Objective To determine the effects of a 12-week aerobic exercise program on brachial-ankle pulse wave velocity ( baPWV) in sedentary and under-exercised healthy older adults. Methods A total of 35 sedentary and unfit but healthy older adults with mean age of 74.7 years were randomly assigned to a progressively increased intensity aerobic exercise group ( n = 17) or a control group ( n = 18). The exercise group performed aerobic exercise 3 times each week for 12 weeks. The control group didn't participate in the exercise program. Heart rate, blood pressure and baPWV were evaluated at admission to the aerobic exercise program and at the end of the 12 weeks in both groups. Results The mean baPWV in the aerobic exercise group decreased from 15.88 m/s to 14.62 m/s after exercise, a significant reduction. Blood pressure in the exercise group showed a decrease which was not significant. No significant improvement was identified in the control group. Conclusions Only 12 weeks of aerobic exercise with progressively increased intensity can improve arterial elasticity in sedentary and unfit older adults.

Objective Hypercellularity in proliferan've glomerulonephritis can result from either increased proliferation or the failure of cells to undergo apoptosis in response to stimuli. Increasing evidence supports that alterations in the control of cell survival are important in the pathogenesis of proliferative glomerulonephritis. Methods Apoptotic cells in the glomeruli have been analyzed by the in situ end labeling (ISEL) of TdT from patients diagnosed with membranoproliferative glomerulonephritis (MPGN, n = 12), type IV lupus nephritis (LN, n = 15) and acute postinfectious glomerulonephritis (APGN, n = 13) in the present study. In addition, the proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA)-positive proliferating glomerular cells were observed by immunochemical 4 layer PAP method in these patients. Results The ratio of proliferating and apoptotic cells was the highest one in patients with MPGN (3.91) as compared to APGN (1.28) and LN(1 .02). The extends of increasing apoptotic cells in the glomeruli were different among patients with MPGN,, APGN and LN, although all of them showed extremely glomerular hypercellularity. The number of apoptotic glomemlar cells was significantly higher in patients with APGN (1.16?0.35) than those with MPGN (0.12?0.16) as well as LN patients (0.35 ? 0.20). Conclusion Apoptosis is essential in the resolution of glomerular cellularity together with the remodeling processes. Intense proliferations without increment in apoptosis are the characterisitics of MPGN and LN associated with their renal histological changes and prognosis.

Objective To investigate the relationshp among Gp Ⅱ b/ⅡⅢ a、CD62p in platelet activation mark-er and high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) in elderly patients with chronic cor pulmonary exacerbation. Methods The subjects were divided into four groups (42 elderly patients with cor pulmonary exacerbation,42 eld-erly patients with cot pulmonary remission,30 cases of healthy elderly subjects and 30 cases of healthy non-elderly subjects) . The expression of Gp Ⅱ b/Ⅲ a and CD62p were measured with tricolor flow cytometry. Hs-CRP levels were measured by nephelometry and turbidimetry in patients and normal controls. Results Compared with cor pul-monary remission group, healthy elderly group and healthy non-elderly group, the levels of Gp Ⅱ b/Ⅲ a, CD62p and hs-CRP increased significantly in patients with chronic cor pulmonary exacerbation ( all P < 0.001 ). Gp Ⅱ b/Ⅲ a and CD62p results of the elderly patients with cot pulmonary remission were higher than those in healthy elderly subjects (P <0.05) and healthy non-elderly subjects (P < 0. 001 ) . The expressions of both Gp Ⅱ b/Ⅲa and CD62p in healthy elderly subjects were statistically higher than that in healthy non-elderly subjects ( P < 0.05 ). There was a positive con'elation between the Gp Ⅱ b/Ⅲ a、CD62p and hs-CRP in elderly patients with chronic cot pulmonary exac-erbation(r =0.59,P<0.01 ; r=0.54,P<0.01 ). Conclusions The platelet in elderly patients with chronic cot pulmonary exacerbation is overactivated, which is correlated with hs-CRP.

OBJECTIVETo identify the correlation of the volume of residual urine (VRU) with the severity of bladder outlet obstruction (BOO) and detrusor contractility in patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).
METHODSA total of 152 patients with clinically diagnosed BPH underwent ultrasonography for measurement of the prostate volume and RVU, free uroflowmetry, and urodynamic examination for the severity of BOO and detrusor contractility. Using the software SPSS20. 0, we analyzed the correlation between the ultrasonographic results and urodynamic parameters and compared the two sample means by the t-test.
RESULTSThe prostate volume was correlated positively with BOO severity (r = 0.432, P < 0.01) and detrusor contractility (r = 0.343 , P < 0.01) while Qmax negatively with BOO severity (r = 0.327, P < 0.01) but not significantly with detrusor contractility (r = 0.123, P > 0.05). VRU showed a significantly negative correlation with detrusor contractility when > 150 ml (r = -0.490, P < 0.01), even more significantly when > 300 ml (r = -0.717, P < 0.01), but exhibited no significant correlation with it when ≤ 150 ml (r = 0.041, P > 0.05).
CONCLUSIONVRU can somehow predict the detrusor function. For patients with VRU > 150 ml, especially for those with VRU > 300 ml, the detrusor function should be evaluated and urodynamic examination is recommended for exact assessment of BOO severity and detrusor contractility.

Objective To establish a multi-drug resistant model of temporal lobe epilepsy, and to observe the changes of γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA) receptor expression in the hippocampal tissues so as to explore its effects in pharmacoresistant epileptogenesis. Methods One hundred rats were selected to prepare the amygdaloid kindled model of epilepsy by chronic stimulation of amygaloid basal lateral nucleus. After the kindled model of epilepsy was prepared successfully(n =52),pharmacoresistant epileptic rats were selected according to their response to the phenobabital and phenytoin. The selected pharmacoresistant epileptic rats (n =8)were sacrificed and the hippocampus was removed to determine the GABA receptor expression, and the same number of pharmacosensitive epileptic rats was used as control. Results The pharmacoresistant epileptic rats displayed degenerative and necrotic hippocampal neurons. The arrangement of hippocampal neurons was disordered, and the structural characteristics of the arrangement of the hippocampal neurons disappeared. The gray values of GABAA-positive neurons in the hippocampal tissues (141.15 ± 14.72) increased significantly compared with the pharmacosensitive epileptic rats (92.56 ± 5.17; t =3.380,P =0.006).Western blot method demonstrated that the band of GABAA became narrowed and thin. The relative quantity of GABAA in the hippocampal tissues (0.38 ± 0.08) decreased significantly as compared with the pharmacosensitive epileptic rats (0.88 ± 0.18).A significant difference was observed (t =5.420,P =0.002).Conclusions GABA receptor expression might be decreased in the hippocampal tissues of pharmacoresistant epileptic rats.It might play a certain role in the formation of pharnmacoresistant epilepsy.
