Aldose reductase (AR) mRNA level in peripheral blood mononuclear cells was assayed by RT-PCR. There was a positive correlation between PBMC AR mRNA level and urinary albumin excretion rate in type 2 diabetic patients. The result suggests that AR activity is related to the pathogenesis of diabetic nephropathy.

Objective To evaluate the effect of Alprostsdil combined with Magnesium Isoglycyrrhizinate on hepatocirrhosis at active phase. Method 74 inpatients collected from our hospital were randomly divided into control group(37 cases)and treatment group(37 cases). The patients in control group were given conventional liver protecting treatment. In addition to routine therapy of the control group, the patients in treatment group received intravenous Alprostadil and Magnesium Isoglycyrrhizinate injection once a day for 4 weeks. Results The total effective rate of treatment group was 67. 6%, and that of control group was 40. 5%, and the difference was significant (P ＜ 0. 05).Conclusion Alprostadil combined with Magnesium Isoglycyrrhizinate has good clinical therapeutic effect on hepatocirrhosis at active phase.

OBJECTIVETo explore the effect of Jianpi Qinghua Recipe (JQR) on renal functions of adriamycin-induced focal segmental glomerular sclerosis (FSGS) rats from the angle of activating fibroblasts to myofibroblast (MyoF).

METHODSTotally 56 rats were randomly divided into the normal control group (n=8), the sham-operation group (n =8), and the model group (n=40). The FSGS rat model was induced by nephrectomy of left kidney plus intravenous injection of adriamycin. Successfully modeled rats were further divided into 5 groups, i.e., the model group, the JQR group, the JPR (Jianpi Recipe) group, the QHR (Qinghua Recipe) group, and the NDQ (Niaoduqing) group, 8 in each group. Corresponding drugs were administered to rats in all groups, 2 mL each time, for 56 days. The effect of JQR on serum creatinine (SCr), urea nitrogen, 24-h urinary protein excretion, a-smooth muscle actin (alpha-SMA) mRNA, collagen type III (Col III) mRNA, fibronectin (FN) mRNA, and collagen type IV (Col IV) mRNA were observed.

RESULTSJQR could significantly lower SCr, urea nitrogen, and 24-h urinary protein excretion levels (P < 0.01), and significantly decrease mRNA levels of alpha-SMA, Col III, FN, and Col IV (P < 0.01). It was advantageous over the NDQ group. Compared with JPR, the relative expression levels of Col III mRNA and FN mRNA of JQR and QHR were significantly lower (P < 0.01).

CONCLUSIONSJQR could improve the renal function and renal fibrosis in the adriamycin-induced nephropathic model rats. Its efficacy was superior to that of NDQ. Its mechanisms might be linked with inhibiting activation of fibroblasts.

[objective] To investigate the effects of curcumin on the behavior of chronic constrictive injury(CCI)rats and the c-fos expression in spinal cord dorsal horn.[Methods]108 male SD rats were randomly divided into 4 groups:Control group(treated with CCI);Sham operation group;Solvent contrast group;Curcumin treated group.Thermal withdrawal latency(TWL)and mechanical withdrawal threshold(MWT)of rats were determined by Hargreave's thermal radiation apparatus and von Frey's method of microfilament,respectively.The time course of expression of c-fos were assessed by immunohistochemical analysis.[Results]Curcumin could significantly attenuate the activation of c-fos induced by CCI and simultaneously ameliorate thermal and mechanical hyperalgesia induced by CCI.[Conclusion]This study shows that curcumin could attenuate the activation of c-fos to ameliorate the CCI-induced neuropathic pain.

AIM: To investigate the indications and therapeutic effect of the conservative treatment and surgical treatment for vitreous hemorrhage.
METHODS: Hemorrhage reasons, degree of illness, and treatment and final results of vitreous hemorrhage were recorded from 2008 to 2013, and curative effect of different treatments was analyzed.
RESULTS:Selected 22 cases ( 24 eyes ) of conservative treatment, vision degree of 6 eyes ( 25%) had raised, 5 eyes ( 21%) occurred secondary retinal detachment without treatment, 3 eyes (12. 5%) suffered neovascular glaucoma were underwent operation, but the vision had lost completely. In 26 cases ( 31 eyes ) of control (operation) group, vision of 17 eyes (55%) had improved, 2 eyes (6. 5%) suffered the second operation, 2 eyes (6. 5%) suffered the third surgery, 3 eyes (10%) suffered eyeball atrophy. The number of ultimate vision improved with conservative treatment were significantly lower than the number of cases with surgical treatment (P<0. 05).
CONCLUSION: The surgical treatment is still visible vitreous hemorrhage treatment means of positive, but there will be eyeball atrophy and other serious complications, so we should choose a different methods in according to the different treatment objects and treatment time.

Yes-associated protein (YAP) is a multifunctional protein that can interact with different transcription factors to acti-vate gene expression. YAP, as the key transcription protein of Hippo pathway, has made important contribution to the control of the or-gan size, stem cell biology, and tissue-specific stem cell self-renewal. In the Hippo pathway, MST1/2 kinases, together with the adaptor protein SAV, phosphorylate LATS1/2 kinases. YAP is phosphorylated and inhibited by the activated LATS1/2, a key component of the Hippo tumor suppressor pathway. In recent years, numerous studies have shown that the high expression of YAP in the embryonic stem cells, neural stem cells, and hematopoietic stem cells can maintain the cancer stem cell;and YAP has become the marker of cancer stem cells. Meanwhile, more and more studies indicate that the disorder of Hippo-YAP signaling pathway may be associated with cancer stem cells. In this review, we mainly discuss the role of the Hippo pathway in the stem cell biology and its potential implications in tis-sue homeostasis and cancer.

Objective To investigate the beneficial effects and possible mechanisms of intrathecal injection of dexmedetomidine (DEX) in protection of spinal cord ischemia-reperfusion injury.Methods Spinal cord ischemia-reperfusion injury was induced in rabbits by infrarenal aortic occlusion for 30 minutes.Twenty-four rabbits were randomly divided into four groups:sham group,I/R group,DEX group (1 μg/kg dexmedetomidine by intrathecal injection),DEX + ATIP group (1 μg/kg dexmedetomidine and 0.5 μg/kg atipamezole (ATIP) by intrathecal injection).Physiological indices were assessed and motor neurons in the ventral gray matter were counted by histological examination.The expression of total extracellular signal-related kinase (t-ERK),phospho-extracellular signal-related kinase (p-ERK),and caspase 3 were assessed by Western blotting and real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR).The water content in spines was also measured.Results Intrathecal injection of dexmedetomidine minimized the neuromotor dysfunction and histopathological deficits(F =14.32,P ＜ 0.05) and attenuated the influences of peroxidation at 24 hours after spinal cord ischemia-reperfusion injury.The physical indices during experiment were comparable among all groups.In addition,intrathecal injection of dexmedetomidine reduced the excessive expression of caspase 3 mediated by ERK signal pathway(F =15.45,P ＜ 0.05).Conclusions Pre-emptive intrathecal injection of dexmedetomidine produced beneficial effects on spinal cord after spinal cord ischemia-reperfusion injury in a rabbit model of transient aortic occlusion.This beneficial effect was partly attributed to the inhibition of caspase 3 mediated by ERK signal pathway,which represents a potential therapeutic approach to mitigate spinal cord injury after aortic occlusion.
