Edema, as one of common clinical diseases, could be treated by taking medicines and adopting external therapies with traditional Chinese medicines (TCM). In recent years, there have been many clinical and basic studies concerning external therapies with TCM on edema Data showed that the external therapies are mostly composed of such purgating drugs as Rhei Radix et Rhizoma, Natrii Sulfas and Pharbitidis Semen, heat-clearing drug such as Phellodendri Chinensis Cortex and resuscitation-inducing drug such as Borneolum Syntheticum. The study showed that ingredients of external therapies did not pass through hilum and hepatic system, and thus avoided the first pass effect of livers. They enabled effective components of drugs to be rapidly absorbed through pores and skins, strengthened the effect against edema, shortened the treatment course, decreased side effects, and were convenient and inexpensive. External therapies with TCM could play unique advantages in inhibiting edema in the future clinical studies.

Journal of Peking University(Health Sciences) 2004;0(01):-
Objective: To study the periapical microleakage of the root canals filled with four kinds of sealers using two obturation techniques. Methods: Sixty-four extracted first maxillary premolars were randomly divided into four groups. All the root canals were prepared with Protaper rotary instruments and filled with two obturation techniques: warm vertical condensation and cold lateral condensation. Four kinds of sealers included: Cortisomol, nano-zinc oxide, Apexit and calcium hydroxide which were indivi-dually used for four groups. After the teeth were dyed for 7days with Indian ink, dyeing lines were measured with digital camera under steromicroscope to reflect the microleakage. Results: In cold lateral condensation groups, dyeing lines of calcium hydroxide group had an average length of (1.75?0.22) mm, which was significantly longer than that of Cortisomol group (1.40?0.15 mm) and nano-zinc oxide group [(1.56?0.25) mm, P0.05], which were significantly shorter than that of cold lateral condensation groups (P

Henoch-Sch?nlein purpura(HSP)is an IgA-associated leukocytoclastic small-vessel vasculitis, commonly occurred in children.Recent studies have shown that its pathogenesis is closely related to the disturbance of humoral immune response mediated by B cells.CD4 + T cells have the function of help B cells. Each subgroup of CD4 + T cells has unique functions of promoting or regulating immune inflammatory response. There are abnormal changes in the proportion of CD4 + T cells subsets in HSP patients, including the imbalance of Th1/Th2, increasing numbers of Th17 and Tfh cells, together with decreasing Treg cell numbers. The changes are closely related to the occurrence, development and the clinical phenotype of HSP.It is suggested that the detection of CD4 + T cells plays critical roles in guiding the evaluation of HSP, and is expected to provide a new idea for the clinical diagnosis and individualized treatment of HSP.

ObjectiveTo observe the effect of early rehabilitation on poststroke anxiety and depression.Methods137 stroke patients with hemiplegia were divided into the rehabilitation group (70 cases) and control group (67 cases). All patients in both two groups were given routine clinical treatment, but the patients in the rehabilitation group were given regular early rehabilitation. All patients were evaluated with Bathel Index (BI), Fugl-Meyer Motor Scale (FMMS), Hamilton Depression Scale (HAMD) and Hamilton Anxiety Scale (HAMA) before and 3 months after treatment.ResultsAfter 3 months treatment, the scores of HAMD, HAMA, BI and FMMS of patients in the rehabilitation group increased significantly compared with those before treatment ( P<0.05~0.01), and those in the control group ( P<0.05). The scores of BI and FMMS of patients in the control group after treatment also increased significantly compared with those before treatment ( P<0.05). The incidences of depression and anxiety of the rehabilitation group were 22.86% and 5.71%, those of the control group were 40.30% and 16.42%, there was a significant difference between two groups( P<0.05).ConclusionThe early rehabilitation can obviously decrease anxiety and depression of stroke patients with hemiplegia.

Objective To explore the role of microRNA-206 (miR-206) in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) in infantile bronchiolitis caused by respiratory syncytial virus (RSV).Methods Thirty-five cases of infantile bronchiolitis and 25 cases of healthy controls were enrolled into the current study.PBMCs were isolated from the peripheral blood of both healthy subjects and those with infantile bronchiolitis in the acute and the convalescent stages.Total RNAs were extracted from PBMCs which were stimulated by phorbol-12-myristate-13-acetate (PMA) and Ionomycin, and then the RNA was transcribed reversely into cDNA.The expressions of miR-206 and Kruppel-like transcription factor 4 (KLF4) were detected by real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) method.Plasma interleukin-17 (IL-17) was determined by enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA).Results There was a significant difference in miR-206 levels of children with RSV bronchiolitis in the acute stage(0.055 ±0.018) and the convalescent stage(0.187 ±0.069) as well as the healthy controls(0.204 ± 0.075).Through pairwise comparison, the miR-206 levels in the children in the acute stage were significantly lower than those in the convalescent stage and healthy control group (P < 0.01), but no statistical significance was found between the convalescent stage group and healthy control group(P > 0.05).The levels of KLF4 mRNA of children in the acute stage, convalescent stage as well as the healthy subjects were 0.588 ± 0.161,0.086±0.024,0.075 ±0.019, respectively, which was significantly difference (P < 0.01).The levels of IL-17 were (58.26 ±25.88) ng/L, (9.87 ± 3.01) ng/L, (7.65 ± 2.16) ng/L, respectively (P < 0.01).Compared to the convalescent and the normal control group, both the KLF4 mRNA and IL-17 levels were markedly higher in the acute stage (P < 0.01), but there were no significant differences between children with RSV bronchiolitis in convalescent stage and in the healthy controls (P > 0.05).Furthermore, the result of this study showed a negative correlation between the expression of miR-206 and KLF4(r =-0.624 ,P <0.01)and IL-17 (r =-0.609 ,P <0.01) in children in the acute stage and a positive correlation between KLF4 mRNA and IL-17 in children in the acute stage (r =0.662, P < 0.01).Conclusion The levels of miR-206 may play a role in the onset of RSV associated post-bronchiolitis (PB) and the low expression of miR-206 in children infected with RSV may increase the susceptibility to PB.
