Chinese Journal of Medical Education Research 2013;(3):312-314
The definition of rehabilitation should reflect the connotation and extension of rehabilitation medicine system, moreover, special attention should be paid to the process of translation, applications and promotion due to its derivation from Latin. The fourth edition of rehabilitation medicine textbook which published by People's Medical Publishing House described the definition of rehabilitation inaccurately, although integrated the foreign authority definitions. The definition of ‘ re-learning’has been described by the textbook without considering logical sequence, which caused difficulty in explaining and comprehending between teachers and students in class.Besides, application of another term of rehabilitation medicine in the textbook is imprudence.

OBJECTIVETo observe the effect of electroacupuncture (EA) combined with ultraviolet therapy on herpes zoster at the acute stage and the impacts on serum interleukin 2 (IL-2), interleukin 6 (IL-6) and interleukin 10 (IL-10) in the patients.
METHODSThirty-four patients of herpes zoster were randomized into a medicine group and a combined therapy group, 17 cases in each one. In the medicine group, the intravenous drops with acyclovir injection, muscular injection with cobamamide and the topical with acyclovir ointment were applied. Additionally, TDP was radiated locally. In the combined therapy group, on the basis of the treatment as the medicine group, EA and ultraviolet therapy were supplemented. The duration of treatment was 10 days in the two groups. Before and after treatment, blister relief, incrustation time and the visible analogue scale (VAS) were recorded in the two groups. The clinical efficacy was assessed in the two groups and the levels of serum IL-2, IL-6 and IL-10 were determined in the two groups.
RESULTSIn the combined therapy group, the time of blister relief and incrustation was earlier apparently than that in the medicine group (both P<0.05). VAS score after treatment were reduced as compared with that before treatment in the two groups (both P<0.01), and the reducing amplitude in the combined therapy group was larger than that in the medicine group (P<0.01). The total effective rate was 94. 1% (16/17) in the combined therapy group, higher than 76.4% (13/17) in the medicine group (P<0.05). After treatment, IL-2 levels were increased as compared with those before treatment in the two groups (both P<0.05), the levels of IL-6 and IL-10 were reduced obviously as compared with those before treatment in the two groups (all P<0.01). After treatment, the levels of IL-6, IL-10 were reduced much more apparently in the combined therapy group as compared with those in the medicine group (both P<0.05).
CONCLUSIONEA combined with ultraviolet irradiation more rapidly and effectively relief the symptoms of herpes zoster, significantly relief pain, shorten the duration of sickness, improve the body immunity and reduce nerve injury.

Objective To investigate the preventive effects of epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) on growth and metastases of orthotropic colonic cancer. Methods Forty BALB/C male nude mice were prepared for model of colonic cancer and then divided into control group and low-, medium- and high-dose of EGCG groups with 10 each. Except control group, the mice in other three groups were treated with 5, 10 and 20 mg·kg~(-1)·d~(-1) of EGCG. The effect of EGCG on growth and metastases of colonic cancer was observed. The histopathologic changes of liver and lung were observed with HE, and protein expression of NF-E2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) in cancerous tissue was detected by immunohistochemistry. RT-PCR was used to examine mRNA levels of Nrf2, UDP-glucuronosyhrans-ferase (UGT)1A, UGT1A8 and UGT1A10. Results In comparison with control group [(564±130) mg], the average weight of the tumor in low-, medium- and high-dose groups was (152±63) mg, (76±42) mg and (18±10)mg, respectively, with tumor inhibitory rate of 73.0%, 86.5% and 96.8%, respectively (all P value<0.05). There was a positive correlation between tumor inhibitory effect and dosage of EGCG (P<0.05). The protein expression of Nrf2 and the mRNA levels of Nrf2, UGT1A, UGTIA8 and UGTIA10 in three EGCG treated groups were increased significantly compared with control group (P<0.05), and there was a phenomenon of nuclear transcription of Nrf2. Conclusions EGCG can prevent local growth and metastases of orthotopic colonic cancer in a dose-dependent manner in nude mice. The inhibitory effect may be caused by inducing the expressions of Nrf2, UGT1A, UGT1A8 and UGT1A10 genes.

A new organic-soluble co-reactant of N,N,N’,N’-tetrakis(propyl)-pentanediamine (TPPD) was synthesized and co-immobilized with tris ( 2, 2’-bipyridine ) ruthenium ditetrakis ( 4-chlorophenyl ) borate ([Ru(bpy)3][4-(Clph)4B]2) on an indium tin oxide (ITO) electrode for electrochemiluminescent (ECL) study. The hydrophobicity of TPPD prevented its leakage from the electrode surface, thus the long-term stability of the ECL electrode was enhanced. The TPPD/[Ru(bpy)3][4-(Clph)4B]2 modified-ITO electrode exhibited strong, stable and reproducible ECL signal. The ECL signal could be quenched efficiently by phenol with a quenching efficiency of 95. 4% in the presence of 0. 1 mmol/L phenol, demonstrating the potential of the modified electrode in determination of phenolic compounds. The transient-state of the electrogenerated chemiluminescence reaction was also investigated, which revealed that the TPPD/[Ru(bpy)3][4-(Clph)4B]2 modified-ITO electrode had a longer lifetime than conventional TPA-Ru(bpy)2+3 co-reactant system.
