OBJECTIVETo observe the effect of scalp-acupuncture drawing method (SADM) on recovering motor function in hemiplegic patients following cerebral thrombosis at convalescent period.
METHODSAdopting randomized, single-blinded, controlled method, 93 patients suffering from hemiplegia following cerebral thrombosis were randomly assigned to 3 groups, 31 in each group. All patients were treated based on neurological routine therapy, those in the treated group and the control group I were treated respectively with SADM and scalp-acupuncture twirling method (SATM) additionally, but for those in the control group II, no additional treatment was given. The treatment course for all was 4 weeks.
RESULTSBefore treatment, there were insignificant difference among 3 groups in the score of neural motor function deficits (NFDS) of limbs and activity of daily life (ADL) score (P > 0.05). After being treated for 4 weeks, the NFDS was significantly lower and in the control group II (P < 0.01, P < 0.05) and the change of the scores in the treated group was more than that in the control group I (P < 0.05).
CONCLUSIONSADM was superior to scalp-acupuncture twisting prove the ADL score and motor function of hemiplegia patients following cerebral thrombosis in the convalescent stage.

Studies on the variation of amylase, lipase and lrotease activity of Whitmania pigra in 0-6 months old using 3, 5-dinitro- salicylic acid colorimetry, right-nitrophenyl palmitate ester (ρ-NPP) colorimetry and folin-phenol method. The results showed that pro- tease activity remained low before 1.5 months old and with the highest activity in 2 months old, but after showing a small peak in 4 months, alkaline protease rapid declined. Amylase was low at born, then gradually increased the activity of the highest in 2.5 months old. Lipase with a strong vitality at birth, then 1 month with minimum and 2 months peaked, but appeared a small peak in 4 months old. In summary, only lipase exhibits strong activity at birth, lipase with the strongest activity in the digestive tract during develop- ment. Protease, lipase and amylase with the strongest activity at 2-3 months old, but were decreased after 4 months old.

Their structures were elucidated using a combination of 1D and 2D NMR techniques (COSY, HMQC, and HMBC)and HR-ESI-MS analyses. Compounds 2-7 were isolated from this plant for the first time.

China Journal of Chinese Materia Medica 2005;30(23):1817-1820
OBJECTIVETo study the oxygen consumption rate and suffocation point of Whitmania pigra.
METHODUsing the method of respiratory chamber, the oxygen consumption rate, oxygen consumption volume and suffocation point were obtained.
RESULTThe oxygen consumption rate(OCR) ranged from 0.049 to 0.094 mg x g(-1) x h(-1), the oxygen consumption volume(OCV) from 0.44 to 0.67 mg x p(-1) x h(-1), and suffocation point(SP) from 0.9 to 1.51 mg x L(-1), when the average weight of W. pigra was 10 g and the water temperature varied from 15 to 35 degrees C. OCR ranged from 0.044 to 0.058 mg x g(-1) x h(-1), OCV from 0.19 to 0.77 mg x p(-1) x h(-1) and SP from 1.4 to 1.57 mg x l(-1) when water temperature was 20 degrees C.
CONCLUSIONOCR rose when the water temperature and weight increased, but SP was justly opposite. The weight was negatively correlated with OCR and positively with OCV. OCR had little difference from day to night.

Objective To investigate the feasibility of ~1H-MR spectroscopy(~1H-MRS)imaging to quantitatively detect fatty liver. Methods Twenty patients with fatty liver and 11 healthy volunteers underwent plain CT scan, conventional MR imaging and ~1H-MRS analysis. The blood lipid and liver function were tested on the same day as the MR examination.~1H-MRS sequence measured the peaks of H_2O and lipid, and the areas under the peaks. The relative contents of the lipid compound were calculated, and compared with the results of CT scan and liver function tests. Results The CT values of the normal group and the fatty liver group were(59?9)HU and(24?11)HU respectively. On ~1H-MRS a protruding high H_2O peak and a flat low lipid peak were observed in the normal group, while the protruding high H_2O peak and a high lipid peak appeared in the fatty liver group. The values of lipid peak in the normal group and the fatty liver group were(0.05?0.01)?10~5,(0.70?0.24)?10~5 respectively(t=4.32,P0.05),the areas under the lipid peak were(1.36?0.73)?10~9、(2.35?1.15)?10~9 respectively(t=5.21,P0.05).Conclusion ~1 H-MRS imaging is feasible to quantitatively detect liver fat and is a non-invasive method for detecting early fatty liver.

Objective To evaluate the efficacy and safety of administration of intranasal dexmedetomidine for preoperative sedation in the pediatric patients with congenital heart disease. Methods Sixty pediatric patients of both sexes, aged 2-5 yr,weighing 10-30 kg,of ASA physical status Ⅱ or Ⅲ (NYHA Ⅰ-Ⅲ),scheduled for elective radical operation for congenital heart disease under general anesthesia, were randomly divided into 2groups (n =30 each) using a random number table:dexmedetomidine administered intranasally group (group IN) and dexmedetomidine administered intravenously group (group Ⅳ).After admission to a room for preoperative preparation, dexmedetomidine 2μg/kg was administered intranasally in group IN and dexmedetomidine 0.5 μg/kg (in 15,ml normal saline) was injected intravenously over 20 min in group Ⅳ.After admission to the operating room at 20 min after administration, oxygen was inhaled through a face mask and induction of anesthesia was performed. The patient acceptance of modes of administration, sedation degree at 20 min after administration, score of mood state of the children when they were separated from their parents, and degree of patient acceptance of oxygen inhalation via a face mask were recorded.Bradycardia, hypotension, hypertension and hyoxemia were recorded from administration to induction of anesthesia. Results Compared with IN group, the rate of patient acceptance of modes of administration was significantly decreased, and no significant changes were found in sedation degree at 20 min after administration, score of mood state of the children when they were separated from their parents, and degree of patient acceptance of oxygen inhalation via a face mask in group Ⅳ.No adverse reactions such as bradycardia, hypotension, hypertension or hyoxemia developed from administration to induction of anesthesia in the two groups. Conclusion Dexmedetomidine 2μg/kg administered intranasally can be safely and effectively used for preoperative sedation in the pediatric patients with congenital heart disease.
