The measurement of pressure between tongue and the hard palate during swallowing is an evaluation method which is noninvasive and accurately quantitative. This article reviewed the measurement of tongue pressure, the changes of pressure in different poses, bolus types and people, as well as the prediction of dysphagia according to tongue pressure.

Objective: To study the effects of chromium on glucose and lipid metabolism and gene expression in diabetic rats. Methods: Male Wistar rats were assigned to three groups:normal control(NC), alloxan-induced diabetic control group(DM), and DM with chromium supplementation group(DM+Cr). Cr 200 ?g/(kg bw?d) was supplemented orally for 60 days. At the end of the treatment, the blood glucose, lipid and serum insulin were measured, and the changes in gene expression among three groups were studied by mRNA differential display technique. Results: Blood glucose in DM+Cr group decreased significantly than that before experiment. The levels of serum TG, TC, LDL-C and AI in DM+Cr group were lower than those of DM group, while the serum HDL-C levels were higher. Serum insulin was not improved obviously in DM+Cr group. 11 cDNA fragments larger than 400 bp expressed differences in skeletal muscles between DM+Cr group and DM group and were isolated, 4 of which expressed higher in DM+Cr group, while the rest expressed higher in DM group. Conclusion: Chromium supplementation could partially improve the disorders of glucose and lipid metabolism, and have an impact on some gene expression in diabetic rats, which may contribute to the regulating effects on its disorders of metabolism.

Objective To analyze the incidence of stress hyperglycemia and its influential factors in patients with acute myocardial infarction and cerebral infarction. Methods The case data of 1630 consecutive patients with incipient myocardial infarction without cerebrovascular disease admitted in the department of cardiology and 1338 patients with atherosclerotic acute cerebral infarction without cardiovascular disease admitted in the department of neurology,Xuanwu Hospital,Capital Medical University from January 2009 to December 2012 were analyzed retrospectively. A total of 2048 patients without diabetes mellitus were selected from them, among them 1165 patients were in an acute myocardial infarction group and 883 were in a cerebral infarction group. The fasting blood glucose >7. 8 mmol/L in the next morning after admission was defined as hyperglycemia. Single factor and multifactor logistic regression analyses were used to compare the incidence of stress hyperglycemia and its influential factors of both groups. Results ( 1 ) Of the 1165 patients with myocardial infarction, the incidence of stress hyperglycemia was 17. 2% (n=201);of the 883 patients with cerebral infarction, the incidence of stress hyperglycemia was 5.4% (n=48). There was significant difference between the 2 group (χ2= 65.677;P < 0. 01). (2) Comparing the general information of the patients with stress hyperglycemia (n=249) and those without stress hyperglycemia ( n=1799) of the cardio-cerebrovascular diseases showed that there were significant differences in hyperlipidemia, drinking history, family history of cardio-cerebrovascular diseases, age, heart rate, total cholesterol, low density lipoprotein cholesterol, leukocyte count, blood urea nitrogen, and triacylglycerols between the 2 groups (P<0. 05). (3) Multivariate Logistic analysis showed that heart rate ( OR,1. 013,95%CI 1.002-1.024),leukocyte count (OR,1.109,95%CI 1.508-1.163),and triacylglycerols(OR,1.174, 95%CI 1. 042-1. 322) were the independent risk factors for stress hyperglycemia in myocardial infarction. (4) Systolic blood pressure (OR,1. 019,95% CI 1. 006-1.033) and leukocyte count (OR,1. 132,95%CI 1. 009-1. 268) were the independent risk factors for stress hyperg lycemia in cerebral infarction. Conclusion The incidence of stress hyperglycemia in patients with myocardial infarction is higher than that in patients with cerebral infarction, and the increased leukocyte count is a common independent risk factor for both.

Body iron store is one of the important aspects of the iron status in a population. According to the model established by Cook and Finch, the iron stores of 254 middle-aged Chinese women were estimated. The median of iron stores was calculated to be -282 mg with the 5th percentile of -630 mg and the 95th percentile of 32 mg respectively. The risk factors of iron deficiency in these middle-aged women were menorrhagia (RR 4.55), application of intrauterine device (RR 1.88), history of blood loss (RR 1.65), and chronic gastrointestinal diseases (RR 0.84). The key point of the application of the Cook's model was discussed.

Objective To explore the role of protein kinase C(PKC) to regulate the activation of nuclear factor-?B(NF-?B)in T lymphocyte in children with acute idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura(ITP).Methods Sterility peripheral blood was collected from acute ITP children(n=30)and healthy children(n=30).T lymphocytes were isolated and purified, and divided into 3 groups:control group,PMA group stimulated with PMA,PMA plus H-7 group stimulated with PMA and H-7.The expression of NF-?B and inhibitor protein-?B(I-?B)was detected by immunohistochemical staining and Western blot, respectively. Results The percentage of cells with active NF-?B was significantly higher and the expression level of I-?B was significantly lower in acute ITP PMA group than that in acute ITP control group and normal PMA group, respectively(all P

OBJECTIVETo investigate the effect of different length and diameters on the stability of mini implant and to select optimal length and diameter using continuous variation of parameters.
METHODSTo perform 3-dimensional finite element analysis, finite element models of a maxilla, and mini implants with length of 6-12 mm and diameters of 1.2-2.0 mm were generated. Load of two different forces were applied to the head of mini implant. One type was horizontal force (HF), the other was composite force (CF). The maximum equivalent stress (Max EQV) in maxilla and the maximum displacement (Max DM) of mini implant were evaluated.
RESULTSThe Max EQV in maxilla and Max DM of mini implant decreased as length and diameter increased. When length was more than 9 mm, the evaluation indexes were small and had a less change. Datas indicated that diameter played a more important role in reducing target, and was a more effective parameter in reducing Max EQV when CF was loaded.
CONCLUSIONFrom biomechanical point of view, the choice of the length should not be more than 9 mm. When CF is loaded using the mini implant, diameter exceeding 1.2 mm are optimal design for mini implant.

Aim To evaluate the effects of pantoprazole on various experimental acute ulcer inrats and mice. Methods The model of a gastric ulcer of rats or mice was caused bystree- induced ulcer and ligatel pylurus-induced ulcer. Results & Conclusions At adose of 5, 10, 20 mg? kg-1 of Pantoprazole can markedly decrease the ulcer index ofstree-induced ulcer. Pantoprazole(4, 8, 16 mg? kg -1 ) significantly decrease the areaof ligated pylorus-induced gastric ulcer. It was also found that pantoprazole caninhibit the output of basic gastric acid.
