Objective: To establish an animal model for research of maxillary protraction. Methods: 16 pubertal rabbits were assigned randomly to 2 groups. Titanium bone markers were fixed on each side of mucogingival junction, 1 cm above incisor teeth. The experimental group underwent maxillary protraction by self-made distraction devices. A down and forward elastic force (about 3.43 N) was exerted for 30 days. Results: In 30 d, the distance of premaxilla movement in the experimental group was 1.89 mm averagely, while that in the control group was only 0.11 mm. Cephalometric analysis indicated that the maxilla of rabbits was moved forward obviously by appliance in the experimental group, and maxilla was not rotated. There was no obvious difference between the control and the experimental groups. Conclusion: Animal model used in this experiment for maxillary protraction is reliable. The appliance can move the rabbits maxilla forward obviously during the maxillary protraction.

The five-flavor theory of traditional Chinese medicines (TCM) and the flavor efficacy generation mechanism has long been focuses and difficulties in studies on traditional Chinese medicinal properties. In this paper, by using the pharmacophore-based virtual screening technique, the authors discussed the relations between the pungent property and transient receptor potential vanilloid 1 (TRPV1) by studying the TCM components' role in regulating TRPV1 ion channel. The results showed that the matching relationship between TRPV1 agonist pharmacophore model and TCM chemical components could identify the active ingredients from pungent herbs. Therefore, the authors proposed that TRPV1 is one of the potential targets for efficient pungent herbs. The pungent property of TCMs is decided by its chemical components, and consistent with the inherited and additive characteristics.

Objective To explore the impact of broad antigen HLA-Bw4 on disease progression in HIV-1 infected subjects. Methods Three hundred and forty subjects chronically infected with HIV-1 and 69 HIV-1 negative subjects were recruited and HLA-B alleles were typed with sequence-based high resolution typing assay. HLA-Bw genotypes of these HIV-1 infected subjects were determined and their association with CD4+ T cell counts and viral loads were analyzed. Results Sixty-five HLA-B alleles were detected in HIV-1 positive subjects. Subjects with Bw4 (Bw4 homozygotes and Bw4Bw6 heterozygotes ) had higher CD4+ T cell counts ( P = 0. 004 ) and lower plasma viral load ( P = 0.003 ) than subjects without Bw4 ( Bw6 homozygotes). When compared with HIV-1 postive subjects with CD4+ T cell counts above 500 celis/μl, those with CD4+ T cell counts below 500 cells/μl were observed with decreased percentage of Bw4Bw6 heterozygote ( P =0.0002) and increased percentage of Bw6 homozygotes ( P < 0. 0001 ). There is no significant difference in CD4+ T cell counts between Bw4 homozygotes and Bw4Bw6 heterozygote, but lower viral loads were observed in Bw4Bw6 heterozygotes( P = 0. 037 ). Conclusion HLA-Bw4 can confer pretective effects on H1V-1 infected subjects by maintaining higher CD4+ T cell counts and lower viral load, the mechanism behind this effect need further exploration.

Objective To determine the frequency of polymorphism at exon 26 (C3435T) of muhidrug resistance 1 gene (MDR1) in epileptic patients in the southern Chinese and to study the association of this polymorphism with pharmacoresistance. Methods DNA samples were obtained from 134 patients,of whom 72 were resistant to antiepileptic drug treatment and 62 were responsive to the treatment. Genotypes of the C3435T polymorphism were determined by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) followed by restriction digestion and gel electrophoresis.Genotype and allele frequencies in the drug resistant group were compared to those in the response group by Chi-square analysis. Results Of all 134 patients,33 (24.6%) had CC genotype,72 (53.7%) had CT genotype, and 29 (21.6%) had TT genotype. The frequency of CC genotype was significantly higher in the pharmaeoresistance group (33.3%) than that in the responsive group (14.5%,P=0.012).The frequency of the C allele was also significantly higher in the pharmacoresistance group (57.6%) than that in the responsive group (44.4%,P=0.03).When patients were divided by types of seizure into three groups:generalized seizure group, partial seizure group, and undefined seizure group, the CC genotype and C allele were associated with pharmacoresistance in the partial seizure group. Conclusions In the southern Chinese, the CC genotype and C allele are associated with resistance to the antiepileptic treatment. This finding needs to be verified in studies with larger sample size.
9.Research progress of microstrabismus
International Eye Science 2021;21(5):840-842
Microstrabismus is a kind of small angle strabismus, sometimes negative in cover test, accompanied by clinical characteristics such as abnormal retinal correspondence, eccentric fixation, amblyopia and rough stereopsis. Microstrabismus amblyopia treatment is very difficult, especially in eccentric fixation. In daily diagnosis and treatment, the microstrabismus often misdiagnosed due to the small squint degree and the negative coverage test, failed to be treated properly and in-time, the patient's eccentric fixation and fixation instability also been ignored, treated as normal amblyopia, while the result is not effective, sometimes even leads opposite effect, so it's important to recognize the microstrabismus.
10.Multifocal electroretinogram manifestation of strabismic amblyopia with eccentric central fixation
International Eye Science 2021;21(9):1653-1656
AIM: To explore the characteristic changes of multifocal electroretinogram(mfERG)in strabismic amblyopia eyes with eccentric fixation.
METHODS: A total of 20 patients with strabismus amblyopia and eccentric fixation visited our hospital from January 2018 to December 2020 were collected as the study group(4 patients with exotropia and 16 patients with esotropia), while 20 patients with ametropic amblyopia were collected as the control group. The mfERG was examined under the state of mydriasis, and the amplitude density and incubation period of P1 wave were recorded.
RESULTS: Compared with the fellow eyes, the first ring(P=0.001), the second ring(P<0.001), the third ring(P=0.001), the fourth ring(P=0.009)and the fifth ring(P=0.026)of strabismus amblyopia eyes were reduced significantly. Compared with the control group, the first ring(P=0.033), the second ring(P=0.002), the third ring(P<0.001)and the fourth ring(P=0.014)of strabismus amblyopia eyes were reduced significantly. The incubation period of amblyopia eyes in the strabismus group showed significantly shortened in the first ring(P=0.017)and the second ring(P=0.001)compared with the fellow eyes, and in the second ring(P=0.007)compared with the control group.
CONCLUSION: The amplitude density of mfERG P1 wave in strabismic amblyopia eyes with eccentric fixation reduced more with the closer to macular fovea, and reduced more significantly than that in the ametropic amblyopia eyes.
