Korean Circulation Journal 1987;17(2):265-271
To evaluate the cardiac functions we examed the M-mode echocardiography with measurements of blood pressure, heart rate and body surface area in 55 normal Korean adults(male 30 persons, female 25 persons) of mean age, 41.7+/-12.3 years. (1) Interventricular septal thickness is 9.5+/-1.7mm and left ventricular posterior wall thickness are 8.6+/-1.5mm at end-diatole, 14.0+/-2.1mm at end-systole. (2) Diastolic and systolic left ventricular internal dimensions are 49.1+/-4.8mm and 31.3+/-5.0mm, respectively. (3) Left ventricular mass by Penn Convention method is 174.4+/-52.1g and left ventricular mass index is 103.2+/-28.8g/m2. (4) Relative wall thickness is 0.35+/-0.06. (5) Left ventricular volumes by Teichholz's method are 114.9+/-27.6ml at diastole and 40.2+/-17.2ml at systole. Therefore, stroke volume is 74.7+/-16.9ml and stroke volume index is 44.5+/-10.7 ml/m2. (6) Cardiac output is 4944+/-1058 ml/min and cardiac index is 2951+/-666 ml/min/m2. (7) Total peripheral resistance is 1454+/-356 dynes-sec-cm(-5) and total peripheral resistance index is 2472+/-623 dynes-sec-cm(-5).m2. (8) Fractional shortening is 36.5+/-6.0% and pressure-volume ratio is 3.27+/-1.19 mmHg/ml. (9) End-systolic wall stress is 61.3+/-19.7x10(3) dynes=cm2. (10) Atrial emptying index is 0.66+/-0.18.

Korean Journal of Dermatology 1982;20(4):563-567
Nevus lipomatosus cutaneus superficialis is a very rare skin disease which appears at birth or within the firat two decades of life. This uncommon condition is due to collections of ectopic fat cells within the upper and mid-dermis. There are two clinical forms. The first form is a lesion of zonal distribution, present from birth or childhood, usually on the buttocks or the lower back. The second form, a dome or sessile, papule, begins in adult life and is less restricted in distribution, and occurs also on the limbs Coalescence of soft, yellowish papules tends to form cerebriform plaques. The authors experienced two cases of typical nevus lipomatosus cutaneus superficialis. The first case was a 23-year male who had asymptomatic, soft, skin colored, and pea sized confluent nodules on the right lower back area since at birth. The second case was a 35-year female who had asymptomatic, multiple, soft, skin colored from rice to walnut sized confluent nodules on the coccygeal area which developed at the age of 27. Diagnosis was confirmed by clinical and histopathological findings.

Korean Journal of Dermatology 1982;20(4):557-561
Epidermolytic hyperkeratosis is a rare disease which is extremely variable in its severity. In some patients it may be so severe and generalized during the neonatal period as to be lifethreatening, in others, it is relatively inconspicuous. A bullous eruption is the characteristic finding of the epidermolytic hyperkeratosis The bullous episodes soon become less frequent and more localized and may eventually cesse, but continue into adult life after the age of 20 years in at least 20% of cases. A case of epidermolytic hyperkeratosis is represented. The patient was a 25-year-old male who had ichthyosiform erythroderma and the frequent episades of bullous eruption. The bullous eruption had been subsided under the treatment with oral penicillin administration. The histopathological features of the bullous lesion on his abdomen revealed the features of epidermolytic hyperkeratosis.

4.Spontaneous Disappearance of Intracranial Arteriovenous Malformation.
Journal of Korean Neurosurgical Society 1990;19(4):581-585
The authors report a case in which a cerebral arteriovenous malformation(AVM'S) disappeared completely and spontaneously within 7 years without bleeding episodes or surgical intervention. During the interval, he has been completely asymptomatic and had received no treatment except anticonvulsant medication for 6 months. There was no more epilepsy and mild muscular atrophy in the right lower extremity. A similar case has previously been described and is discussed briefly along with other cases of complete AVM'S regression.

To observe the possibility of human visceral larva migrans due to eating of raw liver of domestic animals, especially of cattle, and also to serve as a good reference for adequate sanitary measures, the investigation survey was carried out from May 1975 to May 1976. From the subjects of a l,048 inhabitants (male 558, female 490) in five localities including two Provinces and three different cities, food habit was studied by questionnaire mannual. Larvae isolated from liver tissues of cattle, and pig were identified. Experimental observation on the chicken and mice infected with Toxocara canis was undertaken to draw a assumption of possibility inducing human visceral larva migrans. The results obtained from the present study are summarized. A part of Korean people has the habit to eat the livers of cattle, fowl, pig and dog raw. Eating rate of raw beef liver was 37.8 percent out of l,048 inhabitants, and its rate was higher markedly in male(57.7 percent) than in female (15. 1 percent), and the highest rate among the group of 31-40 years old. Eating rate of raw liver of fowl was 5.9 percent, pig 5.3 percent, and dog 2.5 percent. Larva recovery rate from beef liver was 11.8 percent out of 195 samples and 72.0 percent of total detected 1arvae were identified as Toxocara(=Neoascaris) vitulorum. From pig liver, larvae of nematoda were found in 6.4 percent out of 109 samples but no larva was detected from 120 fowl livers. Larvae detected from one-half of tissues and organs of infected chicken with about 2,000 Toxocara canis eggs were 8-245 in number, and 85-100 percent of recovered larvae were from their 1iver tissues. Toxocara canis larvae, 45, 31, 42 and 23 in number at 3rd, 14th, 25th and 55th day in one-half of the tissues and organs after infection respectively, were demonstrated from the mice infected with 500 larvae collected from infected chicken liver. Most of the larvae were recovered from the carcass of the mouse. It was approved the larvae isolated from chicken possess infectivity to the mice. Typical eosinophilic granulomatous change was not observed in the liver tissue of the infected chicken at 20th day after infection. As it summarized above, the liver of various domestic animals is the favorite tissue for migration of nematodes larvae. Therefore, the possibility of human visceral larva migrans may be induced due to eating of raw liver of domestic animals.

6.Supratentorial Intracerebral Neuroepithelial Cyst: Case Report.
Journal of Korean Neurosurgical Society 1990;19(7):1053-1057
The authers report a case of intracerebral extraventricular cyst of possible neuroectodermal origin, presenting as a right frontotemporoparietal mass lesion which has no communication with the subaracnhnoid space or ventricular system. A 4 months old male patinet recovered rapidly after partial removal of cystic wall, cystoventriculostomy and cystoperitoneal shunt. The pathogenesis and principles of diagnosis and surgical management of this rare lesion is discussed.

Journal of Korean Neurosurgical Society 1991;20(9):829-833
This case of a ruptured, infected intracranial aneurysm is reported. A 19-year-old female patient was transferred to our hospital dure to large intracerebral hematoma in the right posterior parietal area with the marked mass effect. Cerebral angiograms demonstrated, beyond the vascular streching due to the hematoma, a smal vascular mass situated onthe distal parietal branch of the right middle cerebral artery. She was operated on the 3rd day after admission; a small vascular mass, almost thrombosed, was discovered and totally removed after evacuation of the hematoma. Cardiac manifestation including the echocardiogram was negative. Cultures of the blood, hamatoma evacuated during craniotomy and intra-aneurysmal thrombi were also negative at all. Postoperative angiograms revealed no newly developed vascular mass and follow-up couse for 10 months has been uneventful. Different treatments of intracranial mytic aneurysms are finally reviewed and a therapeutic approach is discussed.

Young Il HA ; Hong Jae RIM ; Choong Hyun KIM
Journal of Korean Neurosurgical Society 1991;20(5):376-381
An unusual case of suprasellar chondroid chordoma in childhood is reported. The patient, a 14-year old boy, presented with total blindness of the left eye which was initially diagnosed as primary optic nerve atrophy. The frontotemporal craniotomy was performed and irradiated postoperatively. Intracranial chordomas in children are rare especially in chondroid varient of the classical chordoma. We reviewed the literatures and stressed this rare case in aspects of the treatment, prognosis and pathological characteristics.
