Aim To investigate the protective effect of erythropoietin(EPO )on neonatal rats'retinal neuronal cells injured by glutamic acid.Methods Retinal neuron cells were cultured and subjected to glutamic acid.The concentration of glutamic acid model was decided by observing the changes of neuronal cells with the releasing quantity of LDH and transmission electron microscope.Then cultured cells were divided into N group(normalcontral),G group(glutamic acid),EG group(EPO and glutamic acid),AG group(AG490 and glutamic acid),and AEG group(AG490,EPO and glutamic acid).MTT assay was applied to detect cell viability in five groups.The expression of Bax was detected with Western blot.Results The changes of mitochondrion and chromatin occurred in 50 ?mol?L-1 group and striking changes occurred in 100 ?mol?L-1 group with transmission electron microscope.There was apparent damage in 20?mol?L-1 group by the releasing quantity of LDH.MTT assay indicated the cell viability of EG group was higher than that of G,AG and AEG group,while,G group cell viability was higher than that of AG and AEG group.The expression of Bax in AG and AEG group was higher than that in G group. And that in G group was higher than in EG group.Conclusions EPO pretreatment can effectively protect the neuronal cells from injuries induced by glutamic acid.Down regulation of Bax and decrease of apoptosis through Jak2 passageway may be the mechanism of protection.

Objective To explore the relationship between first trimester pregnancy infection and congenital malformation in the cardiovascular system.Methods A hospital-based study was conducted from June 2014 to June 2016.Totally 1618 mothers of infants with cardiovascular system malformation and normal infants were interviewed through a face-to-face questionnaire survey.A propensity score-matched study was conducted to investigate the association between first trimester pregnancy infection and congenital malformation in the cardiovascular system.Results All important covariates were balanced after matching.First trimester pregnancy infection increased the risk of congenital malformation in the cardiovascular system,single congenital malformation in the cardiovascular system and multi-congenital malformation in the cardiovascular system.After matched,the OR values were 1.65 (95％ CI:1.21-2.24;P=0.001),1.50 (95％ CI:1.02 2.20;P=0.037),and 1.90 (95％ CI:1.18-3.06;P=0.008),respectively.Conclusion First trimester pregnancy infection increases the risk of congenital malformation in the cardiovascular system.Avoiding infectious diseases during the first trimester in pregnancy is important in decreasing the incidence of congenital malformation in the cardiovascular system.

Objective To explore the relationship of four kinds of lifestyle factors,namely,prenatal passive smoking,hair dyeing or perming,exposure to noise,living in a house renovated in the past one year,with congenital heart disease.Methods A hospital-based case-control study was conducted.Totally 270 mothers in the case group and 1633 mothers in the control group were interviewed through a face-to-face questionnaire survey.A generalized linear model was employed to investigate the association between congenital heart disease and prenatal lifestyle factors.Results Both in Model 1 and Model 2,prenatal hair dyeing or perming had no association with congenital heart disease.On the other hand,prenatal passive smoking,exposure to noise and living in a house renovated in the past one year all increased the risk of congenital heart disease.After adjustment for all confounders,the OR values were 1.771 (95％ CI:1.079-2.909),2.079 (95％ CI:1.310-3.298),and 2.494 (95％ CI:1.511-4.116),respectively.Conclusion Prenatal passive smoking,exposure to noise and living in a house renovated in the past one year are the risk factors for congenital heart disease.It is very important to avoid such factors during pre-pregnancy and pregnancy.

Objective To evaluate the value of heart rate variability (HRV ) and sympathetic skin response (SSR) in differential diagnosis of Parkinson's disease (PD) .Methods We selected 36 PD ,17 essential tremor (ET) and 59 Parkinsonism-Plus (PD-plus) patients diagnosed in our department .We recorded HRV during the period of quiet breath ,deep breath and Vasaval as well as SSR incubation period of the upper limbs and lower limbs . Results ① During the period of quiet breath ,HRV decreased significantly in PD group compared with that in ET group (P< 0 .05) ,and abnormality rate of HRV in PD group was higher than that in ET group .HRV did not significantly differ between PD and PD-plus .HRV did not significantly differ among the three groups during the period of deep breath and Vasaval .② SSR incubation period showed no significant difference among PD ,PD-plus and ET groups .③ The specificity and sensibility of HRV in PD and PD-plus differential diagnosis were 22 .8% and 82 .6% , while for PD and ET differential diagnosis the values were 66 .9% and 82 .6% . The specificity and sensibility of SSR in PD and PD-plus differential diagnosis were 39 .0% and 52 .6% , 29 .4% and 52 .6% , respectively ,for PD and ET differential diagnosis .Conclusion Compared with those in ET patients ,HRV in PD patients decreases and HRV abnormality rate increases .HRV is of great value in differential diagnosis of PD and ET but not in differential diagnosis of PD and PD-plus .Determining SSR incubation period does not have much value in differential diagnosis of PD ,PD-plus and ET .

Objective To investigate the effect of folic acid supplementation in childbearing aged women during pregnancy on the birth weight of newborns in Shaanxi province.Methods A questionnaire survey was conducted among the childbearing aged women selected through multistage stratified random sampling in Shaanxi during 2010-2013,all of these childbearing aged women were in pregnancy or had definite pregnancy outcomes.The birth weight of newborns and folic acid supplementation during pregnancy were used as the dependent variables and independent variables respectively in multiple linear regression model and quantile regression model and confounding factors were controlled.Results Multiple linear regression analysis showed that the birth weight of newborns whose mothers had folic acid supplementation during pregnancy were significantly higher than those whose mothers had no folic acid supplementation during pregnancy,an average increase of 29.56 g (B=29.56,t=4.69 and P＜0.01).Quantile regression analysis showed from very low to higher percentiles (q=0-0.55,q=0.65,q=0.75-0.80),the birth weights of newborns whose mothers supplemented folic acid were higher than those whose mother did not supplement folic acid,the difference was significant,but the increase varied.As the increase of the percentiles of birth weight,the body weight increase declined gradually in those whose mothers had folic acid supplementation compared with those whose mothers had no folic acid supplementation.Conclusion Folic acid supplementation during pregnancy can increase the birth weight of newborns,the influence was greater in newborns with lower body weight than in newborns with higher body weight.

Objective To explore the association between exposure to ambient air pollution during pregnancy and congenital heart disease so as to provide evidence for primary prevention of congenital heart disease.Methods Epidemiologic studies on ambient air pollution and congenital heart diseases were reviewed.Summary risk estimates were calculated at high versus low exposure levels and risk per-unit-increase in continuous pollutant concentration.Meta-analysis was conducted with Stata 12.0 software.Results A total of 20 articles in English were qualified for inclusion.Results from Meta-analysis showed that CO exposures were related to the increase on the risk of tetralogy of fallot (high versus low exposure level OR=1.22,95％CI:1.03-1.44),while the exposures to NO2 were related to the increase on risk of coarctation of aorta (per 10 mm3/m3 OR=1.01,95％CI:1.01-1.20).Exposures to O3 were related to the increase on risk of atrial septal defect (per 10 mm3/m3 OR=1.14,95％CI:1.03-1.26),and PM10 exposures were related to the increase on risk of atrial septal defect (per 10 μg/m3 OR=1.10,95％CI:1.03-1.19).In addition,there were inverse associations between CO and atrial septal defect and between PM10 and ventricular septal defect.Conclusion Exposures to CO,NO2,O3,PM10 during pregnancy seemed to be associated with congenital heart diseases.

Objective To explore the ethnic differences on nutritional status of children under three years old,in the western areas of China and to indentify the affecting factors.Methods 14 072children under the age of three years and their mothers were recruited,using the proportion population sampling method in 45 counties in the western areas of China.Height and weight were used as the measurement on nutrition of children.Results Height and weight of children with Han,Uyghur,Tibetan and Zhuang ethnicities were all lower than the WHO standards and with differences on height and weight among them.There were also ethnic differences on the status of malnutrition.Prevalence rates of stunting were 14.7％,20.3％,26.9％ and 26.5％ for Han,Uyghur,Tibetan and Zhuang ethnicities,respectively.Prevalence rates of underweight were 6.1％,10.7％,6.8％ and 15.5％ among the Han,Uyghur,Tibetan and Zhuang ethnicities,respectively.The prevalence rates of wasting were 4.2％,5.3％,2.9％,8.9％,and of under nutrition were 19.2％,25.5％,30.3％ and 36.5％ for the Han,the Uyghur,the Tibetan and the Zhuang ethnicities,respectively.When factors as family size,years of schooling of parents,family numbers,sex,age (months),mother' s height and weight,ways of feeding and sources of family income etc.were adjusted,children with Uyghur,Tibetan,Zhuang and other ethnicities were still presented more malnutrition than the children with Han ethnicity.Conclusion There were differences on malnutrition status of children under the age of three years among the studies on different ethnicities.Undemutrition was less than nutritional status,seen in children of the Han nationality than other minority ethnicites.Ethnicity seemed to be related to differences in the nutritional status of children in western China while children of the Han nationality would be better than other minorities on nutritional status if they were in same living conditionals.

OBJECTIVETo compare the distribution of (CAG)n and (GGN)n repeats polymorphisms of androgen receptor (AR) gene between Hui and Han ethnic Chinese from Ningxia.

METHODSGenotypes of above repeats were determined with DNA sequencing method.

RESULTSThe distribution of (GGN)n repeats was significantly different between the two ethnic groups (P< 0.01), though no such difference was detected with (CAG)n repeats (P> 0.05). Particularly, Han Chinese women carrying 23 GGN repeats were significantly fewer (48.4%) than Hui women (64.7%, P=0.01).

CONCLUSIONThe distribution of GGN repeat is significantly differently among Hui and Han Chinese ethnics from Ningxia.

Objective To explore the effect of maternal animal sourced food intake during pregnancy on neonate birth weight and provide scientific basis for guiding the reasonable diet intake in pregnant women and increasing neonate birth weight.Methods Data were derived from a cross-sectional project of "the prevalence and risk factors of birth defects in Shaanxi province",which were conducted in 30 counties in Shaanxi province from July to November in 2013.A stratified multistage random sampling method was used to select women who were pregnant between January 2010 and December 2013 for a random semi-quantitative food frequency questionnaire survey to collect the data on the frequency and amount of food consumption on animal protein sources and the data of newborns.Children aged 0-1 years and their mothers were selected as the study subjects.The generalized linear model was used to analyze the relationship between the neonate birth weight and maternal animal sourced food intake during pregnancy,and by using neonate birth weight as dependent variable,food intake frequency as independent variable,three adjustment models were established for stratified analysis.Results Totally 11 459 participants were involved in this study.The average birth weight of newborn was (3 279.9 ± 454.6) g,the average weekly intake of animal sourced foods was 4.00 times for egg,1.50 times for meat,3.00 times for dairy foods,0.50 times for fish and 5.00 times for overall animal sourced foods in pregnant women.Without stratification,three models shown that meat and overall animal sourced food intake had effects on neonate birth weight.After adjustment for gestational weeks,maternal age,social and demographic factors and others,meat intake increased by 1 time a week,the increase of neonate birth weight was about 5.26 (95％ CI:1.32-9.20) g,and the overall animal food increased by 1 times a week,the average neonate birth weight increased by 3.24 (95％ CI:1.09-5.39) g.Stratified analysis showed that meat and overall animal sourced food always had more influences on baby girls and those living in rural area.In the region classification,the overall animal sourced food intake had more influences on women living in northern area and Guanzhong area of Shaanxi,and meat intake had greater influence on women living in southern Shaanxi.And the influences were positive,the more animal sourced foods were taken,the greater the birth weight increased.Conclusion Animal sourced food intake during pregnancy would benefit the increase of neonate birth weight.It suggests that pregnant women should pay more attention to the intake of animal sourced food.

Objective To understand the prevalence of prenatal supplementations of iron, iron-containing multi-micronutrients (IMMN) and antianemic Chinese patent medicines (ACPM) and associated factors in women in Shaanxi province. Methods A sample of 28367 childbearing-age women who gave birth during 2010-2013 and had specific information of the prenatal nutrients supplementation were recruited using stratified multistage cluster random sampling in Shaanxi province. The information about their basic characteristics and prenatal supplementation of nutrients were collected by a questionnaire survey. Descriptive analysis method was used to analyze the intake rate of iron, IMMN and ACPM during each period of pregnancy, and logistic regression model was used to identify associated factors. Results The overall prevalence of prenatal iron, IMMN and ACPM supplementation was low (28.99%), and the intake rate of iron was the lowest (5.33%). The prevalence of prenatal supplementation of iron, IMMN and ACPM were lower before pregnancy and in the first trimester than in the second and third trimester. The intake rates for consecutive 2 periods were very low (all were lower than 2.00%). The intake rates of iron, IMMN and ACPM significantly increased year by year. Women living in central Shaanxi had relatively high intake rates of iron (7.22%) and IMMN (16.55%), and women in southern Shaanxi had relatively high intake rate of ACPM (18.50%). The results of logistic regression analysis showed that higher educational level(OR=1.920, 95%CI: 1.617-2.279), antenatal care times≥6 (OR=1.832, 95%CI: 1.604-2.091), etc. were the positive factors for iron intake, and these positive factors were similar to those for IMMN intake. Additionally, rural residence was the negative factor for IMMN intake (compared with urban residence, OR=0.872, 95%CI:0.788-0.966). Conversely, higher educational level (OR=0.855, 95%CI:0.746-0.979), higher household income (OR=0.864, 95%CI: 0.796-0.938) were negative factors for ACPM intake, and rural residence was its positive factor (OR=1.285, 95% CI: 1.141-1.447). Conclusions The prevalence of prenatal supplementation of iron, IMMN and ACPM were low in women in Shaanxi, especially the intake rate of iron was the lowest. The prophylactic iron supplementation before pregnancy or in the first trimester was rare. Measures should be taken to improve the prenatal supplementation of iron in Shaanxi and to standardize the clinical use of ACPM.
