4.Thinking about vertigo effectiveness evaluation methods in clinical research of Chinese medicine.
Chinese Journal of Integrated Traditional and Western Medicine 2014;34(10):1256-1259
Vertigo is a kind of patients' subjective feelings. The severity of vertigo is closely related to many factors. But we are short of a well accepted quantitative evaluation method capable of accurately and comprehensively evaluating vertigo in clinics. Reducing the onset of vertigo, enhancing the re- covery of equilibrium function, and improving the quality of life of vertigo patients should be taken as the focus of evaluating therapeutic effects. As for establishing a Chinese medical effectiveness evaluation system for vertigo, we believe we should distinguish different "diseases". We could roughly identify it as systemic vertigo and non-systemic vertigo. For systemic vertigo, the efficacy of vertigo could be comprehensively evaluated by UCLA vertigo questionnaire or dizziness handicap inventory combined with equilibrium function testing indices. But for non-systemic vertigo, the efficacy of vertigo could be comprehensively evaluated by taking UCLA vertigo questionnaire or dizziness handicap inventory as main efficacy indices. Secondly, we should analyze different reasons for vertigo, choose symptoms and signs in line with vertigo features as well as with Chinese medical theories, and formulate corresponding syndrome effectiveness standards according to different diseases. We should not simply take syndrome diagnosis standards as efficacy evaluation standards.

China Biotechnology 2006;0(11):-
Plant insect-resistantgenetic engineering hasopened a new way to prevent and cure against the insect pest incrop and wood productions. With the progresses instudies, many insect-resistantgeneswere cloned and characterized. The classification of most insect-resistantgenes from plant, the functionalmechanism and the applications of theplantinsect-resistantgenes, the problems and prospectsforusing the plant insect-resistant genes in genetic engineering was described.

Objective To study the induction of IL-6 on expression and activity of tissue factor (TF)in peripheral blood monocytes(PBMCs).Methods rhIL-6 100 ng/L and rhIL-6 100 ng/L+ rhIL-6 MoAb 10?g/L were used respectively to stimulate the PBMCs for 24 h,PBMCs without any stimulation as control group,to study the changes of antigen content,mRNA expression and the ac- tivity of the TF.Results The antigen content,mRNA expression and activity of TF were increased significantly in 100 ng/L rhIL-6 group as compared with rhIL-6 100 ng/L+rhIL-6 MoAb 10?g/L and control groups(P<0.01).Conclusions rhIL-6 can induce the increase of antigen expression, activity and mRNA expression in PBMCs,and these effects can be suppressed successfully by rhIL-6 MoAb. This study demonstrated that there was potential relations between cytokines and thrombogenesis, which may play an important role the pathogenesis of chronic rejection.

Objective To investigate the effect of Xiongshang RecipeⅠ(XPI)on serum inflammatory cytokines of tumor necrosis factor (TNF)and interleukin-8(IL-8)in acute pulmonary contusion patients. Methods Thirty acute pulmonary contusion patients were equally randomized into the control group (receiving routine western medical treatment)and the treatment group (received routine western medical treatment and oral use of XPI).The treatment lasted 2 weeks.Thirty healthy physical examinees served as the contemporaneous normal controls.Secondary pulmonary contusion, recovery time and the serum levels of TNF and IL-8 were observed after pulmonary contusion. Results Serum levels of TNF and IL-8 in the treatment group after treatment were decreased(P

Objective To investigate the stiffness of lumbar spine after the injury caused by percutaneous diskectomy and evaluate the efficiency of percutaneous lumbar diskectomy by biomechanical study. Methods Four fresh lumbar specimens were used to analyse load-displacement curves in the intact lumbar spine and vertical disc-injured lumbar spine. The concepts of average flexibility coefficient (f) and standardized average flexibility coefficient (fs) were also introduced. Results The load-displacement curves showed a good stabilization effect of the intact lumbar spine and disc-injured lumbar spine in flexion, extention, right and left bending. The decrease of anti-rotation also can be detected (P
9.Corticosteroid-induced severe glaucoma and posterior subcapsular cataract: a case report
International Eye Science 2009;9(9):1652-1654
Corticosteroid-induced glaucoma (CIG) is a form of open angle glaucoma associated with both topical and systemic administration of corticosteroids. Here we described the clinical findings in a patient with severe glaucoma and posterior subcapsular cataract (PSC) after topical administration of corticosteroid eye drops. We concluded corticosteroid eye drop was an effective medicine for inflammation of the eyes; however, prolonged use could cause severe vision loss as a result of intractable corticosteroid-induced glaucoma and cataract.

The relationship between vascular endothelial growth factor-C (VEGF-C)/vascular endothelial growth factor receptor 3 (VEGFR-3) expression and clinicopathologic features of the patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) was investigated. The expression of VEGF-C and VEGFR-3 was assessed in 65 patients with NSCLC by immunohistochemistry. The significance of VEGF-C and VEGFR-3 expression was analyzed statistically. The results showed that VEGF-C and VEGFR-3 were highly expressed in cytoplasm and membrane in lung cancer tissues with the positive rate being 55.4 % and 52.3 % respectively, while there was no expression in the normal lung tissues. The expression of VEGF-C was significantly increased in adenocacinoma as compared to other types of NSCLC (P<0.05). The VEGFR-3 expression was closely related with lymph node metastasis (P<0.01) and TNM stage (P<0.05). There was a positive correlation between the VEGF-C and VEGFR-3 expression in NSCLC patients (r=0.658, P<0.01). It is suggested that VEGFR-3 plays an important role in the lymphatic metastasis of NSCLC. The interaction between VEGF-C and VEGFR-3 may be deeply involved in the mechanism of lung cancer metastasis.
