Intraosseous ganglion is a benign cystic lesion. It is composed of fibrous tissue with mucoid changes located in the subchondral bone adjacent to a joint. Intraosseous ganglion has been reported in various skeletal sites and most commonly in the lower end of the tibia and femur. However reports of intraosseous ganglion of the glenoid are rare, with only 14 cases in the literature. We repot 2 cases of intraosseous ganglion of the glenoid with literature reviews.

A prospective study of vitamin B6, B12, folate, and homocysteine levels was carried out in 7 kidney transplant(KT) recipients. The first sample for the basal level was drawn on the morning of the KT day before the start of cyclosporine injection. Thereafter, serial blood samples were taken every day until the serum creatinine level decreased below 1.5 mg/dl and then every 2 or 3days until discharge. The serum creatinine level decreased to below 1.5 mg/dl within 3days except for cases 4 and 6. The homocysteine levels decreased markedly in synchronisation with serum creatinine levels increased during the first 7days and then declined together with serum creatinine levels but went up again after a few days. The levels of B6, and vitamin B12 do not continue to decrease after the levels of serum creatinine have decreased to 1.5mg/dl, while homocysteine levels go up progressively. In conclusion, contrary to our expectation, the level of homocysteine rebounds a few days after KT following a transient decline. A deficiency of folic acid, vitamin B6 and vitamin B12 does not seem to cause hyperhomocysteinemia in KT recipients. It is necessary to pay attention to hyperhomocysteinemia in KT recipients, especially when the recipients have an atherosclerosis-related complication.

The changes of electroencephalogram(EEG) in patients with dementia are most commonly studied by analyzing power or magnitude in certain traditionally defined frequency bands. However because of the absence of on identified metric which quantifies the complex amount of information, there are many limitations in using such a linear method. According to chaos theory, irregular signals of EEG cal also result from low dimensional deterministic chaos. Chaotic nonlinear dynamics in the EEG can be studied by calculating the correlation dimension. The authors have analyzed EEG epochs from three patients with dementia of Alzheimer type and three matched control subject. The result showed that patients with dementia of Alzheimer type had significantly lower correlation dimension than non-demented controls on 12 channels. Topographic analysis showed that the correlation dimensions were significantly lower in patients with Alzheimer's disease on frontal, temporal, central, and occipital head regions. These results show that brains of patients with dementia with dementia of Alzheimer type have a decreased complexity of electrophysiological behavior. We conclude that the nonlinear analysis such as calculating correlation dimension can be a promising tool for detecting changes in the complexity of brain dynamics.

This study was performed to evaluate the clinical significance of SCC as a tumor marker in patient with squamous cell carcinoma of the cervix. We measured the serum levels of SCC by radioimmunoassay in patient with invasive squamous cell carcinoma of cervix to determine the prognostic value, correlation with the presence of lymph node metastasis, response to treatment, and those value in the early detection of recurrence after treatment. The result was: 1) In 117 of 174 patients with cervical cancer, the pretreatment positive rate of SCC was 47.0%(57/117). In each stage, the stage Ia was 25.0%, Ib 26.3%, IIa 56.0%, 62.6%, III 57.1%, IV 100%, and the recurrent case was 37.5%. 2) In 79 of 174 patients with cervical cancer, the pretreatment positive rate of SCC was 44,0%(30/69) in no evidence of malignancy patients, but 60.0%(6/10) in recurrent or permanent patients(p>0.05), 3) In 133 of 174 patients with cervical cancer, the posttreatment positive rate of SCC was 2.6%(3/117) in no evidence of malignancy patients, but 50.0%(8/16) in recurrent or permanent patients(p<0.05). 4) In 48 patients of 174 with cervical cancer who underwent radical hystrectomy, the positive rate of SCC was 71.4%(5/7) in pelvic lymph node positive patients but 19,5%(8/41) in pelvic lymph node negative patients(p<0.05). We concluded that the pretreatment SCC level was not effective as a prognostic value, but well correlated with pelvic lymph node metastasis, and serial measurements of serum levels of SCC provided a reliable clue for early detection of recurrence or progression of disease, so it may be useful for monitoring cervical carcinoma patient.

BACKGROUND: Headache is a common symptom. It has not proved useful methods that the physician evaluated the alert patient who had headache. It needs the presence of predictors of intracranial pathology(ICP) which serves as influential factors in the indication of evaluation and hospitalization of patients. METHOD: So, in order to identify such factors, patient records were retrospectively analysed. 168 patients with the chief complaint of headache presented to the Emergency Department of Chonnam University Hospital during the period from January 1, 1995 to December 31, 1997. All were in an alert mental state and had no evidence of trauma and intoxication. RESULTS: 14 cases(8.3% revealed ICP. 41 cases(24.4% revealed systemic disease. The remainder of cases were divided among unclassified headaches(61 cases, 36.3%, tension headaches(30 cases, 17.9%, and migraine(22 cases, 13.1%. Comparison of ICP-positive and ICP-positive cases revealed that ICP-Positive Patients could be categorized by the following findings: (1) Presence of the focal sign through neurological examination, (2) age greater than 55 years, (3) presence of associated symptoms, (4) acute headache. These four manifestations were proven to be statistically significant as predictors of ICP. CONCLUSION: Although the positive predictive value of the above criteria is not perfect for the prediction of ICP, they are worthy of clinical consideration in alert patients presenting with headache.
