Journal of Experimental Hematology 2004;12(6):849-851
To observe of alloantibodies of patients with autoimmune hemolytic anemia (AIHA), the alloantibodies masked by autoiantibody were detected by using chloroquine elution test, and the specificity of autoantibody was identified by ether elution test. The results showed that 19 cases out of 38 patients with AIHA were positive detected by indirect antiglobulin test and in 7 cases of them alloantibodies in sera cases were found (1 case of anti-D, 4 cases of anti-E and 2 cases of anti-CE), in 5 cases of them alloantibody were detected carried blood group specificity (3 cases of anti-E, anti-C and anti-c 1 case respectively). In conclusion, detections of alloantibodies by chloroquine elution test and ether elution test were very important for transfusion safety in therapy of patients with AIHA.

OBJECTIVETo study the content variation of furmarid acid and isofraxidin in Sarcandra glabra from 21 different provenances and provide the basis for resource utilization and quality optimization of S. glabra.
METHODHPLC method was developed to determine the contents of furmarid acid and isofraxidin in 330 samples of S. glabra which were collected respectively from 21 different provenances.
RESULTThere were significant differences in the contents of isofraxidin and furmarid acid in S. glabra from different provenances. The contents of isofraxidin and furmarid acid dropped off from low altitude to high altitude, which were also close with longitude and latitude. The content of isofraxidin in S. glabra at central area of natural distribution was the highest. The different parts of the plant had different results, the influence on the contents of the acitive components in stem were more obvious than the leaf.
CONCLUSIONThis simple, accurate and reproducible method could be use to determine the contents of furmarid acid and isofraxidin in S. glabra. The results represented the status of medicines quality and difference of Chinese S. glabra. These agreed with the traditional views that the medicines quality of Sarcandra glabra in Jiangxi, Fujian, Zhejiang was better. These provenances were considered as important areas of medicines breeding and bases building on S. glabra in future.

Objective To investigate the effect of chlorhexidine gluconate in prevention of surgical site infection ( SSI ) . Methods Randomized controlled clinical trial method was used in the study. Comparison was made in the rates of SSI between the experiment group using 2% chlorhexidine gluconate and the control group. Results The rate of SSI in experiment group was significantly lower than that in control group (0.83% vs.5.83%, χ2 =3.23,P =0.035).Differences of hospital stay, total cost, infection in other sites and mortality rate of SSI were not statistically significant between the two groups ( P>0 .05 ) . Conclusion Preoperative head disinfection by chlorhexidine gluconate has remarkable effect in prevention of cerebral surgical site infection.

OBJECTIVETo explore the techniques of stereotactic combined amygdalohippocampotomy for management of medial temporal lobe epilepsy (MTLE).
METHODSThe Leksell stereotactic frame was used for all cases, and which almost paralleled the long axis of hippocampus. Stereotactic amygdalohippocampotomy was performed in 23 patients with unilateral medial temporal lobe seizures by using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) localization for target planning, depth electrode for the electroencephalogram (EEG) monitoring and radiofrequency techniques for lesion production. All procedures were completed under local anesthesia.
RESULTSPre-lesion spikes or polyspike-waves complex were recorded by a depth electrode in the amygdala and hippocampus region in all patients, and the epileptiform discharges disappeared after the amygdalohippocampotomy. The MRI appearance of the lesion areas after 1 - 2 weeks surgical operation showed that mutiple areas of coagulation necrosis corresponding to the lesion sites were surrounded by zones of edema. Twenty-three patients were followed-up to 8 - 32 months with seizure free 43.48% (10/23), and the general efficiency (seizure reduction >or= 50%) was 91.30% (21/23 cases).
CONCLUSIONSStereotactic combined lesions of unilateral amygdala and hippocampus for minimally invasive treatment of MTLE is safe and effective, and it is worth to spread in clinical application.

OBJECTIVETo observe the influence of 1.8 GHz microwave (MW) specific absorption rate (SAR, 3 W/kg) on human lymphocytes DNA damage induced by 4 chemical mutagens [mitomycin C (MMC), bleomycin (BLM), methyl methanesulfonate (MMS), and 4-nitroquinoline 1-oxide (4NQO)].
METHODSComet assay in vitro was used to detect human lymphocyte DNA damage induced by 1.8 GHz MW, 4 chemical mutagens, and MW plus 4 chemicals 0 h and 21 h respectively after exposure. The time exposed to MW or mutagens was 2 h or 3 h respectively. The results were showed by tail length (TL) and tail moment (TM).
RESULTSThe difference of DNA damage between MW group and control group was not statistically significant (P > 0.05). DNA damages in MW plus MMC groups and MW plus 4NQO groups were significantly greater than those in the corresponding concentrations of MMC groups and 4NQO groups (P < 0.01 or P < 0.05). However, MW did not enhance DNA damage induced by MMS and BLM (P > 0.05).
CONCLUSIONExposure to 1.8 GHz (SAR, 3 W/kg) microwave may not induce human lymphocyte DNA damage, but could enhance DNA damage induced by MMC and 4NQO.

OBJECTIVETo evaluate the effects of Yi-Shen-Huo-Xue Fang on expression of GMP-140 and cleaning out the oxygenic free radicle on rabbits blood stasis model.
METHODThirty rabbits were divided randomly into five groups as the normal group, model group, large dose of "Yi-Shen-Huo-Xue Fang" group, small dose of "Yi-Shen-Huo-Xue Fang" group and "Xue-Shuan-Xin-Mai-Ning" group. After being treated respectively, granule membrane protein 140(GMP-140), erythrocyte sueroxide dismutase (E-SOD), erythrocyte lipid peroxide(E-LPO), plasma lipid peroxide(P-LPO) were checked up.
RESULTThe GMP-140, E-SOD, E-LPO, P-LPO in normal control were compared with those in model groups, With the difference(P < 0.01), model control group was compared with large dose group and small dose group (P < 0.01), with "Xue-Shuan-Xin-Mai-Ning" group(P < 0.05), large dose group was compared with "Xue-Shuan-Xin-Mai-Ning" group(P < 0.05), and large dose group were compared with small dose group (P > 0.05).
CONCLUSIONThe model was made successfully. Large dose group, small dose group and "xue-shuan-xin-mai-ning" group can inhibit expression of GMP-140, enhence SOD activity and decrease LPO content on blood stasis rabbit model. Large dose group and small dose group have stronger effect than "xue-shuan-xin-mai-ning" group.
