The authors have recently treated a case of intraepithelial epithelioma(Bowen's disease) of the cornea and conjunctiva. This 66 year old male had a gray whitish elevated smooth mass on the lateral area of the corneal limbus and bulbar conjunctiva. Simple surgical excision was indicated since the lesion is benign but it recurred in 10 months. The recurrent lesion was excised again surgically. The histopathological features of previous specimen showed simple proliferation of one of the normal conjunctival and corneal epithelial cells in the epithelial layer, rather then an alteration in the chracter of the cells as the case in other malignant neoplasm. The second excised specimen showed marked proliferated epitheloid cells, keratosis, and chronic inflammatory cell infiltration but the lesion was limited to the epithelial layer without any evidence of invasion into the stroma.

PURPOSE: This study was to identify activities and related problems on health promotion of public health nurses, and to investigate basic data proposed to revise strategies of Health Promotion Nurse Specialists (HPNS). METHOD: The subjects of this study were 787 public health nurses sampled by clustering of the entire nation of Korea. Data were collected by focus group studies and cross-sectional survey during April to October of 1999. Results: 13.3% of public health nurses took responsibility for health promotion projects and 45.9% were involved in health promotion work with in home care or other routine activities. Also, the factors public health nurses perceived as barriers to implement activities for health promotion were time limitation, lack of ability for planning projects, insufficient time for specialties, inadequate understanding about health promotion project. CONCLUSION: According to the study, they need to have special education and further technical support. These results have important implications for the establishment for the role of Health Promotion Nurse Specialist. Also, in developing systems and curriculums for Health Promotion Nurse Specialist, the major factors described above need to be considered carefully.

PURPOSE: Regular cancer screening for workers can help prevent cancer or allow early treatment, and is thus beneficial in improving health, reducing costs, and increasing companies' productivity. However, there has been little research on cancer screening rates of workers and related factors. The purpose of this study was to identify cancer screening rates and relevant factors among manufacturing workers. METHODS: Using a questionnaire, data were collected from 335 workers aged over 40 years recruited from seven manufacturing companies. The collected information included cancer screenings (stomach, colorectal, breast, and cervical), attitude towards cancer screening, and demographic and job characteristics. RESULTS: 72.5% of workers received stomach cancer screening (SCS), and 43% received colorectal cancer screening (CRCS). Among 86 women, 68.6% received breast cancer screening and cervical cancer screening. The attitude towards cancer screening was 29.5+/-3.78. Workers aged over 51, married, and those working in mobile manufacturing were more likely to have undergone SCS. Workers aged over 51, married, those working in mobile manufacturing, those in workplaces with more than 1,001 employees, and those with more positive attitudes toward cancer screening were more likely to have undergone CRCS. Finally, attitude affected cervical cancer screening. CONCLUSION: Workers in small-sized workplaces had lower cancer screening rates. Thus, follow-up research should assess the health environment of workplaces and develop educational programs on cancer screening that reflect attitudes towards screening.

Kawasaki disease is generally diagnosed base on its clinical features. Sometimes unusual or atypical presentations make the diagnosis of Kawasaki disease difficult. We experienced an unusual case of Kawasaki disease presented with unilateral parotitis in a 23-month old girl. Despite of intravenous antibiotics treatment, fever and unilateral parotid swelling persisted. Skin rashes, conjunctival injections, and coronary abnormalities showed up on the 8th day of fever. After the intravenous immunoglobulin and salicylates treatment, all symptoms disappeared. Although unilateral parotitis is very unusual presentation of Kawasaki disease, in case of no response to antibiotics, Kawasaki disease should be included in the differential diagnosis.
