To analyze and summarize the clinicopathological features of renal inflammatory lesions which were easily misdiagnosed as renal tumors. Methods The cases from March 2006 to August 2015 in the Department of Pathology at Xijing Hospital were analyzed, retrospectively.Due to the diagnosis made by clinicians that these were renal (including renal pelvic) tumors, all cases had undergone radical nephrectomy or tumor enucleation.Among them, several inflammatory lesions were confirmed, and were combined with the patients' clinicopathological data and literature review to investigate the diagnosis and differential diagnosis. Results Of the 1 195 cases, only 6 cases (less than 1%) were renal inflammatory lesions, named as xanthogranulomatous pyelonephritis (2 cases),renal malakoplakia (1 case),renal tuberculosis (1 case),IgG4-related tubulointerstitial nephritis (1 case),and renal Wegener's granulomatosis (1 case). These diseases occurred in two males and four females (aged 14 to 55 years). All patients underwent radical nephrectomy due to the detected unilateral solitary renal mass in the imaging examination. Conclusion Renal inflammatory lesions are very rare, which show masses that are easily misdiagnosed as neoplastic lesions. Some of them have similar histological features. As the differences of treatment,a sufficient understanding of the clinicopathological features of these diseases is important to make a correct diagnosis.

Objective Matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization-time of might-mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF-MS) was utilized to analyze the protein fingerprint in brain-gut interaction of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) model rats' colon, so as to find the clues for IBS. Methods Fourteen healthy male adult Wistar rats were selected and divided into a control and a chronic and acute stress ( CAS) group. Colon motility, visceral sensation and behavior changes of rats were detected to evaluate the model. MALDI-TOF-MS was used to observe the overall view of protein in colon so as to study whether there are abnormalities of protein levels in IBS. Results As compared with those in the control group, the number of fecal pellets [ (6. 00 ± 1. 69 ) pellets/1 h vs ( 1. 14 ± 0. 69 ) pellets/1 h, P < 0. 01 ] and frequency of abdominal contraction induced by colorectal distention (CRD) increased, while the amount of weight gain [ (298. 88 ± 18.61)gvs (348. 00±12. 44)g, P<0.01] and consumption of sucrose solutions [ (13. 63 ± 1. 69) ml/1 h vs (19.00±3.06) ml/1 h, P<0.05] decreased in the CAS group (P <0. 05). As far as protein/peptide quality different peak was concerned, CAS rats had 12 different peaks compared with the control rats. The different proteins could be divided into 4 types, which were related to iron secretion, protein synthesis, G protein system and immunity. The protein levels of the model group were higher than those in the control group (P < 0. 05). Conclusions The CAS rats integrate the major characteristics of IBS such as altered colon motility, higher visceral hypersensitivity and psychiatric disorder and can mimic the brain-gut interaction of IBS partly. The detection of differential proteins provides reference for the pathogenesis and treatment of IBS.

One marine actinomycete strain FIM02-523 was isolated from marine soil in the East China Sea in Fujian Province. The fermentation broth of strain FIM02-523 exhibited potent antitumor activities. Strain FIM02-523 grew well on most media tested, the colonies were orange to dark brown but lacked aerial hy-phae, no diffusible pigments were observed. Phylogenetic, chemotaxonomic, morphological analyses, physiological and biochemical characteristics demonstrated that strain FIM02-523 belong to the genus Mi-cromonospora, may be a strain of the type species Micromonospora chalcea.

Journal of Shanghai Jiaotong University(Medical Science) 2009;29(6):693-697
Objective To investigate the expression of homeobox gene MSX-2 during cranial suture fusion of SD rats and discuss its significance. Methods SD rats aged 1, 2, 5, 8, 12, 15, 18, 22, 30 and 45 days were selected, and immunohistochemistry and Real-time PCR were employed to localize and quantify the expression of MSX-2 in different regions of cranial sutures. Results MSX-2 expressed in calvarial suture tissues including the extreme ends of the osteogenic fronts and the underlying dura mater. The expression of MSX-2 was low in posterior frontal suture (PF) and sagittal suture (SAG) from postnatal day 1 to day 8 before the initiation of suture fusion, while it was higher in PF than in SAG from postnatal day 12 to day 22 after the initiation of PF suture fusion. The expression of MSX-2 significantly declined in PF and was moderately higher than that in SAG from postnatal day 30 to day 45 after the initiation of suture fusion. Conclusion There is different expression of MSX-2 in PF and SAG during different suture fusion periods, which suggests the expression of MSX-2 may participate in the regulation of cranial bone development and the fusion of cranial sutures.

Chinese Journal of Experimental Ophthalmology 2012;30(7):638-640
Background Bulbar conjunctiva tissue appears to be thinning, elasticity declined, tension reduced and fascia atrophied in conjunctivochalasis.Histopathological examination of conjunctivochalasis shows decrease of elastic fibers and melt of collagen fibers. But there are fewer studies on the ultrastructure of conjunctiva of conjunctivochalasis up to now. Objective This study was to investigate the ultrastructure change of conjunctiva tissue in conjunctivochalasis. Methods Five loose conjunctiva samples of conjunctivochalasis and 5 normal conjunctival tissue samples were collected and ultra-microstructure changes of these samples were observed under the transmission electron microscope. Results The number of fibroblasts in conjunctivochalasis lamina was progressively decreased. The shape of fibroblasts was long and fusiform.Somatic synapse was slim.Nucleus-cytoplasm ratio was increased.Disorder, scattered and broken of the collagen fibril were seen, and some areas were dissolved or lacunae.Normal conjunctival fibroblasts were oval or polygonal, with wieners and long somatic synapse, and intercellular matrix was full of collagen fibril and dense arranged fibers.Fibroblasts in fascia of eonjunctivochalasis were linear, and collagen fibril was seriously defected.Fascia fibroblasts of normal bulbar conjunctiva were spindleshaped and bigger than conjunctivochalasis fibroblasts. There were full of collagen fibrils in intercellular matrix. Conclusions The collagen fibril is decreased and fibroblast cells are degenerated in lamina and fascia of conjunctivochalasis.
