Objective To study the effect of modified sensorimotor training (SMT) method on standing ba- lance of the stroke patients during their recovery stage. Methods Sixty stroke patients at recovery stage were ran- domly divided into an intervention group and a control group. The intervention group was trained by modified SMT method which combined Thera-band with partial body weight support (PBWS) system, while the control group was trained only with their standing balance in the parallel bars based on the neurodevelopment therapy (NDT) method. Both groups were given the same medications as well as physical therapy, acupuncture and OT. The patients in the two groups practiced standing balance in front of a mirror daily, 40 minutes every day and 6 days every week for 4 weeks. The balance abilities of patients were evaluated by Berg balance scale (BBS) , and their lower extremity func- tions were assessed by simplification Fugl-Meyer assessment (FMA). Results After training, both groups showed significant improvement in BBS and FMA ( P

Objective: To explore the regulative role of extracellular regulated protein kinase-5 (ERK5)/Bcl-2 interacting mediator of cell death (Bim) pathway in hypothermal stimulation induced neonatal rat’s cardiomyocytes (CMs) damage and apoptosis.
Methods: CMs were cultured for hypothermal stimulation and the speciifc siRNA was used to down-regulate the ERK5 or Bim in CMs. The cell apoptosis was detected by lfow cytometry, protein expression was examined by Western blot analysis, the intracellular Ca2+, reactive oxygen species (ROS) and mitochondrial membrane potential (ΔΨm) were evaluated by lfuorescent labeling and lfow cytometry.
Results: In hypothermal stimulated CMs, ERK5 siRNA could promote Bim protein expression, but Bim siRNA could not inlfuence ERK5, while attenuated p-ERK5 expression. ERK5 siRNA induced higher apoptosis rate, while Bim siRNA could decrease such effect. ERK5 siRNA increased the intracellular Ca2+overloading, ROS activation andΔΨm damage, while Bim siRNA played the role to against those effects in hypothermal stimulated CMs.
Conclusion: Our study revealed that ERK5/Bim pathway played the important regulative roll in hypothermal stimulation induced neonatal rat’s CMs damage and apoptosis.

Objective To investigate effects of xeroderma pigmentosum B(XPB) gene on IL-6 induced proliferation and apoptosis in human vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMC).Methods Recombinant plasmid pcDNA3.1-XPB and vacant vector plasmid pcDNA3.1 were transfected stably into VSMC by liposome, and these cells were incubated with IL-6 at a 100 U/ml for 48 hours. The experiments were divided into six groups:blank control group; pcDNA3.1 group; pcDNA3.1-XPB group;IL-6 group; IL-6 + pcDNA3.1 group; IL-6 + pcDNA3.1-XPB group. The expression levels of XPB,Bcl-2,Bax and wild type p53 (wt-p53) were detected through reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and Western blotting. The cell survival, cell cycle and apoptosis were examined with 3-(4,5-Dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) and flow cytometry, respectively. Results The transfection of pcDNA3.1-XPB increased the expression of XPB,Bax and wt-p53 (P<0.05 or P<0.01),decreased the expression of Bcl-2 (P<0.05 or P<0.01),and reduced the IL-6 induced effects on decreasing the expression of Bax and wt-p53 and increasing the expression of Bcl-2(P<0.05 or P<0.01).The over expression of XPB inhibited the cell growth(q=2.95,P< 0.05),and reduced the positive effects of IL-6 on VSMC growth ( 102.6 +6.2) % vs.(124.5 + 7.9) %,q=3.49,P<0.05.The over expression of XPB increased the apoptosis rate of VSMC(P<0.01 ) and the cell amounts of G0/G1 phase (q=2.99,P< 0.05),decreased the cell amounts of S phase(q=3.05,P<0.05),and reduced the IL-6 induced effects on decreasing the apoptosis rate of VSMC(5.9±2.1)% vs.(0.3±0.1)%,q=7.53,P<0.01; the cell amounts of G0/G1 phase(70.9±6.7) % vs.(54.8±2.9) %,q=6.91,P<0.01 ;and on increasing the cell amounts of Sphase(20.2+3.6)% vs.(36.4+7.2)%,q=8.54,P<0.01.Conclusions XPB gene could inhibit VSMC proliferation, promote VSMC apoptosis, and reduce the effects that IL-6 promotes VSMC proliferation and inhibits VSMC apoptosis. Therefore,XPB gene is likely to be potential molecular target for treatment of atherosclerosis.

The hexane extract from marine actinomycetes 124092 showed potent inhibition on B16 cell line by MTT assay. The hexane extract was fractionationed on silica gel column by vacuum liquid chromatography to afford 6 fractions(Fr1~Fr6), and Fr6 showed cytotoxic activity. To determine the bioacitve components of hexane extract, Fr6 was analyzed by GC/MS. The main components were identified as palmitic acid (11.76%), oleic acid (12.16%), linoleic acid (14.77%), and lactobacillic acid (61.31%). It have been reported that palmitic acid, oleic acid, and linoleic acid possess cytotoxic activity on rat ascites tumor cells and linoleic acid have suppressive effect on human lung adenocarcinoma cells.

China Biotechnology 2006;0(05):-
A mutant strain RZ13 with high lipase productivity was obtained through treating the Rhizopus sp. RXF12 by UV and microwave, and its activity was 2.62-fold of the original one. The high lipase productivity of the mutant strain could be inherited after repetitious subcultures. The optimal culture conditions of the RZ13 for producing lipase were studied. The lipase with highest activity (67.32U/ml) was obtained on the conditions of 25℃,pH 8.0,5 %(v/v) single spore suspension (1?107spore/ml) and 120 r/min for 84h,and stable under 40℃ and pH 8.5. In addition, the lipase was immobilized by adsorption onto Mg-Al hydrotalcite at 25℃ for 4 h by screening carriers and optimizing the immobilization. The results showed that the optimal reaction temperature and pH were 35~55℃ and 7.5~9.0,respectively,much wider than the free lipase.

Abstract?AIM: To evaluate the visual acuity, visual function, q uality of lfi e, and cost/effectiveness of cataract surgery in patients with low soc ioeconomics tatus ( LSES ) who received government subsidies for free cataract surgery.?METHODS: Retrospectively, 334 eyes of 334 patient s were reviewed. Visual function and quality of l ife questionnaires we re available in 83 patie nts. The cost/effectiveness of cataract surgery was analyzed in 225 patients with LSES and 12 0 patients who rec eived standard cataract surgery. Mutl iple linear regression anal ysis and logistic regression analysis were used to assess the factors affecting the postoperative visual acuity.?RESULTS: At 1wk postoperatively, uncorrected visual acuity ( UCVA ) was improved significantly compared to these preoperait vely (P<0.50 ), 235 eyes (70.4%) had UCVA of 20/40 or better, and 16 eyes (4.8%) had UC VA wor se than 20/400. Multiple linear regresis on ana lysis revealed that other ocular diseases and cataract classification wer e factors contributing to po stop erative UC VA. Logistic regression analysis showed that low preoperative visual ac uti y and other ocular diseases were risk factors of postopera tive low vision, and the odds ratio (95%confidence int erval) values were 6.5 (2.8-14.8) and 1.3 (1.0-1.6), respe ctively.Visual fun ction and quality of life were significantly improved after the surgery. Th e cost/effetc iveness of c ataract su rgery in patients with LSES was lower than that in standard cataract patients.?CONCLUSION: Visual acuity and visual function were significantly better after the surgery in catara ct patients wti h LSES, and the operation cost was low.Quality of life in these patients was significantly improved.
