1.Stimulatory Effect of IL-10 on Antitumor Cytolytic Activity of Murine Spleen Cells.
Korean Journal of Immunology 1998;20(3):295-301
L-10 has been recognized as an irnmune suppressive cytokine which inhibits Ag-specific activation and proliferation of T cells. It also inhibits Ag presenting capacity of monocyte/macrophage and down-regulates monokine production. However it has also shown that IL-10 has stimulatory effect on immune effector cells in recent studies. This report shows that IL-10 has direct stimulatory effect on antitumor cytolytic activity suppressed by TGF-B. To assess the effect of IL-10 on cytolytic activity against tumor, spleen cells prepared from tumor-bearing mice were cultured with mitomycin C-treated MOPC-315 cells in the presence of IL-10. Unexpectedly, IL-10 was able to reverse the cytolytic activity suppressed with TGF-B. The stimulatory effect of IL-10 was dependent on the addition time of IL-10. At day 0, 4, those effects were shown higher than those of the other days. Also, the stimulatory effect of IL-10 showed specificity against MOPC-315 tumor cells. To elucidate the role of endogenous IL-10, TGF-B in MLTC cultures, anti-IL-10 and anti-TGF-B mAb were used. The inhibition of IL-10 release in MLTC cultures by using anti-IL-10 mAb resulted in the suppression of cytolytic activity against MOPC-315 tumor cells. Taken together, although IL- 10 has been recognized as a strong immunosuppressive cytokine derived of tumor cells, IL-10 showed the direct stimulatory effect on the antitumor cytolytic activity of spleen cells.

2.The Role of Various Osseous Genioplasty Combined with Orthoganthic Surgery.
Journal of the Korean Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons 1999;26(4):556-562
Although orthognathic surgery has been performed at the maxilla and the mandibular ramus to obtain a normal functional occulsion and aesthetic improvement of the face, deformities of the chin and disproportion of the soft tissue have been left. Mandibular set-back or advancement usually leaves soft tissue redundancy or deficiency along with its displacement. We have combined genioplasty with orthognathic surgery after intermaxillary fixation through a separate incision to get aesthetic improvement in the chin area in 28 patients. The authors obtained the aesthetic profile of the chin and lower lip according to various soft tissue analysis as follows: 1) The depth of the mentolabial fold 2) The distance from the E-line to labrale inferius (LI) 3) N-ANS/ANS-Me The soft tissue disproportion and residual deformities which were not usually corrected by the orthognathic surgery alone could be improved by combining it with genioplasty.

3.Two Cases of Epidermolysis Bullosa Simplex.
Korean Journal of Dermatology 1978;16(6):507-511
Epidermolysis Bullosa Simplex is characterized by autosomal dominant rnheritance, and chronic noninflammatory conditions in which the clinical lesions, erosion, blisters usually result from relatively minor mechanical trauma to the skin, especially joints of hands, elbows, knees, and feet and other sites subject to repeated trauma The lesiona are present or appeared after a few days after birth or shortly after especialy of the lower legs or feet, and not involved at naiIs or mucous membranes. Though infection is not common on the feet or hands, even infected lesions generally heal with out scarring. 2 cases of Epidermolysis bullosa simplex were experienced, the one was 5 month old male baby who had fresh vesiculobullous, hemorrhagic bulla, crusts, exfoliation, no nail dystrophy, since a few days after birth. The another was 5 month old female baby, who had pea sized tense bulla, and exfoliations on the hands and feet. Diagnosis confirmed by clinical features and histological findings. Literature were reviewed in comparison with mechanobulIous disease.

5.Two Cases of Sex-linked Ichthyosis Improved by an Oral Aromatic Retinoid (Ro 10 - 9359).
Korean Journal of Dermatology 1982;20(3):431-436
We present the therapeutic effects of an aromatic retinoid (Ro 10-9359) in two cases of sex-linked ichthyosis. Case 1, Uncle of Case 2, was a 24-year-old male who had had dark brown scales on the trunk and upper extremities for 15 years. Case 2 was a 10-year-old boy who had had dirty brown scales on the trunk and lower extremities since 3 years of age. The diagnosis of sex-linked ichthyosis was made by characteristic scales and histopathologic findings. Initially, both patients received an oral aromatic retinoid (Ro 10-9359) with a daily dose of 1.5mg/kg body weight for the first two weeks. Thereafter the drug was tapered gradually to the dose of 0.5mg/kg body weight according to the therapeutic response. There was near complete clearing of the skin lesions in both patients after 10 weeks treatment. Side effects were of mild intensity and included dryness of mouth and nose, chelitis, paronychia and arthralgia of knee joint.

6.The Basic Studies on the Application of Galectin - 3 as a Target Protein for Delivering Anticancer Agents.
Korean Journal of Immunology 1997;19(1):83-90
Gastric cancer cells express large amounts of galectin-3 on the cell surface. This fact may provide the possibility to use galectin-3 protein as a surface target for delivering cytotoxic anticancer agents. To investigate the possibility of application of galectin-3 protein as a target protein in delivering cytotoxic anticancer agents, we synthesized doxorubicin immunoconjugate by using maleimidocaproic acid and conjugated doxorubicin immunoconjugate to anti-galectin-3 mAb. The anticancer effect of immunotoxin was assayed on NIH3T3, AGS and KATO III cell lines. The anticancer effect of immunotoxin on AGS cell line is highest and that of KATO III is higher than that of NIH3T3. This results relate to that of flow cytometry analysis previously shown and indicate that galectin-3 protein can be used as a target protein on the surface of gastric cancer cell for delivering cytotoxic anticancer agents.

8.A Case fo Familial Benign Chronic pemphigus.
Korean Journal of Dermatology 1980;18(5):433-437
Familial benign chronic pemphigus is characterized by a recurrent eruption of plaques of closely grouped vesicles that most frequently occurs about the neck, axilla and groin, singly or in combination with similar lesions in the intertriginous area. A 27-year-old male has had recurrent vesicles, fissures, maceration and crust formation in inguinal and perianal area for 3 yeare. The lesion manifested circinated form of vesicles, fissured and scaly patches over the inguinal, scrotal and perianal area. There were actively inflammatory border, resembling tinea cruris in the inguinal area. Authors diagnosed with clinical symptoms, laboratory examinations, and light and electron microscopic examination.

10.Clinical Analysis of Bone and Joint Tuberculosis
The Journal of the Korean Orthopaedic Association 1977;12(1):41-45
Prevalent is the concept that tuberculosis has completely been put under control and the actual number of the patients is decreasing. This study has been undertaken in part to give substantial evidence to this general idea about the tuberculosis. Total 921 patients with skeletal tuberculous lesions, selected out of all the patients consulted to the department of orthopedic surgery during the 13 consecutive years from Jaunary of 1963 to December of 1975, were subjected to this analysis. 1. Overall incidence of patients with skeletal tuberculosis was 4.8% of all the patients visited during the 13 years. 2. Of 921 patients, males were 591 and females 330, which showed the men were affected 1.8 times more than women. 3. More than half of them (51,5%) occurred under the age of 19 years. 4. Three anatomical sites were predisposed to this affection; 58.5% in spine, 10.5% in hip, and 11.6% in knee. 5. With the above study it can be safely be said that the actual number and also the incidence of skeletal tuberculosis has not shown any trend of decline and accordingly its management should be more regulated and thorough.
