The corneal transparency is one of the important basic conditions for realizing normal physiological functions of visual organs. Also corneal endothelial cells are important conditions for maintaining normal corneal transparency. Therefore, only to ensure the morphology and physiological integrity of the corneal endothelial, can have normal vision. However, intraocular surgeries inevitably cause damage to corneal endothelial cells. This paper will review the effects of glaucoma surgery on corneal endothelial cells.

OBJECTIVETo detect the expression of PSF1 (partner of Sld five 1) in colon cancer specimens, and to explore the effect of RNA interference targeting PSF1 on the proliferation of colon cancer cells and its mechanism.
METHODSExpression level of PSF1 protein in colon cancer specimens was detected by Western blot in 40 patients with colon cancer from May 2004 to December 2006. The short hairpin RNA (shRNA) plasmid targeting PSF1 was transfected into LOVO, HT-29 and HCT116 cells with liposome, then the expression level of PSF1 protein was measured by Western blot, the effect of PSF1 shRNA plasmid transfection on cell proliferation by MTT assay, anchorage-independent growth by soft agar colomy-formation assay, and PSF2, PSF3 and SLD5 mRNA expression by quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction.
RESULTSThe relative expression level of PSF1 protein in colon cancer tissues was 0.485±0.113, which was significantly higher than that in adjacent normal mucosa tissues (0.056±0.014, P<0.01). Western blot showed that the expression level of PSF1 protein was significantly decreased in colon cancer cells transfected with PSF1 shRNA plasmid. After PSF1 shRNA plasmid transfection, cell proliferation was significantly suppressed, the soft agar colony-forming rates of LOVO, HT-29 and HCT116 cells were significantly lower than those in control groups (P<0.05), meanwhile the expression levels of PSF2, PSF3 and SLD5 mRNA were significantly decreased (P<0.05).
CONCLUSIONSPSF1 is significantly up-regulated in colon cancer tissues compared with adjacent normal mucosa tissues. ShRNA plasmid targeting PSF1 can inhibit the expression of PSF1 gene, suppress the proliferation of colon cancer cells, suggesting that it may be a new therapeutic target for colon cancer.

Chinese Journal of Surgery 2008;46(5):362-365
OBJECTIVETo investigate the prevalence and possible influencing factors of depressive disorder in surgical inpatients.
METHODSTwo hundred and sixty-six surgical inpatients meeting the inclusion criteria were first screened with the self rating depression scale (SDS), and then the subjects screened positive and 20% of those screened negative were evaluated with Structured Clinical Interview for DSM-IV Axis I Disorders (SCID) as a gold standard for diagnosis of depressive disorder. Possible influencing factors were also analyzed by experienced psychiatrists.
RESULTSThe standard score of SDS in the surgical inpatients were significantly higher than those in the Chinese norm, and the incidence of depressive disorder in the surgical inpatients was 37.2%. Unvaried analysis showed that depressive disorder were associated with gender, education, economic condition, variety of diseases, hospitalization duration, and treatment methods. Logistic regression analysis revealed that gender, economic condition, treatment methods and previous history were the main influencing factors.
CONCLUSIONSThe incidence of depressive disorder in the surgical inpatients is high, and it is mainly influenced by gender, economic condition, treatment methods and previous history.

Background and purpose: Postoperative chemotherapy targets the metastatic cancer in the remaining lymph nodes, but the heterogeneity in multidrug resistance (MDR) of metastatic cancer cells is a main factor affecting chemotherapeutic efficacy. Recent studies only examined the primary lesion of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma(ESCC). There is no report about heterogeneity between the primary tumor and metastases lymph node. The purpose of this study was to explore the heterogenous expression and clinical signiifcance of multidrug resistance (MDR) associated proteins in primary tumors and metastatic lymph nodes in patients with thoracic ESCC. Methods:The expressions of lung cancer associated resistance protein (LRP), P-glycoprotein (P-gp), topoisomeraseⅡ(TOPO-Ⅱ), thymidylate synthase (TS), glutathione S-transferase-π (GST-π) were examined by immunohistochemistry in primary lesions and corresponding metastatic lymph nodes in 54 patients with thoracic ESCC. The differences between expression of primary lesions and matched metastatic lymph nodes were compared and analyzed in relationship with tissue differentiation degree. Results: The discordant rates of the expression and drug resistance between primary lesions and corresponding metastatic lymph nodes in LRP, P-gp, TS, TOPO-Ⅱ and GST-π were 63.0% and 26.9%, 42.6%and 22.2%, 48.1%and 25.9%, 50.0%and 29.6%, 18.5%and 1.9%respectively. The expression of LRP showed signiifcant difference between the primary tumors and lymph nodes (P=0.026). No signiifcant differences were found for the other four proteins, and GST-πwas expressed in all patients in both the primary tumors and lymph nodes. Protein expression was not associated with degree of differentiation. Conclusion:There is evident of heterogenous expression of MDR associated proteins in metastatic lymph nodes compared to the primary tumors of ESCC. The examination of expression levels of MDR associated proteins in metastatic lymph nodes is helpful to select the postoperative rational chemotherapy plan.

International Eye Science 2016;16(11):2103-2106
AIM:To study the visual acuity and refractive status of students pupils and middle school students in Shenzhen, and to provide a scientific basis for the prevention and control of myopia.
METHODS:A cluster sampling method was used to select five primary school students(6 737) and three junior middle school students(1 925) from Shenzhen. The visual acuity, anterior segment, fundus, eye position, and refractive status were measured. Information on associated factors for poor vision were also obtained using a questionaire. The risk factors of poor vision and the rate of myopia between grade or gender were analysed by Chi-square test.
RESULTS:The rate of poor vision was 67. 0%. Female, family history of high myopia, long time of continuous look near, short time of outdoor activities were the main risk factors. The rate of emmetropia, hyperopia, astigmatism and myopia were 15. 1%, 11. 3%, 11. 0% and 62. 6% respectively. Emmetropia, hyperopia and astigmatism incidenece rate decreased with age growing, but myopia incidence rate was increased. There were significant differences between adjacent two grades in myopia(χ2=7. 338-45. 018, P<0. 05 ) except the primary grade six and the junior grade one. There were significant differences between boys ( 61. 0%) and girls ( 65. 5%) in myopia(χ2=17. 180, P<0. 05).
CONCLUSION:The rate of poor vison is pretty high in students of Shenzhen aged between 5 to 16 years old, and myopia is the main reason. The development rate of myopia is increased with age. Early management of myopia may play an important role in controlling poor vision in students.

The Journal of the Korean Orthopaedic Association 1997;32(5):1117-1123
Multidirectional shoulder instability is often difficult to diagnose and treat and can be cause of significant disability. Nonoperative rehabilitations and life tyle modifications are the primary treatments. Hiwever, the inferior capsular shift procedure, performed either from an anterior or posterior approach, as described by Neer and Foster, is recommended for symptomatic multidirectional instability that is unresponsive to nonoperative therapy. Twenty-seven shoulders in twenty-seven patients with inferior and multidirectional instability were managed with Neer s inferior capsular shift, through anterior or posterior approach depending on the direction in which the shoulder is most unstable. All of the patients were followed up for an average of 3 years (range one to seven years). The postoperative range of motion of the shoulders was well maintained except 1 patient. Three patients had recurrence of symptomatic and disabling multidirectional instability, but twenty-four (89%) of the shoulders continued to function well with no instability, no pain, no recurrence and no remarkable limitation of motion.
