Objective To evaluate the role of CT in the diagnosis of the primary carcinoma of the duodenum.Methods CT findings of 15 patients with primary carcinoma of the duodenum(12 adenocarcinoma,3 carcinoid)underwent surgical treatment or biopsy were reviewed.Results 9/12 of adenocarcinomas were shown as local soft tissues masses;6/12 of adenocarcinomas manifested as ductal wall irregular or circular thickening;3/12 of adenocarcinomas were shown as local soft tissues masses accompanied with deformation and constriction of duodenum.Cholangiectasis,metastasis of retroperitoneal lymph nodes and liver were also founded.CT cannot difference adenocarcinoma with carcinoid.After enhancement,the masses were manifested as mild or intermediate enhancement in the early stage and they did not show obviously enhancement in the delay or portal stage.Conclusion CT play an important role in both the localization and qualitative diagnosis of the primary carcinoma of duodenum,but it is difficult to difference adenocarcinoma with carcinoid.

Objective To understand enterprises' demands for health management. Methods Self-designed questionnaires were distributed to senior managing directors from 104 enterprises in Jingzhou City of Hubei Province. The counting data were expressed as percentage or accumulated percentage. Results The main health problems in Jingzhou City were chronic diseases (28.4%), unhealthy behaviors (40. 1% ), occupational diseases ( 22. 8% ), and enviromental pollution ( 8.7% ). Health service needs of enterprises included health speeches (37.2%),health consultation (53.8%),medical report interpretation (43. 2% ), nutrition intake guidance ( 10. 5% ), and green passage medical treatment ( 14. 7% ).Conclusion All the enterprises show strong needs for health management. Establishing appropriate health management model may have better prospects.

Objective To study the association between serum concentrations of total testosterone levels and coronary heart disease (CHD) in the postmenopausal women. Methods The study was designed as a case-control study.394 postmenopausal female patients were selected from Cardiology Center of the First Affiliated Hospital of Xinjiang Medical University.The case group included 183 women patients with CHD aged (62.7±8.0) years,the control group,211 women with normal coronary aged (60.0 ± 8.8) years. Blood samples were collected to determine total testosterone,fasting glucose and lipid profile. CHD severity was expressed as the numbers of coronary arteries that had a stenosis ≥50％.According to the level of testosteron,all cases were divided into 4 groups by interquartile range method:Q1＜3.5 nmol/L(n=190),3.5 nmol/L≤Q2 ＜10.4 nmol/L(n=64),10.4 nmol/L≤Q3 ＜26.0 nmol/L(n=120) and Q4≥26.0 nmol/L(n=20).The association between the serum total testosterone levels and severity of coronary atherosclerosis was analyzed. Results The average total testosterone was higher in case group than in control group[(10.4 ± 24.3 ) nmol/L vs. ( 6.9 ± 17.4 ) nmol/L,Z =0.79,P =0.555].In Quantitative adjusted models,higher levels of total testosterone had strong correlation with CHD,Q4 incidence of CHD (75.0％,15 cases) was significantly higher than Q1 (46.8％,89 cases),Q2 (40.6％,26 cases)and Q3 (44.2％,53 cases) (x2 =7.69,P=0.048).After adjustment for other risk factors,women in the top quartile of total testosterone levels had a more than 3-fold increase in odds of CHD(OR=3.47,95％CI:1.06-11.32,P＜0.05).In addition,the serum concentrations of total testosterone level were significantly associated with the severity of CHD (F=12.94,P＜0.05). Conclusions Higher levels of total testosterone may be associated with high prevalence and severity of CHD as an independent factor in postmenopausal women.

Tibetan medicine Asteris Flos is the flowers of Aster souliei, A. flaccidus, and A. asteroides, with the function of clearing away heat and toxic matter, relieving cough, and removing phlegm. In order to control the quality of Asteris Flos, the morphological and chemical methods were established for identification of three origins. The morphological features of three species were described and photographed, and the microscopic characteristics of three drug powders were also described in detail and pictured. The results showed that three origins of Asteris Flos could be easily distinguished by their macro- and micro-morphologic features, and a key for distinguishing the three origins was given. Moreover, a TLC method, with apigenin-7-O-β-D-glucurono pyranoside and chlorogenic acid as chemical references, was also established for the identification of three origins. The results showed that the TLC chromatograms of the flowers of A. souliei and A. flaccidus were very similar, but different from that of A. asteroides. The established macroscopic, powder microscopic and TLC methods for identification of three origins of AF were simple, accurate, and reproducible, and also effective and easy to operate.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the relation between endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS) gene polymorphism and IgA nephropathy (IgAN).

METHODSThe variable number of tandem repeats (VNTR) polymorphism of eNOS gene was analyzed with PCR in 296 Chinese Han patients with IgAN groups and 310 healthy Han subjects from Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei Province, and the gene frequency and allele frequency were compared between the two groups.

RESULTSIn these Chinese Han subjects involved in this study, VNTR of eNOS gene showed 3 genetypes, namely eNOS4a, eNOS4b and eNOS4a/4b. No significant difference was found in the gene frequency between IgAN group and the healthy subjects.

CONCLUSIONSIgAN is not associated with VNTR polymorphism of eNOS gene, and no sufficient evidence has been obtained to establish the relation of eNOS VNTR polymorphism with the genetic factors of IgAN. The role of eNOS gene polymorphism in IgAN can be heterogeneous in regard to different races or areas.

The identity of higher-order neurons and circuits playing an associative role to control renal function is notwell understood.We identified specific neural populations of rostral elements of brain regions that project multisynaptically to the kidneys in 3~ days after injecting a retrograde tracer pseudorabies virus (PRV)-614 into kidney of 13 adult male C57BL/6J strain mice.PRV-614 infected neurons were detected in a number of mesencephalic (e.g.central amygdala nucleus),telencephalic regions and motor cortex.These divisions included the preoptic area (POA),dorsomedial hypothalamus (DMH),lateral hypothalamus,arcuate nucleus (Arc),suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN),periventricular hypothalamus (PeH),and rostral and caudal subdivision of the paraventricular nucleus of the hypothalamus (PVN).PRV-614/Tyrosine hydroxylase (TH) double-labeled cells were found within DMH,Arc,SCN,PeH,PVN,the anterodorsal and medial POA.A subset of neurons in PVN that participated in regulating sympathetic outflow to kidney was catecholaminergic or serotonergic.PRV-614 infected neurons within the PVN also contained arginine vasopressin or oxytocin.These data demonstrate the rostral elements of brain innervate the kidney by the neuroanatomical circuitry.

Results from the transplantation of donor spermatogonia into xenogeneic recipient seminiferous tubules indicate that donor germ cells are capable of differentiating to form spermatozoa with morphological character of the donor species. With the advances in freezing, culturing in vitro and enriching germ cell populations, germ cell transplantation procedures have applications of paramount values in medicine, basic science and animal reproduction. Additionally, these techniques can serve as an alternative approach for gonadal protection and fertility preservation especially in patients accepting large dose of chemotherapy or radiotherapy. In this article we reviewed the recent advances in xenogeneic transplantation of spermatogonial stem cell and also analyzed the potential problems existing in its clinical application.

OBJECTIVETo evaluate the effect of different silane couplers on bond strength and durability of two machinable glass ceramics to resin cement.

METHODSTwo machinable glass ceramics (A and B) were silanized by three silane couplers (A, B, C), and were bonded with a resin cement (G-CEM) to form micro-shear test specimens of six groups. The specimens of each group were subdivided into two subgroups, and their micro-shear bond strength was measured before and after 10000 thermal cycles. Bond strength data were analyzed by two-way ANOVA.

RESULTSBefore thermal cycles, the bond strength of ceramic A treated by silane coupler A was lower than that of ceramic B (P = 0.002). The bond strength of ceramic A treated by silane coupler C was significantly higher than that treated by silane coupler A and B (P = 0.014, P = 0.019). 10 000 thermal cycles obviously decreased the bond strength of all groups except the group of ceramic A treated by silane coupler B, and no significant difference was found between three silane coupler with either of two ceramic. However the bond strength of ceramic B treated by silane coupler B and C was significantly higher than that of ceramic A (P = 0.003, P = 0.027).

CONCLUSIONAs well as the types of silane coupler, the type of ceramic could affect their bond strength and durability to resin cement.

Objective This study was operated to investigate the association between urinary albumin-to-creatinine ratio (UACR) and physical situations as hypertension and prehypertension among women.Methods Blood pressure,height,weight and waist circumference were measured and factors such as cigarette smoking,alcohol intake,family history of hypertension,were investigated.Blood glucose and lipid,serum uric acid,urinary albumin and urinary creatinine were tested on 1796 women aged ≥30 years living in the Jinchang district of Suzhou.Associations between UACR and hypertension as well as prehypertension were analyzed,by using ordinal multinomial logistic regression models.Results The mean levels of UACR were 15.54 (7.67,32.53),9.01 ( 5.45,18.06),7.13 (4.60,12.50 ) mg/g and the rates of higher UACR were 27.57％,13.42％,9.61％ in hypertensive,pre-hypertensive and normotensive subjects,respectively,with significant differences noticed among the three groups (P＜0.05).The average systolic blood pressure/diastolic blood pressure appeared to be 125.3/80.9,128.8/82.7,130.8/84.0 and 135.1/85.9 mm Hg for participants with UACR in the first,second,third and fourth quartile,respectively.The risks of prehypertension or hypertension increased with increasing UACR levels.Dose-response relationship was seen between UACR and risks of prehypertension or hypertension.Multivariable adjusted odds ratios (95％CI) of prehypertension or hypertension in the upper quartiles of UACR were 1.32 ( 1.02,1.70),1.72 ( 1.32,2.24),and 2.37 (1.80,3.11 ),respectively,when compared with the lowest quartile.Conclusion Elevated UACR was associated with both hypertension and prehypertension among women.
