Over 26 kinds of tablets and capsules, such as Tetracycline, Quinidine and Potassium preparations were reported to cause esopbageal ulcerations, eharacterized in various size, shape and number, ind sually in mid-esophagus, Recently authors experienced 10 cases of drug-induced esophageal ulcerations due to antibiotics and antiinflammatory agents such as Tetracycline, Aspirin, etc. Four cases were men and six were women. Four cases were in third dades, three in fourth cleeades, two in fifth decades and one in sixth decades. Presenting symptoras were odynophagia(4/10), dysphagia(3/10), substernal pain(7/10) and epigastric pain(3/10). Endoscopic examination of the esophgus showed single or multiple, small and shallow ulcers on the mid-esophgeal mucosa at the level of 30cm from the ineisor in eight cases, one Iarge and deep ulcer at the level of 40cm from incisor in one patient and one amall, shallow and one large, deep ulcers at the same time. in one patient The shape of alcers were various from a round to a large horseshoe shaped one. The clinical course was mild without complications. It was suggested that drug-induced esophsgeal ulcers with antibiotics and antiinflammatory agents could be found frequently and they had benign and mild clinicalc ourse,

To evaluate the antihypertensive effects of serotonin antagonist, ketanserin, a daily dosage of 10~40mg (18.9+/-6.8 mean+/-SE) was administered to 22 patients with essential hypertension and aged 55??1 years (64+/-7.7 mean+/-SE) for 12 weeks. After 12 weeks of ketanserin treatment mean blood pressure decreased from 177.9+/-11.9 to 15.7+/-15.3mmHg in systole and from 104.2+/-7.4 to 88.4+/-7.9mmHg in diastole (P<0.001). There was no significant change in heart rates with ketanserin treatment. The antihypertensive treatment with ketanserin was effective in 18 patients(81.8%) and ineffective in 4 patients (18.2%). Adverse reactions such as drowsiness (8.7%), edama (4.3%) and weakness (4.3%) were noted, but all were mild and transient. This results suggest that ketanserin is an effective and safe antihypersive agent in the treatment of essential hyperension.

Journal of the Korean Knee Society 2000;12(2):226-229
Gout is a metabolic disorder manifested by hyperuricemia due to genetic or acquired diseases. The pathognomic lesion is the tophus which fine crystals of monosodium urate are deposited in articular carti- lage, synovia, tendon sheaths and other periarticular structures, epiphyseal bone, subcutaneous layers of the skin, and interstitial areas of the kidney. Frequent sites of tophaceous deposit are the external ear and subcutaneous deposits in the finger tips, palms and soles. Tophaceous gout involving the space of bipartite patella is very unusual and has not been reported before in Korea. So, we report a case of 38 year old male patient who presented with tophaceous gout involving the space of bipartite patella with review of literatures.

PURPOSE: We attempted to examine the correlation between metabolic syndrome and lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) in the aspect of gender-specific medicine. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of 922 patients participating in a health examination completed the International Prostate Symptom Score (IPSS) questionnaire and the Overactive Bladder Questionnaire Short Form (OABq-SF) symptom bother scale from March 2008 to July 2009. Metabolic syndrome was defined by using the National Cholesterol Education Program Adult Treatment Panel III criteria announced in 2001. We analyzed differences in lower urinary tract symptoms according to the presence of metabolic syndrome and the component elements of metabolic syndrome. RESULTS: The subjects were 538 males and 384 females with a mean age of 48.8+/-6.8 years. Among all patients, the number of patients with metabolic syndrome was 143 (15.5%); there were 110 males (20.4%) and 33 females (8.6%), showing a significant difference. There were no differences in scores on the IPSS or OABq-SF with respect to the presence or absence of metabolic syndrome in males. In females, however, there were significant differences in the IPSS and OABq-SF depending on the presence or absence of metabolic syndrome. In males and females, the IPSS total score was significantly correlated with age. Also, high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol in males and triglyceride in females was significantly correlated with the IPSS total score. CONCLUSIONS: There are sex differences in the morbidity rate of metabolic syndrome and its effect on lower urinary tract symptoms. Therefore, it is necessary to consider gender-specific medicine in the diagnosis and treatment of LUTS.

Korean Circulation Journal 1982;12(1):179-187
Primary tumors of the heart are uncommon lesions that can mimic almost any type of cardiac disease. Over 90 per cent of myxoma which are the most common cardiac tumor occur in the atria, with 3 to 4 times as many occuring on the left as on the right. The development of nonivasive echocardiographic technique has made it possible to screen large numbers of patients with atrial myxoma with ease and safe. A 28 year old housewife was admitted because of dyspnea for 5 months. Clinical diagnosis of right atrial myxoma was made by echocardiography and right atrial angiocardiogram. Surgical resection was performed successfully. We presented a case of right atrial myxoma with a review of literatures.

Surgical revascularization is very effective for the relief of chest pain, improvement of exercise tolerance and ventricular performance in certain ischemic heart diseases. Bypass graft angiography and native coronary angiography after coronary artery bypass graft(CABG) were required for the evaluation of graft patency, progression of the native coronary artery disease and to predict the prognosis of the patients after CABG. The cases included in this study involved 15 patients who underwent selective bypass graft angiography among 102 CABG cases. Thirty eight sites were bypassed by saphenous vein and two sites by internal mammary artery. The results were as follows: 1) The overall patency rate of the saphenous vein bypass graft was 76.3% and the two sites of the internal mammary artery bypass graft were both patent. 2) The patency rate of direct anastomosis was 86.2% and of sequential anastomosis, 44.4%. 3) In eight patients who underwent native coronary angiography, five patients showed progression of grafted coronary artery disease. Among them, two patients had accompanying progression of coronary artery disease in non-grafted vessels. 4) Follow up treadmill test performed in six patients showed improvement of exercise tolerance in all patients. 5) There was some increase in the ejection fraction of the left ventricle after CABG in six patients who received follow up left ventriculography.

Korean Journal of Urology 2010;51(6):431-433
Prostate cancer commonly manifests with bony metastases. Visceral metastasis can also occur in the lungs and liver. However, stomach metastasis related to prostate cancer is rare. Here, we report a case of prostate cancer metastatic to the stomach. A 66-year-old male was diagnosed with prostate adenocarcinoma. He was noted as having abdominal discomfort, nausea, and vomiting 18 months after the diagnosis. A histopathologic examination and an esophagogastroduodenoscopic gastric biopsy revealed stomach-metastatic adenocarcinoma. He was also noted as having cerebellar metastatic lesions, which were identified by using a brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan. The patient died of cardiovascular complications 5 months after the diagnosis of stomach metastasis.

Mycobiology 2002;30(2):61-64
A Monokaryotic strain G8M without clamp connections was isolated from germinated basidiospore that was obtained from cultivated fruit body. Strain G8M was used as a tester isolate for 'dikaryon-monokaryon mating' (di-mon mating) with the strains of Ganoderma lucidum, G6 and G35 (Korean wild strains), G3 (Taiwan), G4 (Canada), G15 (America), G. oregonense G24, G. resinaceum G28, G. oerstedii G23, and G. subamboinense G29. Isolate G8M was compatible to Korean strains G6 and G35, but was incompatible to foreign strains G3, G4, or G15. Compatible reactions between strains were readily observed macroscopically. Clear barrage lines formed between incompatible strains. These clear lines were not apparent in compatible di-mon matings. The Korean strains were morphologically distinct; they did not form any chlamydospores, and stopped growth at 35degrees C. The strains of G. lucidum from Korea may be considered as different species from Taiwan, Canadian and American cultures.

Korean Journal of Urology 1989;30(1):122-124
Because of its usually abnormal mesorchial attachments the undescended testis is more prone to undergo torsion than normally-sited organ, but the incidence of this complication appears to have lessened in recent years. We present two cases with torsion of the unilateral cryptorchid testis and a review of the literature. Two cryptorchids complained of the painful mass on the inguinal area. Exploration revealed testicular torsion and orchiectomy was done.
