Butyric acid can be used to produce cellulose butyrate fiber and ester derivatives,and to be applied in foodstuffs and perfume industries.Recent researches have found that butyric acid is a preferred carbon source for colonic epithelial cells,and can inhibit histone deacetylase,showing great anticancer potentials.With more and more functions of butyric acid being found and applied in bio-related fields,and with consumer's growing preference to bioproducts,biotechnological production of butyric acid will receive more competence than petroleum-based chemical synthesis.Low product concentration and poor selectivity are presently the main restricting factors.Workers have made considerable progress on more cheep carbon sources,optimization of fermentation process,simplifying downstream processing,and genetic engineering of producing strains.Any achievement on these aspects in the future can contribute to put fermentation of butyric acid into industry.

Objective To explore the role of p38MAPK and TGF?2 in the development of diabetic retinopathy.Methods Fifteen Hamsters were induced into diabetic models by intraperitoneal injection of Streptozotocin(40 mg/kg once a day) for 3 d and 13 Hamsters were successfully established,whose blood glucose was over 13.5 mmol/L.Ten Hamsters as controls were intraperitoneally injected of physical saline of the same volume.At 16th week after induction,the total RNA of retina from all sacrificed Hamsters was collected.The mRNA expressions of p38MAPK,TGF?2 in retina were detected by semi-quantitative RT-PCR and their protein levels by Western blotting.Results The mRNA expressions of p38MAPK,TGF?2 in retina were of high tendency and their protein levels increased.Conclusion p38MAPK signal pathway may involve in the pathogenesis of diabetic retinopathy.

Background and purpose:Ara-C is one of the most effective and common agents in the treatment of acute nonlyphocytic leukemia. Telomerase is a unique complex of ribonucleoprotein. It plays an important role in the pathogenesis and development of cancer. In this study, we investigate the changes of mRNA expression of telomerase subunits in HL-60 cells induced by Ara-c and try to come up with a theory that could help to assess the efficacy of Ara-C. Methods:The combinations of various Ara-C concentration and the incubation time were used to treat HL-60. The ratios of apoptotic cell to necrosis cell were determined by flow cytometry and the expressions of telomerase subunits mRNA were evaluated by RT-PCR.Results:① There was no influence on transcription of telomerase subunits gene after HL-60 cells was cultured with 0~0.2ug/ml Ara-C for 12 hours;② 2ug/ml and 10ug/ml of Ara-C could down regulate the expression of hTERT from 0.80+0.07 to 0.50+0.04 and 0.39+0.03, not hTR and hTP1;③ with longer incubation with 10ug/ml of Ara-C, the percentage of apoptosis could be increased. The maximal induction of apoptosis (18.16+4.25%) could be reached at 12hrs treatment of Ara-C, then gradually decreased later on. The rate of necrosis increased with time, the maximal percentage(57.94+12.03%) of necrosis was observed at 48hrs of incubation time with drug. The mRNA level of hTERT gene also decreased along with the cultured time , the lowest value (0.18+0.03) has been documented at 48hrs time point, but not hTR、TP1.Conclusions:① Ara-C could down-regulate the expression of hTERT mRNA in a dose-and time-dependent manner, but not hTR、hTP1;② There might be no relationship between the percentage of apoptosis induced by Ara-C apoptosis and the expression of telomerase hTERT gene mRNA, but a close relationship between necrosis and the expression of hTERT mRNA has been found.

Objective To investigate the early-pathologic changes in children′s antrum infected with different types of Hp and study the Hp isolate′s pathogenic.Methods The serum types of CagA and VacA from Hp were determined by Westen-Blot in 70 patients with Hp positive and 36 patients with Hp negative.The standard of gastritis pathologic classification was accordance with that of international made in Sydney. The pathogenic of Hp affecting was evaluated by the degree of inflammation, severity of active gastritis,lymph follicles and atrophy.Results The detection rate of type Ⅰwith high virulence in Hp isolates was 68.1%,mid-type isolates was 27.7% and type Ⅱ with low virulence isolates was 4.2%.To observe the pathologic distinction in 49 patients with type Ⅰisolate,20 patients with mid-type isolate and 3 patients with type Ⅱ isolate,the type Ⅰ and mid-type isolates had significant difference in inflammation and their activity in either antrum or duodenal ampulla.Three patients with type Ⅱ isolate have not active gastritis.Type Ⅰand mid-type isolates had significant difference in lymph follicles,and the lymph follicles caused by type Ⅰwere significant higher than those caused by mid-type.But there were no significant differences in intestinal metaplasia and atrophy.Conclusions TypeⅠisolate with high virulence is the main detection isolate of children infected by Hp in our district.There is inflammation occurrence in antrum specimens in childhood who infected with Hp.

ObjectiveTo explore clinical features of cerebral palsy of premature infants and attempt to deduce the etiology and time of brain damages.MethodsMaterials included perinatal risk factors, neurodevelopmental evaluation, types of cerebral palsy and CT or MRI findings of 281 cerebral palsied children embryo age less than 37 weeks were analyzed retrospectively.ResultsAmong 281 cases, 47.07% of them were premature infants and most of them (64.67%) suffered from multiple high risk factors especially during perinatal and post neonatal periods. The main causes were perinatal asphyxia, icterus, and twin pregnancy. Spastic diplegia was more common in this group (70.81%), followed by athetosis and mixed of spastic and athetosis. The characteristic of neuroimaging findings was periventricular leukomalacia (PVL).ConclusionFor cerebral palsy of premature children, pematurity is an important cause of cerebral palsy and brain damages are often occurred during perinatal and post neonatal periods, main type is spastic diplegia, and main pathological change is PVL.

Objective Diabetic mice models were established.Hearts were separated from the body,reperfused after ischemia,and disposed of with the extraneous calcitonin gene-ralated peptide (CGRP),to prove if the CGRP had protective effect on the early-staged diabetic mice with cardiac ischemia.Method ICR mice were injected with Streptozocins intraperitoneally to establish diabetic model.The model mice and the normal mice were randomly divided into 4 groups:two diabetic groups,two control groups.Hearts of the experimental mice were taken out from the chest cavity alive,and hanged on the Langendorff steadily for 30min.Western blot and radioimmunoassay techniques were used to test expression of Vanilloid receptor(VR1) and CGRP in myocardic tissue;Madlab system was used to test the cardiac function,which including left ventricular end-diastolic pressure (LVEDP),left ventricular developed pressure (LVDP),heart rate (HR),and coronary artery flow (CF),in the process of ischemic reperfusion,And ELISA assay kit was used to measure the concentration of the lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) in perfusion fluid collected from the heart.Result Expressions of VR1 and CGRP in diabetic hearts were significantly lower than those in normal ones 2 weeks later(P＜0.01).By comparing with normal hearts,diabetic hearts had higher LVEDP and CF (P＜0.05),and lower LVDP and HR(P＜0.05).However,release of LDH were lower than normal ones (P＜0.05).Predisposition of normal and diabetic hearts with CGRP can improve the cardiac function after ischemie injury.And the beneficial effect was more profound in early-staged diabetic hearts than in normal ones.Conclusion The diabetes disease(DM) can impair the expression of CGRP in myocardiac tissue.The extraneous CGRP may exert more potent protective effect on cardiac function in the early-staged diabetic heart.

Aim & methods The antagonism of L-dicentrine to contraction of isolated porcine coronary artery strips induced by 5-HT KCl and Ca2+ was observed with U-135 electrophsiological recorder.Results The contractions induced by 5-HT KCl and Ca2+ after high K+ depolarization in the strips of porcine coronary artery were markediy inhibited by L-dicentrine.L-dicentrine significantly depressed maximal response and caused rightward displacement of the dose -response curve. Showing a non-competitive antagonism. In Ca2+ free solution,L-dicentrine inhibited 5-HT-induced contraction of porcine coronary artery,which is dependent on Ca2+ relesed from intracellular store. After Ca2+ concentration in bath solution was restored,L-dicentrine did not influence the contraction of porcine coronary artery depending on extracellular Ca2+.Conclusion L-D have significant relaxation on porcine coronary artery ,which possibly has 5-HT receptor and histamine receptor.

BackgroundIdiopathic epiretinal membranes(ERMs) is a common eye disease condition that leads to progressive decline of visual acuity. Studying the risk factors relating to this disease will shed light on its pathogenesis and allow opthalmologists to screen the affected individuals among the high-risk population and prepare for prevention and management strategies. ObjectiveThis survey was to investigate the risk factors of idiopathic ERMs in the population undergoing routine health check-ups. MethodsThe clinical data of idiopathic ERMs was obtained from the population of routine health check-ups in Peking Union Medical College Hospital from November 2009 to October 2010. The examination outcomes were compared between the individuals with and without idiopathic ERMs. The demographic and clinical factors associated with idiopathic ERMs were analyzed and assessed using univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses. Result A total of 27 400 people were included in the survey and idiopathic ERMs were diagnosed in 76 cases. No obvious eye complaint was obtained from the idiopathic ERMs. The number of people affected with idiopathic ERMs was 12 ( 12/11 659 ) in the below 40 years group, 21 (21/4595) in the 51-60 years group and 32 (32/2544) in the over 60 years group. Hypertension, diabetes, diedyslipidemia, renal function insufficiency ,and cataract were found in 42％ ,5％ ,66％ ,6％ and 8％ of the patients, respectively. The univariate logistic regression analyses revealed that significant correlations were found between age,hypertension,hyperlipidemia and history of cataract( P＜0. 01 ). Multivariate regression models showed that the risk of idiopathic ERMs increased in age of 51-60( OR=2. 5,95％ CI:1. 2-5.4,P=0.02) and over 60 years( OR =7.3,95％ CI:3.4-15.6 ,P＜0.01 ) and patients suffering from hyperlipidemia ( OR--2. 1,95％ CI:1. 3-3.5, P＜0. 01 ). ConclusionsOver the age of 50 years and hyperlipidemia are primary risk factors of idiopathic ERM.

Background The pathological foundation of diabetic retinopathy is the breakdown of the bloodretina barrier induced by multifactors.Objective This study was to investigate the retinal morphologic change and the levels of serum vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF),endothelin(ET)and nitric oxide(NO)in diabetic rats.Methods Forty healthy female SD rats were randomly divided into experimental group and control group and 20 rats for each group.Acute diabetes models were established by the intraperitoneal injection of 60 mg/kg streptozotocin in experimental group and the equal volume of buffer solution was injected at the same way in the control group.The serum VEGF level,ET level and NO concentration of diabetic and control rats were detected using ELISA double antibody sandwich method,125I radioimmune method and nitrate reduction method respectively at 2,4,6 and 8 weeks after injection.The eyeballs of rats were enucleated at the eighth week for retinal pathologic examination.This experiment followed the Measures for the administration of experimental animals of Shanghai City.Results The retinal structure was normal throughout the experimental duration in the control group.However,retinal edema and cellular disorganization appeared at 4 months and retinal blooding could be seen with the extending of diabetes course.The levels of serum VEGF and ET in each experimental group were significantly higher than those in control groups(P＜0.05).The levels of serum NO elevated in 2-month experimental group compared with same-phase control group(Z =-2.193,P＜0.05),and those in 6-and 8-month experimental groups were significantly lower than in corresponding control groups(Z =-2.449,Z =-2.236,P＜0.05).With the progression of the disease,the levels of VEGF and ET increased gradually,but the levels of NO decreased gradually,showing statistically significant differences(P＜0.05).The level of serum VEGF showed a positive correlation with serum ET level and a negative correlation with the serum NO concentration(r=-0.814,r=-0.803,P＜0.01)in the experimental group.A negative leaner relation was also found between serum ET level and serum NO concentration(r=0.821,P＜0.01).Conclusions The serum VEGF,ET and NO levels are closely associated with the degree of retinal lesion in early diabetic models.These results suggest that serum VEGF,ET and NO levels may be the important indexes predicting the course of retinal disease in diabetic rats.
