Objective To investigate the mechanism of insulin resistance (IR) with coronary heart disease (CHD) by the relationship study between IR and the risk factors of CHD as well as the severity of coronary lesions. Methods One hundred and twenty three patients with at least one vessel ≥50% luminal narrowing were analyzed from our consecutive angiographic data base, excluding patients concomitant with hepatic, renal, pancreatic diseases, thyroid disorders and diabetes mellitus (DM) with insulin therapy. Oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT), blood lipid, plasma insulin were performed in all patients. Insulin resistance was assessed by homeostasis model assessment (HOMA) to investigate the relationship study between insulin resistance and the risk factors of CHD,severity of coronary lesions as well as the clustering of risk factors (hypertension, overweight, impaired glucose tolerance/DM, high serum triglycerides, low high density lipoprotein cholesterol). Results The level of IR was correlated with the levels of body mass index (BMI), fasting glucose, postprandial glucose, fasting insulin, postprandial insulin, hypertension, serum triglycerides, and high density lipoprotein cholesterol. Meanwhile the level of IR was associated with clustering of risk factors and the extent and the severity of coronary lesions. Conclusion Insulin resistance may be the basis for disease. In the primary and secondary prevention of CHD, we should not only treat syndromes but also reduce the level of IR.

Objective To investigate the expression of CKLF?2 mRNA in rats′ myocardium at different development phase. Methods Total RNA was extracted from fetal rat hearts at day12 and day 18 after coitus, and from new-born rat hearts right after birth, day 3, day 7 and day 21 after birth, as well as from adult rat hearts. The expression of CKLF?2 mRNA was tested by competitive polymerase chain reaction (CPCR). Results Compared with the postnatal myocardium, the expression of CKLF?2 mRNA obtained its peak level in the 12-day-post coitus, which then decreased gradually to a relatively low level until birth. It increased slightly at birth and subsided to the lowest level in adulthood. Conclusion CKLF?2 probably takes part in the procession of the myocardial proliferation and the development of rat′s heart.

OBJECTIVEThis study aims to test the accuracy and precision of iWitness photogrammetry for measuring the facial tissues of mannequin head.
METHODSUnder ideal circumstances, the 3D landmark coordinates were repeatedly obtained from a mannequin head using iWitness photogrammetric system with different parameters, to examine the precision of this system. The differences between the 3D data and their true distance values of mannequin head were computed.
RESULTSOperator error of 3D system in non-zoom and zoom status were 0.20 mm and 0.09 mm, and the difference was significant (P 0.05). Image captured error of 3D system was 0.283 mm, and there was no significant difference compared with the same group of images (P>0.05). Error of 3D systen with recalibration was 0.251 mm, and the difference was not statistically significant compared with image captured error (P>0.05). Good congruence was observed between means derived from the 3D photos and direct anthropometry, with difference ranging from -0.4 mm to +0.4 mm.
CONCLUSIONThis study provides further evidence of the high reliability of iWitness photogrammetry for several craniofacial measurements, including landmarks and inter-landmark distances. The evaluated system can be recommended for the evaluation and documentation of the facial surface.
