OBJECTIVETo evaluate the biomechanical properties of tibial plateau depressed fracture fixed with a net-fixation of Kirschner wires.
METHODSTwenty homemade fracture models were fixed with eight 1.5 mm Kirschner wires in a net-fixation; 20 homemade fracture models were fixed with two 3.5 mm cortical screws. Plane-compressed and dot-compressed test were made on each 10 models of the two groups. The maximal force of anti-ompress and stiffness were measured and evaluated.
RESULTSIn plane-compressed test,mean maximal force of anti-compress and stiffness for screw fixation was (1,925.31 +/- 444.26) N and (2.28 +/- 0.53) N/mm2, respectively, for net-fixation was (1,609.62 +/- 277.72) N and (1.90 +/- 0.33) N/mm2, respectively. There was no statistical difference between the two fixation methods (P > 0.05). In dot-compressed test,mean maximal force of anti-compress and stiffness for screw fixation was (411.13 +/- 233.88) N and (2.66 +/- 1.52) N/mm2,respectively,for net-fixation was (1,105.58 +/- 290.66) N and (7.18 +/- 1.89) N/mm2,respectively,the net-fixation was better than that of the screw fixation (P< 0.01).
CONCLUSIONTreatment of tibial plateau depressed fracture with a net-fixation of Kirschner wires is a biological fixation and is a reliably method.

Objective To evaluate engraftment status of patients after allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation(Allo-HSCT) and prompt relapse of disease based on DNA polymorphism analysis technique. Methods Sixty-six cases were detected by DNA polymorphism analysis technique and 25 cases were monitored and analyzed dynamically during this period. Results After Allo-HSCT,48 patients obtained type of donors, but 13 patients did not; 5 patients showed mixed chimerism. Two cases of type of donors converted into mixed chimerism and 4 cases of mixed chimerism converted into type of donors after some time. The others' engraftment status did not change. Conclusion DNA polymorphism analysis technique can detect engraftment status of patients exactly, rapidly, which provides effective evidences of constitution for more clinical therapy projects.

Objective To study the therapeutic effects of human umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells (hUCMSCs) on acute liver failure ( ALF) induced by D-galactosamine (D-gal) and lipopolysaccharide (LPS) in rats. Methods The ALF model was obtained through intraperitoneal injection of D-gal(300 mg/kg)and LPS (20μg/kg)in Wister rats. The hUCMSCs were transplanted after intoxication. All rats were divided into four groups, and each group received either hUCMSCs or 0.9% NaCl solution through intraperitoneal or tail-intravenous injection. To evaluate the liver function of each group, the levels of alanine aminotransferase (ALT), total bilirubin (TBil) and serum albumin (Alb) were measured on the day of hUCMSCs transplantation and the following 1, 2, 3, 5 and 7 days. All rats were then sacrificed to examine the liver histology at day 7. Analyses were done by using Fisher's exact test, unpaired t test and Mann-Whitney U test. Results There were no significant differences of survival rates among four groups (Fisher's exact test, both P = 1. 00). The levels of ALT, TBil and Alb in group receiving hUCMSCs intraperitoneally were (804. 9 ± 88. 0) U/L,(17. 4±2. 7) μmol/L and (20. 9±0. 8) g/L, respectively after 2 days of injection, whereas in the corresponding control group, those were (1294. 3± 171. 4) U/L, (32. 3±5. 5) μmol/L and (16. 1±0. 9) g/L, respectively, which indicated that hUCMSCs transplantation significantly improved the liver function (t = 2. 640, P =0.020;t=2.529, P = 0. 025;t= - 3. 833, P = 0. 002). Both of hUCMSCs-transplanted groups showed no significant differences. Liver histological data showed that transplantation of hUSMSCs through either intraperitoneal or tail-intravenous injection alleviated liver damage (U=4. 500, P = 0. 005;U=4. 500, P = 0. 008) and the mitotic index also increased in hUCMSCs-transplanted groups (U=4. 000, P = 0. 005; U=5. 500, P = 0. 013). Conclusions The levels of ALT, TBil and Alb can rapidly normalize in ALF rats after injected with hUCMSCs either intraperitoneally or tail-intravenously. hUCMSCs application raises the mitotic index, enhances hepatocellular regeneration and improves histological status.

OBJECTIVETo compare the effect of reinforcing Shen method (RSM) and activating blood method (ABM) in treating osteoarthritis (OA) at the molecular level.
METHODSThe physical and chemical characteristics of components from respective recipes of RSM and ABM, and network features of component-target interaction network were analyzed by computer simulation methods including chemical space, molecular docking, and biological network, etc.
RESULTSThe chemical components of RSM and ABM were scarcely scattered with larger overlapping. Among established networks, the distribution of network features was partially similar in RSM and ABM. The average target number correlated with each component was 1.86 in RSM and 2.11 in ABM respectively. Each average target number was respectively correlated with 4.46 compounds and 3.93 compounds, reflecting multi-component and multi-target actions.
CONCLUSIONComputer simulation could intuitively trace out similarities and differences of two different methods and their interaction with targets, which revealed that the compatibility of RSM and ABM could have broader protein targets and potential synergism at the molecular level.

Objective To assess the quality of reporting randomized controlled trials published in Chinese journal of radiology from 2000 to 2005.Methods A manual search was performed and 22 checklists of CONSORT statements and other self-established criteria were applied. Results Six volumes and 72 issues were investigated. There were total trials of 236 in 2186 literatures, and finally 3 randomized controlled trials(RCTs)(1.27%)were identified. In the 3 RCTs,there were 3 trials with methods of randomization,1 with endpoints measurement,1 with multi-centre,but without the prior calculation of sample size, blind methods, statistically probability, participant flow, compliance and negative results. Conclusion The quality of reporting randomized controlled trials of interventional radiology has been improved, but it did not meet fully the CONSORT statement.

Objective To evaluate the effect of operation on aged women with breast cancer. Methods The clinical data of the 166 patients recruited from 1989 to 2004 were retrospectively analyzed. Results One hundred and sixty six patients were all treated by operation. The modified radical mastectomy was performed in 98 cases(59.0%), radical masteetomy in 21 cases(12.7%), mastectomy in 29 cases (17.5%), palliative operation in 18 cases (10.8%). After operation, one hundred and twenty six patients received chemotherapy, twelve radiotherapy and 73 endocrine therapy. The rates of postoperative complications were 10.8%, no patients died during operation. The overall postoperative 3-and 5-year survival rates were 82.2% and 65.2% respectively. Conclusions The effect of surgical treatment and its combination with other adjunct therapies is satisfactory for aged women with breast cancer. Different types of operations should be performed for different patients. Ageing is not a contraindication of the operation. Surgery should be combined with medical therapy to reduce the concomitant diseases and postoperative complications.
