Synovial sarcoma is a rare tumour found in soft tissue; it is a mesenchymal spindle cell tumour that is not related to the synovial membrane. This tumour has a low incidence, and the most frequent place of occurrence is the lower extremities in young adults. Synovial sarcoma of the head and neck accounts for 3%-5% of sarcomas in this anatomical region. The tumor in the nasal cavity is less than 1%. The treatment of choice for synovial sarcoma of the head and neck is complete surgical excision of the tumour mass followed by adjuvant radiotherapy.

OBJECTIVETo evaluate the applicability of immune-related response criteria (irRC) in treating non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) by Chinese medicine (CM).
METHODSTotally 97 stage III a-IV NSCLC patients were predominantly treated with comprehensive CM. Curative effects were evaluated by three methods such as Response Evaluation Criteria in Solid Tumors (RECIST), Oncologic Curative Effect Evaluation Criteria of Chinese Medicine in Solid Tumor (draft, abbreviated as CM criteria), and irRC. The correspondency and consistency between irRC, RECIST and CM criteria were analyzed and compared. The objectivity of irRC in evaluating curative effect of Chinese medical treatment for NSCLC was assessed.
RESULTSThe correspondency rate of irRC to RECIST was 59. 79% with Kappa value of 0. 379 (U test, P <0. 01). The two criteria had certain correspondence, but with an unsatisfactory consistency. The correspondency rate of irRC to CM criteria rate was 83. 51% with Kappa value of 0.751 (U test, P <0. 01). The two criteria had good correspondence and consistency.
CONCLUSIONSCM criteria had good consistency with CM criteria in evaluating curative effect for Chinese medical treatment of advanced NSCLC. Its results could objectively reflect features and advantages of CM for treating advanced NSCLC.

Objective To investigate the differential expression of miR-155 in newly diagnosed pediatric acute myeloid leukemia(AML) and its clinical significances. Methods Fifty-two AML children and 30 non-malignant disease matched children were recruited as the controls. The preliminary AML children were divided into favorable group, moderate group and poor group according to the National Comprehensive Cancer Network(NCCN) 2013.Real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction was applied to validate the expressions of miR-155 in bone marrow samples (the data presented by 2-△△Ct).Results By comparing expressions of miR-155 between AML patients and controls, the miR-155 expressions were significantly higher in the AML children than those in the controls (Z =-5.391,P < 0.001).There were significant differences among different prognostic groups, with a significantly lower level in the favorable group compared with others (x2 =12.586,P =0.002).It was also found that differential expressions existed not only in kinds of mutation cohort, with the highest level in FLT3-ITD and the lowest one in FLT3-TKD mutation group (x2 =11.216,P =0.024),but also among fusion gene subgroups (x2 =12.254,P =0.016),with the highest level in AML-ETO group and the lowest level in PML-RARa group:meanwhile, the expressions of miR-155 were statistic different according to French-America-British (FAB) subtypes (x2 =17.814,P =0.013),which was lower in M3 patients than non-M3 patients (Z =-3.291,P =0.001).Conclusions It indicates that the expressions of miR-155 may increase sharply in preliminary AML children, and the lower expression of miR-155 is closely related to favorable prognosis.

Objective The purpose of this study was to prepare RGD4C modified ferritin nanocages (RGD4C-FRT) for targeted drug delivery to rat hepatic stellate cells (HSC-T6). Methods RGD4C modified human H-chain ferritin was expressed and purified. Doxorubicin (Dox) was encapsulated into the cavity of RGD4C-FRT through ion channels, which resulted in RGD4C-FRT-Dox. The target of RGD4C-FRT-Dox to HSC-T6 was detected using fluorescence microscopy. Results Transmission electron microscopy showed that RGD4C-FRT was hollow spherical-structured with uniform size and good dispersion. The average particle diameters of RGD4C-FRT and RGD4C-FRT-Dox were 12.57 nm and 20.13 nm , respectively. The drug encapsulation efficiency and loading percentage of RGD4C-FRT-Dox were 77.32% and 15.88% respectively. RGD4C-FRT-Dox was significantly uptaken by HSC-T6, and the uptake could be blocked by the empty carrier RGD4C-FRT. Conclusion RGD4C-FRT-Dox can specifically target HSC-T6. Further animal experiments are needed to inspect its therapeutic effect on liver fibrosis.

Objective To investigate the correction of manual monitor unit calculation for asymmetric fields using the Varian enhanced dynamic wedge. Methods Monitor unit (MU) was calculated when the field sizes ranged from 6 cm × 6 cm to 20 cm × 20 cm at a depth of 5 cm using Varian Eclipse and both 6 MV and 10 MV X-rays data from Varian Clinac 23EX for all seven available EDW angles, including 10°15°,20°,25°,30°,45°and 60° The field size was kept fixed, and the distance between geometry center of field and isocenter was increased in increments of 1 cm,ranging from -9 cm to 4 cm.When the field size was the same, the correction factor was defined as the ratio of MU calculated for asymmetric field to monitor unit calculated for symmetric field. To ensure the correction factors obtained above could be used in routine manual calculation for EDW fields, measurements were made at a depth of 5 cm for 30°and 45°EDW with field size of 10 cm × 10 cm using 6 MV X-rays.Results The correction factor was independent of field dimensions,so the average value was adopted to make practical calculation.Without correction, the maximum error was 18% for 30°,and 30% for 45.After the results of monitor unit calculation were corrected, the largest error was - 1.8% and - 1.7% for 30° and 45°EDW,respectively.The magnitude of errors was within the clinical tolerance limits. Conclusions For asymmetric EDW fields, there is very large difference between the prescribed dose by manual calculation using EDW factors measured for symmetric fields and that delivered during treatment in order to obtain correct dose to reference point. The errors are decreased to be acceptable after correction. The method of correction is simple and independent of machine specific beam parameters.

Phytoestrogens, which can bind with estrogen receptor and produce estrogen-like effects, are a kind of nonsteroidal compound in plant. Phytoestrogens chemically include isoflavones, coumarins, lignans and other compounds. Phytoestrogens are selective estrogen receptor modulator, and have therapeutical effects on breast cancer, prostate cancer, cardiovascular disease, menopausal symptoms, osteoporosis and other disease, however, do not produce stimulatory hyperplasia effects on uterus, mammary glands and other tissues and organs with positive estrogen receptor. Long-term exposure or excessive use of phytoestrogens maybe affects male reproductive system and hematopoietic function of fetus. Some questions need to be further studied, such as evaluation criteria on biological activity, adverse effects, and action mechanism of phytoestrogen. This review covers plant sources, chemical structure, pharmacological activity and safety of phytoestrogens. It will provide a useful reference for intensive research and rational utilization the phytoestrogens.
