Intraosseous ganglion is an uncommon benign tumor thought to be caused by an intramedullary metaplastic event. We recently experienced a case of intraosseous ganglion that occurred on the femoral head of a 65-year old man who complained of intermittent hip pain. Complete evaluation including bone scan, CT, MRI was done. His pain disappeared after curettage and bone graft was done on the lesion.

The Graf stabilization has been introduced in treating lumbar spinal disorder associated with posterior instability. This study reviewed some problems of the Graf instrumentation as a soft stabilizer. The purpose of this study is to analyse the problems of the soft stabilization in spinal instability. We reviewed 145 cases which were operative treatment using the Graf instrument for lumbar spinal disorder associated with posterior instability at our department from May, 1991 to Dec, 1995. The mean follow up periods was 29 months ranging from 24 months to 6 years 8 months. Of the 145 cases, 22 cases were showed the problem. The diagnostic method were simple x-ray, flexion-extension lateral stress view and CT scan. Results were as follows : Adjacent segmental instability was 10 cases(6.9%), disc space narrowing was 8 cases(5.5%), screw loosening was 3 cases(2.1%) and breakage of the Graf band was 1 case(0.6%). The problems of the soft stabilization were adjacent segmental instability, disc space narrowing, screw loosening, and breakage of the Graf band. But the rate of adjacent segmental instability and disc space narrowing was lower than other lumbar spinal instrumentation.

We are reporting a case of 25-year-old male patient with elastosis perforance serpiginosa who showed multipte serpiginous plaques on his neck. Some of the lesions showed hypopigmented, hard, scar-tissue like plaques in the central part. Histologic examination showed hyperplasia and transepidermal elimination of elastic tissue. By electron microscopy, also, we could prove that the elastic fibers were increased in the dermis.

Plexiform neurofibroma is considered a pathognomic of Von Recklinghousen's disease, which involves the deep and large nerve trunk. These are large irregular nerve fascicles which result from an increase in endoneural matrix within individual nerve facicles, without an increased number of nerve fibers. We experenced a case of Von Recklinghausen's disease in a 24 year-old male who had variable cutaneous skeletal, and CNS lesions. He presented multiple neurofibromas, cafe-au-lait spots, and axillary freckles as common cutaneous lesions of NF-I and giant pigmentation, sacral hypertrichosis, and plexiform neurofibroma as unusual cutaneous lesions. Also he had a scoliosis, bowing deformity of the humerous and wedging deformity of the body of the 5th cervical spine as a skeletal manifestation and cortical calcification in the occipital area as a CNS manifestation.

Lovastatin, a competitive inhibitor of the rate limiting enzyme in cholesterol biosynthesis was administered to 34 patients with primary hypertlipidemia, 20 mg once daily with the evening meal. Patients experienced mean total and LDL cholesterol reductions of 30.9% and 34.0% respectively. HDL cholesterol level was significantly increased by 15.4% and plasma triglyceride level was decreased by 11.2%. maximal hypocholesterolemic effects were evident at 8 weeks, after which the effects were stable. Adverse effects were noted in 2 patients who had mild gastrointestinal symptoms, that subsided after discontinuing the drug. We concluded that lovastatin is a well tolerated and effective agent for the treatment of primary hyperlipidemia.

We evaluated prospectively the effect of capsular opening larger than the optic diameter of intraocular lens(IOL) on visual outcome, change of refrectory power and postoperative complication in cataract surgery. Cataract surgery was performed to 55 patients using 5.75mm temporal corneal incision, continuous curvilinear capsulorhexis(CCC), phacoemulsification, implantation of polymethylmethacrylate(PMMA) posterior chamber IOL with 5.5mm of optic and 12.5mm of total length into the capsular bag, and one shoelace suture. The size of CC was 6.5mm in diameter, slightly larger than that of IOL optics. Uncorrected visual acuity 20/40 or better was obtained in 80% of eyes one day after operation. The change of sperical equivalent from postoperative one day to one week, one week to two months and two months to four months was -0.22+/-0.59(average+/-S.D.) diopters, +0.07+/-0.37 diopters and -0.01+/-0.13 diopters in average respectively. There was no decentration or tilt of IOL, posterior capsular opacity, and contraction of capsular opening smaller than 5mm inducing visual disturbance at postoperative 4 months. In conclusion, the technique of using CCC larger than the IOL optic can be a safe and useful in patients with posterior segment disease.
