With the wide use of Radix Polygoni Multiflori and it's preparations in the field of medicine, cosmetology, food and healthcare, the adverse reactions generated subsequently have also received considerable attention gradually. In this article, the main effective components of Radix Polygoni Multiflori and their pharmacological effects, toxicity and the possible mechanism, adverse reactions in clinical applications are reviewed.

The effects of betulinic acid (BA), a pentacyclic lupane-type triterpene, on the cell viability, cell cycle and apoptosis in human leukemia K562 cells were investigated. The effects of BA on the growth of K562 cells were studied by MTT assay. Apoptosis was assayed through Annexin V/propidium iodide (PI) double-labeled cytometry. The effects of BA on the cell cycle of K562 cells were studied by a PI method. The expression of Bax and capase-3 was detected by using Western blot. The results showed that BA was cytotoxic to K562 cells with an IC(50) of 21.26 mug/mL at 24 h. After treating K562 cells with 10 mug/mL BA for 72 h, the number of cells was reduced by 58%. BA induced apoptosis of K562 cells in a time- and dose-dependent manner. The proportion of cells in G(0)/G(1) and G(2)/M phases was decreased and that in S phase was increased after K562 cells were treated with BA for 24 h. BA treatment also increased the expression of the pro-apoptotic proteins Bax and caspase-3. It suggested that BA could inhibit the proliferation of K562 cells through the induction of cell cycle arrest and apoptosis. The antitumor effects of BA were related with up-regulation of the expression of Bax and caspase-3 proteins. BA may qualify for the development of new therapies for leukemia.

Objective:To evaluate the character of cardiac valvular calcification in uremia patients and its effect on cardiac structure and function.Methods:Thirty five cases with mitral and aortic valve calcification were selected from 326 uremia patients.Control group consisted of 33 uremia patients without valvular calcification.Their age,LVEDD,LAD,AOD,LVWT,LVEF and blood pressure matched with calcification group.The observing indexs included distribution of calcification,degree of regurgitation,LVEDD,LAD,AOD,LVWT and LVEF.The observing duration was one year.Results:The results showed that characters of valvular calcification with uremia were similar to elder valvular calcification.The degree of regurgitation was more greater in calcification group than in control group after one year.The LAD was greater in calcification group after one year.Conclusion:Cardiac valvular calcification of uremia may cause the increase of regurgitation and enlarge LAD. Objective To preliminarily test the value of gastroesophageal reflux disease questionnaire (GERD-Q) in auxiliary diagnosis of gastroesophageal reflux disease(GERD) in infants and young children.Methods From January 2011 to February 2014,148 infants and 87 young children with suspected GERD symptoms were enrolled in the outpatient and inpatient departments of Wuhan Women and Children's Medical Care Center.The diagnosis of GERD were made through 24 h esophageal pH monitoring and upper gastrointestinal hysterosalpingography.Those with any examinations being positive were brought into GERD group,and the others into the control group.All cases had been surveyed with GERD-Q.Using SPSS17.0 statistical software,the ratio was compared with chi-square test,and the difference of the scores between groups with t test.Results In infants (1 to 11 months),the individual symptom scores (ISS) of the 6 symptoms in the GERD group (n =111) were all higher than those in the control group (37 cases) (P ＜ 0.05),and the composite and symptom scores (CSS) [(131.43 ± 66.56) scores] in the GERD group was higher than that [(33.70 ± 40.03) scores] in the control group (t =8.42,P ＜ 0.05).In young children (1 to 3 years old),the ISS in the GERD group(55 cases) were all higher than those in the control group(32 cases),and the CSS[(98.58 ± 66.75) scores] in the GERD group was also higher than that [(28.50 ± 35.95) scores] in the control group(t =5.49,P ＜ 0.05).Conclusions There is a good correlation for age-specific GERD-Q to distinguish GERD symptoms in infants and young children,which is suitable for the assessment of GERD.

Objective To analyze the mutation characteristics of GBA gene in one patient with Gaucher disease and platelet transfusion refractoriness.Methods A female patient with anemia and thrombocytopenia showed platelet transfusion refractoriness,and then the proband and her family were performed bone marrow smear,β-glucocerebrosidase activity in leukocytes (dried blood spot assay),Bultrasonography and gene sequencing examination and pedigree investigation.Results Pedigree investigation showed that the heterozygous mutation of GBA gene existed in the father,mother,son,daughter and sister of the proband.Bone marrow cytomorphologic examination showed that Gaucher cells accounted for 6.0％ in the female patient.The β-glucocerebrosidase activity in leukocytes was 3.78 nmol/(h · mg Pro).B-ultrasonography showed slightly splenomegaly.Gene sequencing found that the homozygous mutation of GBA gene,c.484A ＞ G,existed in the female patient.Conclusion The patients with Gaucher disease may appear platelet transfusion refractoriness due to hypersplenism.The mutation of GBA gene is the main pathogenic factor of the family with Gaucher disease.

OBJECTIVETo study the clinical efficacy of Chinese herbal retention enema combined with intrauterine douching for patients with endometritis diagnosed by hysteroscopy. They failed in in vitro fertilization (IVF)/intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI)-embryo transfer (ET) treatment.

METHODS131 patients received hysteroscopy after they failed in routine IVF/ICSI-ET treatment. Of them, 66 patients diagnosed as endometritis were enrolled as the test group and 65 patients without endometritis were enrolled as the control group. Chinese herbal retention enema combined with intrauterine douching was performed on patients in the test group before the next IVF/ICSI, while direct IVF/ICSI was performed on those in the control group. The embryo implantation rate and the clinical pregnancy rate were compared between the two groups.

RESULTSThe clinical pregnancy rate and the embryo implantation rate were 48.5% and 24.2% respectively, while they were 29.2% and 14.9% respectively in the control group, showing significant difference (P < 0.05).

CONCLUSIONChinese herbal retention enema combined with intrauterine douching could improve the embryo implantation rate and the clinical pregnancy in patients with endometritis.

BACKGROUND:The brain mechanism of semantic processing is one of the focus problems in cognitive neuroscience.With the research technologies plentiful and diversified, the brain mechanism of semantic processing is gradually distinct.However, at present, the related researches on Chinese semantic processing are not enough. The brain mechanism of semantic processing by Chinese language obstacle should be studied more deeply.OBJECTIVE: To further identify the neuropsychological significance of clinical diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation by concluding the study fruits on the brain mechanism of semantic processing by native Chinese speaker with dysphonia and analyze the relationship between the related brain mechanism and the local brain system of semantic processes as well as brain anatomical parts.RETRIEVE STRATEGY: The retrieve staffs are the research personnel for this paper. The range of retrieve time focuses since 1984. A computer-based online search was conducted in CNKI for literatures related to basic neuropsychology and its clinical application published between January 1994 and May 2006, in Elsevier for articles between January 1984 and May 2006, in Academic Source Premier and MEDLINE of EBSCOhost for studies between January 1984 and May 2006 with the key words of "semantic processing", and the language was limited to English. Meanwhile, relevant data were searched manually. The number of total retrieved articles was 264, among which 43 enrolled studies were in accordance with the inclusion criteria and excluded articles involving semantic processing or encephalic region but without their relationship. The unpublished articles were only used for references LITERATURE EVALUATION: The literatures are selected from related works, collected analyses, reports from single case or research. Evaluated persons are related research staffs.DATA SYNTHESIS: Processing of Chinese semantic relied primarily on the left superior temporal region, middle temporal gyrus, the inferior gyrus of frontal regions as well as the left middle frontal gyrus, which make up a frontal-temporal network for semantic processing. Lexical-semantic processing is strongly correlated with activation in the posterior portion of left superior temporal region and the middle temporal gyrus, which appear to be responsible for storage and automatic of semantic processing. The anterior temporal region is related to integrate different semantic knowledge. More strategic processes and those that require specific memory resources may be represented in the inferior frontal cortex. In addition, the left middle frontal gyrus is special to Chinese semantic process, and some scholars infer the reason is the unique style of Chinese characters.CONCLUSION: At present, there are many methods to study neuropsychology, brain tissues and its functions, with which a great deal of neuropsychological disorder and mechanism of pathological changes in clinic can be studied and comprehended more distinctly, and all these are greatly helpful to the treatment and rehabilitation.

Objective To study the effect and methods of orbital septum fat redistribution or autogenous orbital septum granular fat transplantation methods on upper eyelid depression.Methods Blepharoplasty incision was used to cut open musculus orbicularis oculi and septum orbitale horizontally,exposuring orbital fat,the conjunction was relieved between orbit fat envelope and septum orbitale,displaced orbital fat was extended and replaced to the depression region of upper eyelid,and the wound was routinely sutured.For orbital septum fat volume depletion,appropriate amount of granular fat was injected into depression region and put fat backward upto supraorbital margin.Then,resetting orbital septum and closing incision were conducted with suture technique of blepharoplasty.Results Of 48 cases (96 eyes),32 cases was followed-up for 6 to 42 months with mean of 11 months.All cases got ideal outcomes,with smooth and symmetry lid folds,depression of upper eyelid were fixed and no complication occurred.Conclusions Orbital septum fat redistribution or autogenous orbital septum granular fat transplantation can anatomically reduce the fat distribution of upper eyelid.This method is easy and effective to improve the appearance of eyelid.
