. Conclusion Health education to students should adopt different ways targeting at different endemic levels in the future.

Objective:To propose a method to evaluate the total body water (TBW) of patients on hemodialysis with urea kinetic model (UKM), and compare it with body surface bio-impedance spectrum (BIS) analysis. Methods:We enrolled 24 adult patients with end stage renal disease (ESRD) without hyper-catabolism in our dialysis center. All of them had been on hemodialysis for more than 3 months. TBW was measured with BIS analysis immediately before and after dialysis session, and one hour after hemodialysis session. Spent dialysate was collected; blood samples were taken before and one hour after hemodialysis session, TBW before hemodialysis session were calculated by UKM. Results:Patients were 6 men and 18 women, the average age was (51.2?13.5) years and the average time on dialysis was (33.2?36.7) months. Causes of ESRD included chronic glomerulonephritis (8 patients), diabetic nephropathy (1 patients), hypertensive renal damage (1 patients), interstitial nephritis(two patients), chronic pyelonephritis (two patients). The average ultrafiltration volume was (2.7?1.0) L (0.5-4.4 L) . Plasma urea concentrations were (23.06?5.76) mmol/L and (8.15?2.06) mmol/L before and one hour after hemodialysis session, respectively. There was no significant difference between TBW measured immediately after and one hour after hemodialysis session with BIS analysis [(29.9?8.8) L and (29.8?8.6) L, respectively; average difference was (0.1?0.9)L, P=0.70]. These two measurements correlated very well (Pearson r=0.99, P

Objective: To study the fluid distribution abnormalities in patients on hemodialysis and fluid shift between intracellular and extracellular compartment during hemodialysis (HD).Methods: Eighty stable end stage renal disease patients on maintenance hemodialysis were selected. Conventional low flux dialyses at dialysate sodium concentration of 138 mmoL/L were performed for all of the patients. Fresenius polysulphons or Gambro hemophon dialyzers were used. All of the patients showed no clinical signs of over ultrafiltration during HD sessions and dry body weights were considered adequate. Intracellular water (ICW), extracellular water (ECW) and total body water (TBW) were measured and standardized by body weight (nICW, nECW, nTBW) before and after HD sessions. Sixty-seven cases of sex, age and body weight matched normal individuals were used as controls. Bio-impedance spectrum (BIS) analysis (Xitron, Technolo gies, San Diego, CA, USA) was used in body fluid measurement. Pre and post HD nICW, nECW, and nTBW were compared with these of the controls. Results: There were no differences in age, post-dialysis body weight and body mass index between patients on hemodialysis and the controls. Patients on hemodialysis had less nICW [male (0.28?0.05) vs (0.33?0.04), P

Objective: To analyze the clinical characteristics of hypophosphatemic osteomalacia induced by adefovir dipivoxil (ADV) in order to improve the understanding of the disease. Methods: A retrospective analysis was performed according to the medical records of 11 cases of ADV-induced hypophosphatemic osteomalacia. The medical history, laboratory indicators (ALT, AST, ALB, SCr, UA, blood glucose, blood pH, BE), bone metabolic markers (25OHD3, PTH, tP1NP, β-CTX, OC), urine indicators (urine pH, 24h urine Ca, 24h urine P, 24h urine Pro, urine Scr), DXA and skeleton ECT signs of the patients with hypophosphatemic osteomalacia induced by ADV were analyzed, and the symptoms, blood P, AKP level and urine routines were followed up after 1-month withdrawal and in July, 2016, respectively. Results: The mean ADV administration time of the 11 patients was (5.7±1.2) years, and the bone pain time was (2.2±0.6) years. The serum P was (0.45±0.99)mmol·L-1, 24h urine P was (17.9±4.8)mmol, AKP was (248±107)IU·L-1,the concentration threshold of renal phosphate was(0.31±0.10)mmol·L-1.After the one-month withdrawal of ADV, the bone pain in the patients were all relieved, and with the phosphorus supplement, the level of serum phosphorus was increased. In July of 2016, the average withdrawal time of ADV was (18.3±10.7) months, the serum phosphorus significantly increased and AKP significantly decreased when compared with that on the admission and 1 month after the ADV withdrawal (P<0.05), and the serum phosphorus of 2 patients returned to normal with the recovery rate of 20% (2/10).The regression analysis showed that the influencing factors on serum phosphorus on the admission were renal concentration threshold of phosphate and tP1NP (P<0.05);the influencing factor on serum phosphorus on the last follow-up was bone mineral density at the admission (P<0.05).Conclusion: Hypophosphatemic osteomalacia is a potential side effect of ADV, and ADV-induced renal injury is not completely reversible, which should be paid more attention in clinical work.

Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) is a human herpesvirus associated with important human diseases, including infectious mononucleosis syndrome, malignant lymphoma, and nasopharyngeal carcinoma. The mechanism of EBV entry into host cells remains a subject of intensive research. After decades of study, researchers have identified several key proteins and different patterns of EBV intrusion into host cells. The viral surface glycoproteins, gp350/220, gp42, gB, gH, and gL, are involved in interactions with the CR2 receptor on the surface of B lymphocytes during viral entry. However, the majority of epithelial cells lack CR2 receptor expression, which makes viral invasion much more complex than in B lymphocytes. Three different models have been proposed to explain how EBV enters epithelial cells: (1) "transfer of infection", mediated by B lymphocytes or Langerhans cells; (2) EBV utilizes its own proteins during the process of fusion with the cell membrane; and (3) progeny virions arising from EBV-infected epithelial cells cross lateral membranes into adjacent epithelial cells. This review will discuss the relevant mechanism of viral entry into B lymphocytes and epithelial cells during EBV infection.

Chinese Journal of Experimental Ophthalmology 2012;30(5):388-391
BackgroundRecent researches suggested that properties of neurons in the lateral geniculate neuron (LGN) may represent an important neural limitation on the development of basic spatial and temporal vision, and even binocular rivalry. However, previous studies on the properties of spatiotemporal frequency tuning of LGN were rather concentrated on a monkey or cat, whereas little is known about rat.ObjectiveThis study was to examine the development of spatiotemporal frequency tuning in rats LGN.MethodsTwenty Wistar rats were collected and divided into 14-16 day,20-22 day,27-30 day and 60 day groups according to the different ages after their eyes opened and 5 rats were assigned for each group.Extracellular single neuron recording was carried out in the rats to study the spatio-temporal receptive field properties of neurons in LGN by sinusoidal gratings visual stimuli.Dynamic changes of the spatio-temporal receptive field properties of neurons in LGN with the development of Wistar rats were evaluated.ResultsThe differences between band-pass and low-pass distribution of temporal frequency or spatial frequency of rat LGN were not statistically significant (x2 =0.68,0.47,P>0.05 ).The optimal temporal frequency of receptive field in rat LGN went up to the maximum value until 60 day in Wistar rats. The mean optimal temporal frequencies of neurons in the four different age groups were ( 2.5 ± 1.3 ),( 2.6± 1.2),(2.6± 1.1 ) and ( 3.6± 1.1 ) Hz with significant differences among the 4 groups (F=4.53,P<0.05 ),and those in the 14-16 day group,20-22 day group,27- 30 day group were significantly lower than in the 60 days group ( q =4.43,4.10,4.03,P < 0.05 ).No significant differences were seen among the 14-16 day group,20-22 day group and 27-30 day group ( P>0.05 ).The optimal spatial frequency values in the four groups were ( 0.04 ± 0.04 ),( 0.04 ± 0.03 ),( 0.05 ± 0.03 ),( 0.05 ± 0.04 ) cpd, respectively without statistical difference among them ( F =0.58,P > 0.05 ).The temporal and spatial bandwidth values in the various age groups were not statistically significant among the four groups ( F =0.37,1.22,P>0.05). Conclusions The development of temporal and spatial frequency characteristics of the rat LGN receptive field may be related to its functional visual pathway.
